Updated to 1026 but don't see anything different either. Google didn't help. rolleyes.gif

I'm curious about this "buzzing" that people have been reporting from Samsung plasmas. Is it really as loud as some people make it seem, or is it a nitpick that can be ignored?
It is common in most to all Samsung plasma's. I have owned a 2009 pn50b530, 2010 pn58c500, and now own a 2012 pn64e550, they all buzzed and you get used to it. The 58 had a buzz when it was newer and faded over time. It is just one of those thing you have to deal with just like motion blur and soe on lcd led's. All tv's are not perfect and they all have their pros and cons. I will take the picture quality of a palsma with a buzz over any lcd led with motion blur and soe imo. I have heard the pannys do not humm but I always preferred the brighter picture of a Samsung over the deeper blacks of a panny. It's all about what you think is best, but I would say it's more of a nitpick. I just hope I made the right choice on choosing the 64e550 over the 60" 7000/8000 series since I paid about the same price for the 64" over the others.

The buzzing on my set was present when purchased in mid-2012, but has since faded away. So there's a vote of confidence.
Thats weird my doesn't buzz at all. 0.o

Sometimes when the bass is too much for the medium size speaker drivers i will hear buzzing but not from the TV just running.
I have had my PN51E550D1F for almost a yr.
The only time I get the buzz is if one of the choke colis is removed from the power cord or ethernet cable.

Does anyone know what the 1027 firmware improvments are ?
1026 was out last week and its odd to have a new firmware so close to the release of the old one.

Mine updated and it has been giving me problems. For instance while exiting out of netflix or getting in the app menu the screen is distorted like when you display 640*480 on your computer screen. When I exit to watch tv the channels are fine but the box that tells you what input or channel I am on takes up half the screen. When I turn it off then back on it's fine. I have only had the 64E550 for 5 days now and only noticed it happening after the latest update but I am not sure if it is from the update or just a usual hiccup.

I just noticed that I am getting "super HD" on netflix now, that may be a part of the update.

I also have been lucky with zero buzz on 4 different samsung plasmas from my first B series to my latest E550. I did fall victim to the dreaded red flare on 2 separate pn42c450 plasmas after 18 months on both.I asked samsung about the firmware update and was told the usual vague PQ enhancements???Otherwise the set has been good overall since June 2012, I believe. The usb media share feature is my favorite, as I just plug in most any ext HDD & play pretty much any file I have. The E series seems to need less calibration tweaking than my C or even D8000 series, although the color saturation on the C seemed more vibrant.BIG Thanks to Sonyfan & TJ among others for great feedback & starter settings a while back. Thanks and good luck to all!smile.gif

Hello all,

My girlfriend and I purchased this TV last night. We were immediately impressed with its design and size. The first thing we turned on to watch was ice hockey, and it is something we plan to watch for at least half the time we are using the TV.

Our impressions after about 4 hours of hockey were muted. There is a lot of white in hockey, with jerseys and the ice, but we really were not impressed the quality of the whites. It had a strong grayish tone to it.

I understand it is very early to judge, but I was wondering if we should expect the whites to be this muted, if it gets better over time, if there are calibration settings that bring the vibrancy of the ice out?
Or would we be better off returning it for an LED TV?

Our intentions for this TV are for watching hockey, playing Xbox, using it as a computer screen for our home theater PC, and for watching a bit of TV and Movies.

Any help and input would be appreciated.

I got the 60e550 3 days ago and its a great TV ,my only complaint is when I play Xbox especially FP games like skyrim or farcry the motion blur makes the games almost unplayable. I've tried messing with the settings and switching from HDMI back to the component cables and nothing seems 2 help at all. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm hoping it's something that will go away over time because the TV is not broke in yet. Any suggestions ? Other then that the TV is great 3d works well although 2d to 3d isn't the best.smart hub works well ,streaming from Netflix or vudu is awesome . I have no buzz what so ever. Picture quality is great once you tweak the settings to your liking. The sound is much better then I thought it would be ( movie mode) and the set itself looks very sleek but I'm a lifelong gamer and the motion blur is ruining this great TV for me after all I bought this set because I was led to believe that plasmas didn't have issues with motion blur. Ifanyone has a suggestion iI would appappreciate it and no I'm not switching to a crappy led or lcd . I love the picture on a plasma so that's what I'm sticking with

I also bought my 51E550 locally in South Africa and am trying to get the PVR functionaity to work. I have tried a powered HDD as well as a USB-only powered HDD, but whnever I press the "Record" button on the remote, I get a "Not Avialbale" message popping up. Tried both USB ports - but I guess it is supposed to work with the one marked "HDD".

