Looks spot on, some stuff maybe from the game?

I found the first hour a bit cluttered and gimmicky. The second hour was better. However I'm probably not the target demographic for this show so I'll give it another episode or two. Not sure in the long run it's going to work. I compare it to the pilot for Moore's "Battlestar Galactica" which moved much better and drew the audience in better.

As I said above, this show and that one are not in the same universe of writing or imagination. That much is already clear.

After reading this thread I realize I'm out of touch. I actually liked it, which is more than I can say for many of the new shows on SyFy.

it isn't another BSG or FF but based on the pilot I found it interesting enough to continue watching & give it a good chance. IMO, the pilot was far superior to Terra Nova in terms of characters-casting. The weird aliens kind of made me nostalgic for Farscape wink.gif

the only other "newer" series I can watch on SyFy these days without getting bored with the characters are Haven & Continuum. Defiance could have potential.

So, all these other races were created by the terraforming, or did they come from somewhere else?
The main character was likeable enough- kind of like a poor man's Harrison Ford... I liked his line "take as many side bets as you can... I'll try to carry this bum as many rounds as I can..."
I'll give it a few episodes to see where it goes.

They fled from a dying star system. They wanted to immigrate to earth. Something started a war and 33 years later here we are.

Same EP as Farscape - agreed it has a similar kind of feel.

The pilot episode was pretty bland, but I like the production values and it seems like they build a lot of interesting elements into the show to work from, so I'll keep watching. Certainly, it gives me a really good reason to finally stop watching Revolution!

Ok now that I have watched it again. Things from the GAME that made it into the show.
Reason why they where running to pay back Varus (Hes in the game). Crystal they used in the Arc Fall (Helped them get it in the game).
Reason why they Nolan had only a pistol (He gave me his Rifle for getting crystal in game).
Meeting Mayor Mention via Tele conference is the leader of SanFran area in the game.

Day after the episode aired, Stuff from show into game
Armistce celebration.

You do not have to play the game at all to enjoy the show but I find it helps on back ground story. Remember this is the first of it's kind where the game and the show interact. Things will flow between the two. I hear much more so if they renewed for season 2.

No spoliers becase I want to see how the show handles it but Nolan is a VERY execptional individual.

Now the Ratings 2.7mil for Syfy is well big. This is only the US so far, it has yet to show overseas. SHould premire tonight Thursday. I think over 6 mill in game hours played.
Let's put this in perspective, shall we?

Best SyFy premiere for target audience since Eureka:

Eureka ran for 5 seasons, enough to run indefinitely in syndication, and spawned 3 novels and a couple of one-off comic books.

Best SySy premiere for total audience numbers since Warehouse 13:

Warehouse 13 is about to start its 4th season and has already spun off a 5-issue comic and a novel

Second season is all but a given.

Good to know! Figure with the the money spent on the show and game was done upfront, it will be a "cheap" show to produce.

I finally got around to watching the ep from my DVR. They didn't lose me. There looks to be several arcs that could be entertaining enough to keep my curiosity up enough to keep tuning in. The scifi is there to set premise. I don't quite get why they had to put a spin on things like "law keeper" instead of "marshal" or "sheriff", these items are minor. The stories and characters will determine the long term viewership.

We watched the first 10 minutes of the pilot on our DVR and it was truly awful - does it really get better?

Currently enjoying Orphan Black and The Americans.

We really like Continuum, Dr Who, Torchwood, Battlestar Galactica etc

I don't know, perhaps you could watch the rest of it and make up your own mind? ... or not. wink.gif

I have higher hopes for this show than Continuum. At least it's actually a science fiction show, rather than a crime drama gussied up like one. It's sad that our choices for things other than crime dramas and competition shows have gotten this slim, but it beats having zero options. Then again, maybe being centered around a "Lawkeeper" will let this one devolve into a crime drama, too. Maybe 'Helix' will be better.

Reminded me of Terra Nova, but with aliens instead of dinosaurs.

The writing is similar, for sure.

You might change your mind after the next few episodes. Reviews for the upcoming episodes have suggested this is a crime drama dressed up, with plots involving the sheriff investigating something or other each week.

Based on the writing and acting in the first 10 minutes - probably or not.

I will probably leave it on the DVR for a couple of weeks and see people are liking the next few episodes - but it seemed truly bad based on the start of the pilot and that is the point they should be trying to get us interested enough to keep watching.

I hope there's more to it than that or it will be like Terra Nova with aliens vs dinos tongue.gif
it that's what SyFy has in mind for a long term run, the sound you hear is the potential for original stories being flushed down the toilet.
Syfy still thrives on procedurals so I would not be surprised if this is just more of the same with different trappings. We had a murder mystery in the pilot.

As I've previously mentioned the pilot skipped over huge sections of culture and backstory development (even Falling Skies bothered with setup) and based on further comments from Alan Sepinwall that is not something they address any time soon.

The hips , or lack thereof, gave me reason to pause initially.

God I hope not, I hated TN.
Terra Nova was the kind of series that gives Sci-Fi a bad reputation.
