Advice on a SAS Expansion Card for My Build.

I am upgrading my media server. I am moving away from my hardware RAID 5 setup and going to FlexRaid. I just purchased a Norco 4224 case to replace my old case. Since the backplane in the case uses SFF-8087 connectors, I am looking for some affordable cards with SFF-8087 connectors on them.

Any recommendations?

I am using two rocketraid 2680 pcie cards, in a Norco 4220 box with 4 sas cables to the backplanes on W7x64 and Flexraid snapshot raid with pooling. I currently have about 13tb in the box with plenty of room for expansion. It has worked well for me and the cards are available on Newegg for $99

I would recommend two of these.

You would also need forward breatkout cables. Also make sure your MB supports 2x at least x4 PCI-e slots.

Correct me if I am wrong but I will not need the breakout cables since the Norco 4224 uses an SFF-8087 connector on the backplane. I would also need three of these cards (if I wanted to max out the HDs) since I have 6 backplanes in the Norco 4224, correct? Each port on the card going to each backplane in the case.

You still have SATA ports on the MB.

Probably easier to explain with pictures. Here's a guy who did an unRaid build using that case and a complete parts/pictures list. Hope this helps.
