Like I said before the TV has a motion blur problem that cannot be changed or removed. I'm not lieing when I saw this, once you notice it it will be something you look for (human nature) and if your going to spend nearly a thousand dollars I would suggest upgrading to the E550 for 200 dollars more. Just my opinion. Everything was great with the E530 but the motion blur. tongue.gif

Thanks for the heads up glad I didn't bite just yet. I watch a ton of hockey so motion blur is no bueno....

Noticed this morning I had what I hope to be a stuck pixel on the set. I've been running the scroll feature, so hopefully it goes away. If it's still there when I get back from work I'll be calling Samsung. Anyone have an issue with a single stuck pixel?
Just got home from work. The scroll feature didn't fix the pixel, so I contacted Samsung and created a ticket. Trying to set up a technician to come out and fix it. Hopefully this wont be to much of an issue.
Lucky you, it might fix itself. I have a dead pixel which means... well its dead and can't be fixed. I called sears and they told me they don't cover it. Fortunately a dead pixel is a lot less noticeable. Dead and stuck pixels really happen with any TV, its just the way of things. Hopefully he can get yours unstuck, it may take up to a month or more for that dang pixel to get back to normal!!! mad.gif

I've read they are having technical problems with getting keyboards to work but IDK. As for the Iphone app, i can't say either because I have an android. On android we have an app called smart TV remote that works well only the youtube text input wont work obviously. Luckly there is some hope, the app just updated so as to remember your login info and paired devices, so sync your iphone to your youtube app and press the watch on youtube tv option. I find it even easier than searching with a keyboard anyways. wink.gif

Regarding the motion blur , I'm assuming the 550 rectifies the issue with the dual core processor and "cinema smooth" technology the 530 lacks? More than likely will be snagging the 550 Friday morning.
From what I know, Cinima Smooth only works during Video playback. But regardless of that there is no motion blur while watching normal TV or even movies. So no need to worry. biggrin.gif

just to give everyone an update with my set, i finally found time to give samsung a ring and as prompt as they are, they immediately scheduled a visit and the tech guy recommended that the main board needs to be replaced. im waiting 3-4 more days for my new mainboard to be installed, i didnt really want a new unit be brought in as that would require me again to do the long break in. hopefully the new mainboard fixes my problem though or else i would definitely ask them to give me a new set.

Happy to hear you've had good service. I'm still waiting to be contacted by the company Samsung referred me to. Been 2 days and no reply to my email or calls (generic answering machine picks up every time). If I don't hear by tomorrow, I'm calling Samsung back.

I'm really thinking about purchasing this set. I think its a fair price right now at Best Buy for $849.99 and it comes with 2 sets of glasses. I am still keeping my options open though. This would be the first Plasma I have ever used/bought. All I hear from my reading and research is nothing but horror stories about them and about IR, too much light in a room, different setting, etc. etc. I have done a bunch of reading about this TV and plasma's in general.

I'm not sure if whether to stick with LED style or try Plasma.

It would mostly be used for watching movies from my HTPC and playing games. I only game about 15 hours a week and its mostly games like borderlands and call of duty. It will be used with TV slightly. Will be used mostly for watching movies though.

Any input? suggestions? Maybe a little higher end set?

Looking for excellent picture quality
Don't really care about having WiFi or 3D
Looking to spend around $1,000 at the most, maybe a bit more if its a great deal.

Thanks for any input!

I was in the same situation 3-4 months ago. This set is my first plasma, and I will never go back to LED. It's the best choice you'll make regarding a TV. If you do the break-in correctly, you don't have to care about IR or BI. I'm playing PS3 20h/week and watch a lot of movies with black bars and never notice any IR. I'm using the scrolling thing once a week for 15 minutes to make sure there's no permanent burn-in. And the picture is PERFECT!
About the screen reflection, it's not that bad until you have a window facing the TV. I've had 5 (yes, 5!) middle to high-end LED tv in the past year, and they were all glossy, not as much as a plasma is, but if you're going from a high-end LED to plasma, it's not a big shock.
I did'nt care about 3D when I bought it, but now that I have it, I would not go back to a TV that does not. 3D is amazing and the conversion tool is well done.
It's your choice buddy, but remember, IR/BI are not an issue anymore if you care a little bit about your TV, and the glossy screen is not that bad.
If you decide to go with a LED, don't buy Sony's ones, I tried 3 different model, and they all s*cked! (banding, ghosting, flashlighting...)

