Thin/Flat Speaker wire for Surround Speakers?

I need to run speaker wire under an area rug for my surrounds. Going through the wall or baseboard isn't an option since it is a rental. Any suggestions? I know Nordost makes flat cable, but I am not spending $750 on surround cable.

Thanks!

I used some flat white cable ( I think I bought them from Best Buy) which has adhesive on one side. The cable is actually flat solid copper & not strands. It was expensive ( compared to monoprice) , but not $750 expensive

I think years ago I bought some flat speaker wire from RatShack.

Google "flat speaker wire." There are tons of hits for everything from fairly flat to superflat with an adhesive side. The prices I see are mostly reasonable depending on the length of your run (heck, even the MonsterCable flat wire for a short run doesn't break the bank), especially compared to the Nordost stuff. I don't know what "the cheapest" is as I haven't had a need for this kind of wire in a long time, nor do I know of the best source to buy it in bulk.

I've used this for my shakers in the couches.

My under rug solution was based on 100 conductor computer ribbon cable. 50 fine gauge wires in parallel have the approximate copper content of 12 guage wiire.

I wired alternate strands into plus and minus, reducing inductance. I soldered ordinary 12 gauge speaker cable to the ends for ease of termination.

I've used both with good results.

I was going to recommend some Tributaries flat speaker wire, but it appears that they have discontinued the two types I was familiar with. They only carry a silver plated OF 14 awg flat type now (403 strand version). It runs about $2.50 a ft., so not cheap, but probably pretty good, and will experience very little loss over a long run. Only downside, if not running it under carpet, or through walls, is that it now uses a clear jacket, which might not be as attractive as their discontinued white jacket models. I'm using their old plain copper stuff, lol, that was maybe a wee bit cheaper, but which I love. Now that I know it is no longer made I'll have to really take care of it.