Does our models locally support recording? Will be pretty lame if it doesn't!

Thanks for any help! biggrin.gif

Has anyone got this working??
Got the tv - awesome, but would like to have the recording function working.

Thanks

Have you made sure your in game mode, which is under the system menu then general setting select game mode on. Hope this helps
post #586 of 631
Yes its in game mode I've tried everything I can think of and I still get the blur but it my first plasma so I'm not completely sure if its the set. Thats doin it or if its my settings
post #587 of 631
Not sure mine is the 51" set and I haven't had any problems whatsoever. I'm also using a ps3, which i had to get the settings within the ps3 correct. I would suggest checking your settings within the xbox and also searching the avs forums for a solution. Hope you can get it sorted out because playing CoD Blops 2 on my Samsung looks truly amazing!

Good deal Truth407 as I said earlier I love my set.

One question for anyone, does anyone know what firmware 001027 includes as i'm still on 001025 and haven't updated yet. Thanks for any info!biggrin.gif

Got this from Samsung on FW update 001027 resolved issue (no details given), improved picture quality (again no details given) and there was another minor addition which I forgot. Sure wish Samsung would be a little more detailed on what exactly they are doing with their updates. Oh well I believe i'll update and see if there are any noticeable improvements. I will post again if there is.cool.gif

Did you adjust the contrast, brightness and pixel brightness??? Turn you TV to 'Dramatic' mode then adjust from there. The whites should be fine.

Also if you can in the TV menu, turn off 'Digital Noise Filter' or set it to auto. This will bring out more clarity and less ghosting/blur

Could be my eyes playing tricks but it does seem to be a bit clearer and crisper!
I purchased the 60E550 two week ago and am really liking it. I have a little buzz, but it's only noticeable when there is not sound in the room whatsoever. I'm letting my 100 hours of break in go by before I tweak the settings. I did turn off any DNR settings though. 3D has been good and this from a person who is not a huge fan of it. I watched Flying Swords of Dragon Inn the other day and it was awesome. I did pick up some better 3D glasses, as I wear glasses and the cheapo Samsung ones are not comfortable to me. There is some glare during the day as the bay window is on the east side of the room, but I'm at work during the day anyway.

This set replaced a 46" Samsung LCD that was about 4 years old, only 60 Hz, so it's a big upgrade for me. I wanted to get a 60" ES series LED, but it was out of my price range, the 55" was in the range. I really wanted a 60" and I'm happy with this plasma.

One cool feature I did not know about caused a funny situation. My TV kept bringing up Netflix and I could not figure why, checked my One remote settings, all was good. Finally figured out my daughter was watching Netflix on my iPad and it was prompting her to watch on the TV or the iPad. Very neat feature, didn't even have to configure it.

Overall, happy with this purchase for the price. I put my old 46" in the basement, and sold my old Toshiba 40" LCD that was down there to my sisters family.

I also think the backlight might brighter too.

So I got the 60E550 last week and it took me nearly a week to get the thing calibrated. I looked at the cnet post and there is no way I can keep the Cell Light at 20 and Contrast at 100 as it recommends. I watch a lot of TV at night and in the dark and with these settings my eyes were being fried out of their sockets! Not only that but whites were washed out. I left my Cell Light at 20 and dialed the contrast all the way down to 55 with all the other setting the same as cnet and it looks great now. Also anyone else have some strange flickering of the picture at times in white scenes? If so how do I resole it? I did the latest Firmware update which has my set to 1027. Thanks