Excellent news! Thanks for the information. Which method did you use to break-in your tv? I know their are a couple of different methods to do so and how long did you do it for? What games do you play on PS3? Do any of them have icons or maps that never move, like call of duty's HUD? All i hear is once a person goes to plasma, they don;t ever go back to an LED TV. That;s pretty incredible.

Also do you get a loud of buzzing noises/sounds from your tv? I know this was a pretty big topic on this tv in the first few pages of this thread.

Knowing my luck ill buy this and the the prices of the Panasonic GT and VT50's will drop drastically in price once the 2013's come out.

As I said in anoter post about the break-in period, I left the scrolling feature on for 3-4 nights and watch only full screen HD content for the first week (no PS3, no black bars during movies either!) It as a long week without my PS3! hahaha! About my games, I play almost only online on Call of Duty (Black Ops 2 rocks by the way!) and for a few hours straight sometimes, and never notice IR. And yes, you're right, if you go for a plasma, you'll never go back for a LED. Ok maybe an OLED but it'll take a few years!wink.gif
The only way I can hear a buzzing sound on my TV is when there's is a full white screen, like when I pause during a commercial, and when the volume is completely turned off. And I have to be one foot from the TV. If you watch a complete white screen one foot from your TV for hours, I think that the buzzing won't be an issue 'cause you're a wacko!
And before buying a Panasonic, there was a review on Cnet where they were saying that samsing won a IR/BI ''accidental'' test. Here's the link:http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57449881-221/samsung-plasma-wins-cnets-accidental-burn-in-test/
You should consider it before, especially if you're a gamer! My two cents!smile.gif
I think that's it! If you have any other questions, ask it here, and let us know what is your decision.
Trust me, going to plasma will be your best choice concerning your TV set.

Just ordered a PS51E550 from Tesco Direct £688.99. It's my 4th HD in 2-3 years.

I will run a test on http://www.humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime/ to see what the Lag Input is like once and for all. (215ms good 300ms bad.)

I'm hoping my set will be brightness pop, Lag Input, IR, buzzing noise, screen glare, screen spider crack ...free.

Yes I read that artice, it was pretty interesting. Can't believe they had to send the GT50 back. Thank you for all the input and help. Still kind of one the fence, this is expensive decision and don't want to end up regretting my choice one way or another confused.gif

I might just end up pulling the trigger on this one though

after a lot of research last night I decided to pass on the e550. I am an avid hockey fan with center ice package and movie enthusiast so a couple of the issues documented here led me a different direction. loved my current samsung plasma and was hoping to stay brand loyal but it doesn't make sense in my price range. i appreciate the input and answers to my questions! thanks

I would like to go with the 55GT50 BUT:

1 50" is plenty big for our viewing area (never thought *I* would say that LOL
2) Price is a factor - so even the 50GT50 is more expensive
3) a major Big Box has the Sammys at half a Benjamin less than yesterday - since they change pricing on Sunday - I was almost hoping that they would raise the price.

Looks like we'll be starting out with the 51E550 - hope it works out.
Price shouldn't be an issue. I walked into my local big box store for the 55ST50 price matched to amazon. The guy asked if I wanted the GT50 instead for $50 over the amazon price matched ST50. I couldn't hand him the money fast enough.

That doesn't help your size limitation though. Good luck on your purchase, hope you enjoy your Sammy. Mine served me well for over 3.5 years. smile.gif

another update for my set, well unfortunately its not good..

so they visited my set on the day they said they would, unfortunately i wasnt home when at the time they came and since there were people in the house they went ahead and change the mainboard. sad news is when i got home and tested the set initially it was ok using the normal function of being a tv set, but when i started using the smartmenu it end up the same at the original mainboard it came in,.

one thing i notice is that the smart menu started with just around 55-70mb usage and around 900+mb free and it was working fine. smart menu prompted for update so i went ahead and did it, after update usage became 220mb and 700+ free. and thats when things started to lag and freeze. worst is when i set social tv to run when tv is turned on, somethings when i turn on the tv and it tries to connect the connecting sign on top would freeze and it would freeze the whole function of the tv. the only difference i notice with the new mainboard is that when all functions freeze im still able to turn the set of with the remote but has to unplug and replug the set to be able to turn it on again..

does anyone use and experience social tv?
anyone else experience lag and freeze on smart menu?

