The real reason why receivers overheat.

I've read numerous people complaining and saying that their AVR has overheated or perhaps their HDMI board has failed. This picture says it all.


This receiver is a disaster waiting to happen. Onkyo specifically states on the manual to have at least 8 inches above and 3 inches on each side. He has maybe 2.5 inches of space above his receiver if that isn't enough he has BD player on top of the receiver. This is one of the reasons amp sections on newer AVRs have been downgraded compared to the older models.

I can see a new thread poping soon....My Onkyo receiver just blew up....

That reminds me of the statement that 'too little power kills speakers'. Speakers should be blowing up when not connected to any amo under that theory

Those are some BAAAAAD subwoofers on each side of the stand though! Wouldn't mind owning a pair like this guy...

I was thinking the same. Seems to be pretty decent equipment. Even go some guard ducks.

Meh. That's not too bad. Remove the Blu-Ray player or whatever it is from the top and it'll be fine. Putting receivers in a closed cabinent or closet is what really kills them off, 8" of clearance or not.

My Integra sits in a cabinet, but with at least 8"+ of room above, open to the rear and when it's on I keep the door ajar at least a foot for it to breath. A BB sales person tried to tell my friend that he can put anything on the receiver, nothings going to happen....

Yeah, if it were mine, I'd remove the disc player from the top of it, then direct a small fan to blow a bit of air through the space between the top of the receiver and the shelf right above it.

nismo tell him about the space required so that his receiver doesn't over heat. He has some nice speakers and subs.
