HTPC Display Issue (DisplayPort/HDMI)

I recently built my first HTPC and while I got everything running I am having some issues with my displays. The HTPC has an AMD A8-3850 APU with AMD Radeon 6550 HD Graphics and a Gigabyte GA-A75M-UD2H (rev. 1.0) which has, among other things, 1 HDMI and 1 DisplayPort. What I want to be able to do: I want to be able to run the output of the HTPC to a Pioneer VSX-1020 Receiver AND run the output directly to a Panasonic VIERA TC-P42S30 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV. The reason I want to be able to do this is so that I can watch Hulu (for example) either straight from the HTPC to the HDTV, when I do not want to us surround sound and do not need to receiver's other capabilities AND I want to be able to watch Hulu (for example) through the receiver to the HDTV for when I do want to use surround sound and etc. My current step up the is not working as I would like is as follows

HTPC (HDMI) > Receiver HDMI In > Receiver HDMI Out > HDTV HDMI In #1 | This works as expected

HDTV Antenna (via Coax) > HDTV Coax Input (**) | This works as expected
** I am also using the Digital Optical output from the HDTV to the Digital Optical in on the Receiver to get the sound through the receiver when I want to watch OTA Channels and have surround sound.

HTPC (DisplayPort) > HDTV HDMI In #2 (***) | This does not work
*** I am doing this by going from the DisplayPort on the HTPC to the HDTV's HDMI using Cable Matters 15 ft DisplayPort Male to HDMI Male Cable

I don't know if this is even possible but it is what I am trying to do. I have not read anything documented from AMD or Radeon saying that it cannot be done, actually, it appears that the DisplayPort connection should support >3 monitors using EyeFinity. I'm not sure if I am just missing a setting somewhere or whatbut I have exhausted everything I know to do. I see other options being a 1 to 2 HDMI splitter but I am not sure what would happen with resolution when I run one of the HDMI's into the receiver and one into the HDTV.

If anyone has encountered something similar or has an easier option to accomplish my goals your help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Why are you making two input connections to your HDTV from the same source? If your AVR switches inputs then there is no need to do this. I have all Devices go to the AVR with one and only one HDMI cable from the AVR to the HDTV with no other HDMI inputs on it. If the HTPC is connected to your AVR and your AVR is connected to your HDTV then that should be all you need.

My AVR absolutely switches inputs; however, I am making two connections from the same source to avoid having to use the AVR. For example - I watch streaming news channels from my HTPC...I do not want to watch the news in surround sound, I would rather just hear it from the HDTV speakers. I am not aware of any way to avoid getting it in surround sound except to circumvent the AVR all together. Of course there are other times where I would want to go through the AVR...thus the two connections from the same source.

Is my reasoning flawed? Is there a better way to be able to choose whether I listen to content from my HTPC via surround sound OR my tv speakers?

Thanks in advance!

You need to run two cables to the TV's inputs, one going to the AVR and the other to your PC. Set the video card to extended mode.

assuming you have got the windows desktop set up correctly, guess easiest way would be to find a monitor w displayport input to confirm the port and config are working. I read elsewhere that others experience problems w passive displayport -> hdmi converters and active ones (need to connect to usb port to draw power) work better.

pls do share the findings as I also would like to do a similar set up myself.