Got my 51E550 today - First impressions:

Buzzing - yes - if I stand by the set - from our normal viewing distance - no.

Glare - yup - looks like a mirror when it's off. Very tolerable in normad day light - in bright scenes. Somewhat more noticeable in dark scenes. Solution for that - close the blinds.

Firmware update went through fairly painlessly.

No cable until probably this weekend (I'm too lazy to mess around with the existing boxes in the house - will not be able to pick one up until probably Saturday.

Had a friend over - watched some of the 3D Demos - he and my wife both said that it looks better than in a theater. WAF was a biggie - and it passed.

So far, so good!

We ordered the Samsung PS51E550 FROM Tesco Direct last week and they took our money, tonight 2 days before deliver they have sent an email claiming we cancelled the order. We've rung Tesco Direct up and they claim it was advertised at the wrong price. We suggested that they have to honour it but they were defiant.

Every comparison site linked to Tesco at £689 (£679 to 1st time buyers) and even Tesco displayed the price at £688.99, we noticed 10 minutes after ordering the TV at £688.99 it had gone up to £838.99 on their site and now £882.99 ...so something is very fishy.

http://www.tesco.com/direct/samsung-ps51e550-51inch-widescreen-full-hd-3d-plasma-tv-with-freeview-and-2-glasses/509-7256.prd?recommendationId=4988102a-4a82-4c18-bbf1-4a34d48266d1.0&skuId=509-7256

We told Tesco we'd never use them again for anything online, shopping and fuel, but they really weren't bothered. They will lose 1,000's in the long run.

I just hope it isn't a battle to get our £688.99 back frown.gif

Well, quick update. Finally got in touch with the service center recommended by Samsung. After looking at the pixel and discussing it with Samsung, it looks like I'll be getting a new panel sometime next week. I'll report back once that's been taken care of.

Has anyone experienced a panel change? I'm guessing I'll have to re-break it in, which stinks since I just finished, but oh well.

Panel changes are a big repair, especially for a plasma. make some space for the repair and make sure either you or the technician has a blanket to guard the new screen during the repair (you have no idea how many times I've seen a tech do this repair on a hardwood floor). Also, MAKE SURE the set runs for about 15 to 20 minutes after the repair is done, BEFORE the technician leaves. This "warm-up" process can determine whether the new panel is calibrated correctly, or needs some voltage tweaking to get rid of any diffusion on the screen.

On the plus side, with any Samsung panel, you get all the associated boards used to create the picture (no main board or power supply, but it comes with everything else).

i purchased this set today. i have a quick question. i have a soundbar running using the arc support. the tv controller will work the volume on the soundbar etc but everytime i volume up or down on the soundbar, it shows up on the tv as connecting to receiver. is there a way to prevent this from showing up. it seems like whenever the menu is open, it doesn't show. i was hoping i could keep it from showing up all the time. thanks for the help.

Just got the E550 today after my 43 inch 720 p samsung plasma had some issue with a green spot. I had it for 1 1/2 years. Best Buy just refunded everything with store credit. The E550 happened to be on sale so I did some researching on it immediately. I really wanted to upgrade to 1080 p so the fact this was at a good price was awesome. The extra features like smart tv and 3d are actually a lot cooler than I thought they would be. What's really funny is that this exact tv, minus the smart tv and 3d features was priced the same amount as the one with the features. They have to be completely idiotic to think someone would buy the one without the features for the same price as the one with all of the extras. Just couldn't really comprehend that. You'd think they'd make it $50-$100 less but whatever.

Anyway can anyone point me in the direction of some 360 and PS3 picture settings? I know that they are different for everyone but I just want to have a starting point and adjust where I think it needs adjusting. I've found HD tv settings just not a whole lot for gaming systems and blu ray movies. If anyone could point me in the direction that would be great. I've spent a lot of time trying to find some and I haven't had much luck as for a starting base. I guess with the time I've spent I probably could have done it myself. If anyone could help me out that would be awesome. Thanks!

I really want to like this TV over it's Panasonic counterpart (wifi, glasses included, extra 1") but the more research I do, the more I feel like the UT50 is the better TV.

The thing that really seem to be inferior to the UT50 is black levels and 3D quality. Can anyone offer some testimonials on how the 3D performance is the PNE550?
