How much poly fill should I put in my sub?

The sub I currently have is an Audiosource 15 from about 1999. It has almost no fill in it.

According to a few user reviews at audio reviews it helps to put more fill in it.

How much? Fill half, all, really stuff it?

Thanks

Most people use 1LB of fiberfill per cubic foot of space in the woofer as their rule of thumb. Or, you can just add it 1/2LB at a time. It’s up to you, since the “right amount” is the amount that ends up sounding best, so you may want to play around with it for a while. When you add it, don’t pack it in too tightly and make sure it fills the entire space.

Most use about a 1lb bag per sub. You don't want to make it too tight. Just make sure you get the fire retardant one. You don't want to cause a fire in your sub.

Thanks for the responses.

I was just planning on ripping open some cheap Walmart pillows and using the stuffing from them. It's a lot cheaper than the free standing fill.

Plus I can't find any locally.

you might check over on the DIY speaker sub section.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=155
questions there you may locate sources for it.
I don't know about the pillow stuff...
as was quoted above you do not want to start a fire....or later have it breakdown.

Well I have the fill of 2 standard size pillows in the box plus the little bit that was already there.

Can't say for sure there is a lot of difference. Maybe it's a little less boomy and the output has decreased a little.

It only cost $8 to try. One day I'll get a good sub to replace it with.

Thanks

pillow stuffing will not remove the boomy from your sub.
to me it is usually where you have it set.
go to http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=824554
and in the first posting find the audio test tones from realtraps.
it starts out at 10Hz to 300Hz 1 Hz every 10 seconds.
once you get above the 23Hz area that is where most peoples hearing begins.
set your sub for clean sounding tones.

when most people get a sub they want to crank the levels up to get the effects from it.
volume level on my sub is set at 3 3/4 out of 10...and it still can shake my house for a 12" sub.
then set the output level to the sub to a point where there is no distortion of the tone.
be patient.

If its sealed, one pound per sq ft. Ported will need to be lined not stuffed like sealed......
