Not until the computer brain scans me and develops a desktop based on what I like. I am almost afraid of what would be thrown together.

At minimum, Hybyde is an extremely cool technical feat. Switching among desktops is almost instantaneous, no logging out as advertised.
Appears to have Ubuntu Software center, and far more apps installed by default, including Flash and I assume other media related codecs.
Might make a good choice for those wanting an Ubuntu 12.04/Mint13 compatible distro fully loaded from the get go and can't decide which desktop to use.
KDE appeared to be the only desktop to hang the system when I tried to leave KDE and switch back to the default boot up screen/Hybyde Menu. KDE always seems the "odd man out" for me...
Trivial to drag/drop Hybyde onto a USB stick to boot it up, as I'm doing now, using Multisystem

This is a prime example of why it's important for a distro to achieve "critical mass" and mindshare/marketshare- lots of compatible derivatives to choose from, making a nice ecosystem/distro family.
In the case of Ubuntu, we have everything from the most memory/CPU efficient, Lucid Puppy, to Mythbuntu, Ubuntu Studio, MInt, and now Hybryde, as well as all the others

Another desktop to try
http://razor-qt.org/
ExTiX 10 64-bit is a remastered build of Ubuntu 12.04. The original system includes the Unity 5.8 desktop. After removing Unity I have installed GNOME 3.4, GNOME Shell and Razor-qt so that everyone can compare the different desktop environments. The system language is English. Installed programs include LibreOffice 3.5.3, AbiWord, Firefox 12.0, Opera, Thunderbird 12.0.1, Brasero, VLC 2.0.1, GIMP and win32 codecs. In addition, Java and all necessary additions are available in order to install programs from source. All programs have been updated to the latest available stable versions as of May 17, 2012. I have installed NVIDIA driver 295.53 so that you can enjoy the full GNOME desktop.

After a long year of development, The Zorin OS Team are very proud to release the Zorin OS 6 Core Release Candidate, the pre-release version of our groundbreaking new operating system. Zorin OS 6 has been our most significant leap forward since Zorin OS’s initial release nearly 3 years ago. At the core of Zorin OS 6 lies our new, unique desktop environment named “Zorin Desktop” instead of the Unity, Gnome Shell and Cinnamon offerings. Zorin Desktop embraces all of the latest and greatest of Open Source software and technologies such as Gtk3 and other software from the GNOME 3 software stack, all without affecting the familiarity and usability of the desktop which still retains its Windows 7-like default look and our innovative Zorin Look Changer which allows users to choose between the Windows 7, XP and GNOME 2 graphical interfaces. Zorin Desktop uses AWN as the default panel to allow for unparalleled customizability and support for our different looks in the Zorin Look Changer. Along with the new desktop environment Zorin OS 6 RC packs a ton of software updates, a newly redesigned Software Center, Linux Kernel version 3.2 and a load of other improvements and features. We also include our Zorin Web Browser Manager to ease the installation of web browsers. As Zorin OS 6 is based on Ubuntu 12.04 it is an LTS (Long Term Support) release, provided with 5 years of security updates.
The Zorin OS 6 Core Release Candidate is made to get your feedback on what we have created so far. It is only available as a 32 bit version but the final version of Zorin OS 6 will also be available in 64 bit. You can download Zorin OS 6 Core RC here.

In general I agree. However, for Linux noobs/converts from Windows, having a familiar look/layout is sometimes helpful, at least in the short term.
Think of these Win look-alike desktops as a nicotine patch for the recovering masses :D

Some of the features Dream Studio users have come to know and love: a full desktop operating system based on Ubuntu, for unprecedented security, stability, portability, and ease of use; graphic design tools such as Inkscape for vector graphics, and GIMP for painting and photo retouching...."
Some of the features Dream Studio users have come to know and love:
- A full desktop operating system based on Ubuntu, for unprecedented security, stability, portability, and ease of use.
- Graphic design tools such as Inkscape for vector graphics, and GIMP for painting and photo retouching.
- Photography apps like the aforementioned GIMP for professional retouching, RawTherapee for RAW photo editing, Darktable for workflow and developing, and Luminance for HDR photography.
- Audio recording software like Ardour, hundreds of effects plugins and virtual instruments, and DJ tools such as Mixxx , SooperLooper, and Xwax.
- Blender for 3D image modeling, animation, and video editing. Dream Studio also includes luxrender and yafaray.
- Cinelerra for video editing and compositing.
- The GIMP Animation Package for frame-by-frame video retouching.
- Kompozer (a WYSIWYG web page editor), Scribus (a desktop publishing app), and Bombono (a DVD authoring program).
Dream Studio 12.04 also adds to this list the following improvements:
- Gimp 2.8, featuring the new single window interface.
- Sozi - an inkscape extension for creating svg animations (can be used with any browser supporting html5)
- A sane set of "favorite" plugins and session templates for Ardour
- A large collection of Impulse Responses.
- Ubuntu 12.04 as a system base, for 5 year support
- a new semi-rolling release schedule, giving users the latest versions of multimedia sofware with the most up-to-date feature set, while maintaining a stable base during the entire LTS cycle. Now you don't need to upgrade your entire OS every six months just to get the latest version of Ardour, GIMP, or Blender.
- an all new look, featuring a wallpaper that changes with the time of day (based on "Stripe" by hyperdude111)

It appears Ubuntu Studio may be better for the audiophile/ audio editing due to its low latency kernel and pre configured Jack drivers.
OTOH, DreamStudio has the new GIMP 2.8 and lots of other graphics related plugins and apps for the graphics/video enthusiast. Plus, for ongoing maintenance, DreamStudio offers;
- a new semi-rolling release schedule, giving users the latest versions of multimedia sofware with the most up-to-date feature set, while maintaining a stable base during the entire LTS cycle. Now you don't need to upgrade your entire OS every six months just to get the latest version of Ardour, GIMP, or Blender.
which can be important for noobs or any users that don't want to waste time mucking around with maintaining/chasing external PPA's or recompiling new app versions.

