Okay im looking for the best one of these here. If there is something better around the same price ranges please include.

The setup im going to be running is:

Denon avr 1712
jamo s606

I think I have the best setup right now for receiver and speakers at their price points and want to do the same for the sub.

So which sub? Is their any better at this price point?

In the under $300 range, PL-200 is the recommended sub.

It's one of several recommended subs; that depends on who's answering, and the intended application. What I gather is that the PL-200 is a good buy for home theater and that the S10.3 is a good buy for music. The PL-200 is described as a bit loose for music but loud; and the S10.3, a bit quiet for home theater but surprisingly tight.

I own a VSW-10, which is kind of like the S10.3's rich-boy cousin: about the same frequency response and about the same output, in a prettier package. I highly recommend the VSW-10 for music in a smaller space, where it shines (I have a VSW-10 and I use it in exactly that way); but it's hard for me to recommend it for HT, especially in a larger space.

Hope this helped!

Based on a few reports from folks who've owned both the S10.3 and the ESW-V10 (speculated to be identical to the VSW10) or the Mirage equivalents... the S10.3 may not be quite as "musical" as the VSW10, but it has more output.

It also does extend lower than the VSW10, as confirmed by measurements at HTMag.

S10.3: -3dB = 24Hz

VSW-10: -3dB = 29Hz

Personally, I'd go with the S10.3 over the BIC subs.

I guess I should have tried harder to say this exact same thing in a less roundabout way

Sorry for the thread hijack but just in case anyone's missed the deal...

This thread finally broke me down. The s10.3 is $199 with free shipping at Newegg right now (listed as ending today!), pulled the trigger this morning

Sorry guys, but I am needing some QUICK help on this. I want to get a sub today for my brother's birthday. He has a medium/large living room opening to other large rooms. I want a budget of around $200. I bought the Energy S10.3 for my bedroom set-up, but wondered if the BIC F12 would be better for my bro as it is a 12" driver. Yes, I have seen the "budget sub thread (< $500)"; however, I was not able to come to a conclusion.

Would the F12 dig lower and play louder than the S10.3? It will be primary HT use. I know the S10.3 is awesome for music. Thanks!!

I have 2 bic f12's. I love them. I do want to upgrade but for the price they are hard hitting subs with decent lows for sub $200.

Personally if you have the ability to in regards to neighbors, save up for an svs pb12 or hsu research. They hit sub 20hz cleanly and are awesome.

I have not heard the s10.3 or the pl-200, but have an F12 and think its pretty much awesome for sub $200. we took it to the omaha GTG last year and everyone there was impressed with it for its price. it actually beat a lot of the more expensive subs in 1-2 clips (out of a bajillion that were played) Most folks gave it due respect for its capability for its price point. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Especially if you can get it at $180.

I just ordered the energy too, couldn't resist. I also got two Polk monitor 60's and the CS1 center. All that for <$500. How could I go wrong?
I have an SVS 25-31 plus in the HT. This is obviously not that but it's also not $850.

I grabbed two S10.3's for $380....I should be picking them up sometime this week and I'll report back!

I got both the 10.3's hooked up and they are way more than enough for me, a big upgrade over the single esw-c8 i was running before. running 2 of these are overkill for my needs right now and personally i don't think i could've done better for the price

Nice! I just have one in my living room hooked up today. I would agree that this is quite a capable sub. I am surprised at what I got for $189:D It isn't as great as my SVS, but I don't expect it to be. It KILLS the 10 inch BIC I replaced for sure. Tight bass and doesn't seem to flinch. I am going a little easy because the manual says to break it in a bit first.

Can I still get the s10.3 for 199?
Looks like it's $219. That's still a very good price for that sub. If you want to see if Newegg will run it on special again for less, subscribe to their mailing list. You'll need that to get promo codes if they offer any.

Just saw on Newegg today that the S10.3 is on sale for $200 (until 8/20). I also have the F-12 on its way to my house to hook up. I might just end up ordering this too to do a comparison.

Anyone out there tried both and has some light to shed in how they compare?

So, will you guys think about this 12" sealed SUB ? I only found very limited review about it. but specification looks not bad.

Because of the weight and size, it's not cheap to ship a sub back if you are only planning on keeping one.

F12 may have more SPL. The S10.3 is supposedly a little tighter, with a better (flatter) frequency response than the F12. However, your room and placement will have a big factor on this.
