where did that thing come from? Sounds interesting and the $199 PP from B&H is very attractive.
W/M sells it for $100 more....The front says Digital Stream, I assume the same company that sold CECBs??
It mentions EPG but I wonder if it's just PSIP.... it does say 7 day and technically PSIP can go to 7 but rarely over 24hrs. Interesting that is has a composite input...

I checked out Digitalstream, but they mostly have products for overseas, nothing on this model.

http://www.dstreamtech.com/english/

RCA mentions Innovative DTV Solutions, but still nothing about the DPH-1000R.

Apparently it was hidden from all AV Science members (see my post 4 down)

Huh??

The "RCA" name is as low as one can go (other than Polaroid) since your guess is as good as mine who exactly owns the name. Forget about support. Been there, done that for one of their phones years ago when they were somehow connected to Audiovox.

As far as this device which id actually from INNOVATIVE DTV SOLUTIONS, INC., they must of 'bought' rights to the RCA name hoping the name will sell the product.

Looking over B&H's specs, it only lists one RF input.

This is suppose to be their website;
http://www.idtvsolutions.com/

But all I get is a database connection error.

Notice on the review... "does not support recorded Closed Captioning".
post #7 of 102
Maybe ePVision designed it.

Would you beleive a "boat parts" supplier has it listed??;
http://www.warehouseboatparts.com/ca...utionsInc.html

No "RCA" trademark listed here;
http://www.trademarkia.com/company-i...48970-page-1-2

Plenty here (all 94 dead);
http://www.trademarkia.com/company-r...17442-page-1-2

RCA manufacturing (all dead);
http://www.trademarkia.com/company-r...17445-page-1-2

All but three dead (notice whats still 'active', the two oldest ones);

Haha! You know they do have a slight resemblance. (Butt Ugly)
You know, now that I look at it, the RCA faceplate looks like a Xbox 360.
I can't believe all we can scrounge up is one measly review on this.

No internet access. That goes in the minus column.

A picture of the back and remote would be nice.

RCA used to be a respectable name in consumer electronics, along with Zenith, GE, Magnavox, and Sylvania. Now they're just former legacy names acquired by other companies, such as LG and Audiovox, to give some degree of prestige to otherwise mediocre or inferior products. Currently, Audiovox manufactures some RCA branded antennas, but their better ones such as HDTVi use the Terk label, and the RCA 751 is made by Winegard. But if this DVR is indeed made by Digital Stream, it may indeed be a decent box, although absent certain features. In the past, Digital Stream made a good standalone HDTV tuner box, as well as one of the better CECB converter boxes. Both with good tuners. But it is interesting how the DPH-1000R has slipped by somewhat under the radar.

This unit may someday show up on one of these 2 sites:

The front panel looks similar to this Freeview unit:

Brave soul.

I called B&H Photo about getting a link to a user manual and they couldn't help me. I asked if they sold these on the floor at the store and they said they do. I also asked if they had any returns on them to which they said they hadn't, but that's what I expected them to say.
I called RCA customer support and kept getting directed to different departments (in India) because they all said they did not support that product please call 1-800-555-****. The third 1-800 I called never picked up so that was a dead end.
I emailed RCA customer service and this is what they replied:
From:jeffrie@1800customersupport.com, we don't support this unit. Please contact Audiovox at 1.800.894.0956 or visit their website at www.audiovox.com. Have a great day.
I guess I'll try Audiovox later and see what they have to say.

O.K. here is what Audiovox CS said after I had to make an account just to ask a question:

Response Via Email(Trudy Holden) - 03/30/2012 03:48 PM
Dear morc258,
Audiovox Electronics does not handle this product. The RCA home audio and video product line was purchased by Venturer Electronics. Please contact their customer support center at 1-800-721-4007 or 1-800-821-5875 or by e-mail to rcasupport@1800customersupport.com .
Sincerely, Trudy.Customer Service

Notice I was redirected right back to RCA support again. I even forwarded the email that I had received from RCA earlier and she still sent me back there.
What a PITA

Oh yeah, Who the F is Venturer Electronics?

http://www.venturer.com/products.aspx?cid=1

They don't have anything on that website about the DPH-1000R either!

Amazon is so weird I saw the link you posted for $228 which says available since 11/'11 but I also saw the same product listed for $199 and says available since 3/2/'12
http://www.amazon.com/RCA-HDTV-Digit...3137967&sr=1-1
I'll look forward to your review mickinct, lots of questions but very little answers so far about this product. For $199+ shipping(and no monthly fees) the Price Point is very attractive

Very good unit

Easy to set up, ease to use & has an excellent picture on recorded program using an HDMI feed to the TV. My problem with the unit was that there was NO closed captioning on the recorded programs.
For anyone with hearing loss that is a must.

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Beach Audio just put it on their site.

Seems they are trying to sell it. From the web site:

"This product was added to our catalog on Friday, March 30, 2012."

Who knows. I though I would buy anything. You beat me on this one.

I'M wondering if this outputs HD from component??
post #28 of 102
I would think?? it would. I believe only things like BD and DVD players limit component for CP issues.
post #29 of 102
IF this does not output hd from comp, it will go back, I have a sony dhg-hdd250 that lets me record HD from component as well as HDMI , to my PC to a hapaugge unit.

I think you meant to say "send HD" from component. The only input to a DHG is rf.