The team is proud to announce the release of Linux Mint 13 “Maya”.
Available in two editions, Linux Mint 13 features the choice between a productive, stable and mature MATE 1.2 desktop and the brand new modern-looking and exciting Cinnamon 1.4. These two desktops are among the best available, they’re perfectly integrated within Linux Mint and represent great alternatives to Gnome 2 users. Linux Mint 13 is also an LTS (Long Term Support) release and it will be supported until April 2017.

What's New
http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_maya_whatsnew.php
New features in Linux Mint 13
With the rock-solid MATE 1.2 and the brand new Cinnamon 1.4, Linux Mint provides a choice between two of the most popular Linux desktops. Whether you're looking for a mature and productive environment, or you're interested in being part of an exciting new adventure, we hope you enjoy your experience with Linux Mint 13. Both the MATE and the Cinnamon edition were built with the highest quality of integration and will be supported until April 2017.
MATE 1.2
Linux Mint 13 "Maya" MATE Edition
Until Linux Mint 11, the main edition featured a "Gnome 2" desktop. In the last two years, Gnome 2 was discontinued and abandoned by its development team and a majority of Linux distributions. Developers in the Linux community gathered and joined forces within a new project, called MATE, to save the Gnome 2 desktop. The latest Gnome 2 codebase was renamed and MATE now provides the same desktop as Gnome 2 under a different name.
Pros:
MATE is stable and it works on all computers
MATE is among the most productive and easy to use desktops available.
MATE continues where Gnome 2 left off and introduces its own incremental improvements.
MATE comes with support for mintMenu, mintDesktop, Compiz and everything that made Gnome 2 the most popular Linux desktop.
MATE is built with GTK2, it features more themes and integrates with more applications than any other desktop.
Cons:
Some parts of Gnome 2 were not migrated to MATE yet and a few aspects such as Bluetooth support might not work as well as they did with Gnome 2.
Cinnamon 1.4
Linux Mint 13 "Maya" Cinnamon Edition
Cinnamon was born for the same reasons as MATE. Gnome 2 was one of the core components of Linux Mint, and Gnome 3 lacked the features and design of a suitable alternative. Linux Mint started by developing the extra features it needed on top of Gnome 3 and eventually started to develop its own environment called Cinnamon.
Both Linux Mint and the MATE project came up with really good alternatives to Gnome, but in completely different ways.
Cinnamon is built on Clutter and Gnome 3. It's a modern-looking environment with a traditional and familiar desktop. It features compositing, animations and some unique innovations but it relies on 3D acceleration, lacks some of the features found in Gnome 2 and isn't yet compatible with every graphics card available on the market.
Pros:
Cinnamon is among the sleekest and most modern looking environments
Cinnamon features innovative features and emphasis on productivity with traditional desktop metaphors
Cinnamon is built on rapid technologies and its development pace is really fast
The Cinnamon community is very active, and produces a lot of new themes and applets
Cons:
Cinnamon requires 3D acceleration and might not work well for you, depending on your graphics card and/or drivers.
Cinnamon is brand new and unfortunately not yet as stable as more mature and established desktops such as MATE, KDE or Xfce.
Cinnamon relies on Gnome 3 and Clutter, which are also both brand new and going through rapid transformations.

Another reason I like to support Ubuntu/Canonical/Shuttleworth-

Despite the emotional backlash re: Unity, AFAICT, Shuttleworth has never shown he wasn't one of the "good guys", one of the new breed of entrepreneurs trying to build a business model based on FOSS principles and ethical practices.

What GPU and driver are you using when Flash crashes?
What version of Flash?
Are you using 32bit or 64bit Ubuntu 12.04?

It was only last Fall that 64 bit Flash was ironed out in Ubuntu. Prior to that, 32bit FLash was used with a wrapper
http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/10/flash-ubuntu-64-install-easily-1110
Are you using 64 bit Firefox and 64 bit Flash?
I suspect if you switched to Ubuntu 32 bit and all 32 bit Firefox/Flash the issue would go away.

Same here on Scientific Linux 6.2 (64 bit) with latest Seamonkey and latest LTS Firefox and latest Flash, so I don't think it's Ubuntu specific.
And I thought it was specific to my setup or to the ATI fglrx drivers I use on this box.
Since you are using Nvidia and me ATI it can't be a xorg driver issue, also as I said I'm using SL6.2 with plain Gnome2 (so no 3D desktop) so it looks like a general issue across distros and graphics drivers/GPUs.

I don't think it's a general 64 bit flash issue (it might be specific to recent releases of flash though), older versions of 64 bit flash 6-8 months ago where working just fine.

Thanks for the links; and also the many useful posts you and others have done in this thread.
Easiest way is likely to be to just simply load it and find out.
The x64 .iso is 3GB and took 1 hr 50 min to d/l.
