Mackie HD 1521 set up

Hi All
I need help, I have a set of Mackie HD 1521 speakers I acquired. I need to go from the speaker to a MP3 player. I have adapters now but I have to pull the plug out of the mp3 player plug a little to make it work.and it cuts out sometimes. In Afghanistan we went from the speaker-small mixer-mp3 player and it worked awesome. I sent the speakers home but was unable to send the set up home. can someone please tell me exactly what cables and cheap mixer I need to get this to work correctly with my Mp3 player? I already have the XLR cable that connects both speakers.

thank you all for any help

A cheap mixer like the Behringer ZENYX 802 will do, or even the 502. Cables for that one between the mixer and Mackie speaker will be 1/4” TS to XLR male – two of those if you want stereo. Between the MP3 player and the mixer, you’ll need a 3.5 mm headphone cable that splits out to two RCA jacks, then a pair of RCA to 1/4" adapters.
