Everything in COD4 was about balance. Hate snipers? Then MP5 + silencer + bomb squad + UAV jammer + dead silence = the perfect stealth/ninja class to find & elimate them! You could also use extreme conditioning instead of dead silence, if you needed to get across the map fast! Even replace UAV Jammer with juggz to avoid the one-shot kills of snipers!
Infinty Ward knew exactly what they were doing when they created COD4. The nailed the 5 most important features of a FPS (Connection/Lag, hit detection, spawn points, good maps & gun balance). It then went on to nail other major selling points that made the game infinitely playable & enjoyable (Custom classes, Killstreaks, 60fps, DLC). These are all reasons why I consider COD4 the best game ever and the game that I have more than any other game ever. As a '70s child that means that I grew up thru the golden age of gaming and have put many of hours into the most popular titles & consoles.. which makes COD4 standout even more. Hell I was playing Mike Tyson's Punchout just yesterday on one of my "test" machines at work.. made it all the way up to the SandMan before I lost. I have some emulators & rom's that allow me to bring back the good ole days on pretty much any Windows PC.
Anyways. I liked ole' Juggz because it was part of the what made the game so well balanced. Think about balance. If there were perks to make you increase the power of your weapons (i.e. stopping power).. there should be a perk to counter than and make you increase the power of your health.
In any COD objective game (Dom, HQ, S&D) you are either playing offense or defense. Generally speaking, if you are playing offense (trying to capture a point) then you want to increase the power of your weapons. If you are playing defense you want to be able to survive as long as possible.
Now martyrdom was kinda cheap.. butt also had its value. Using martyrdom & juggz guaranteed that a noob playing the game could even get kills.. how many times did you see someone get ZERO kills on COD4? Hardly never. How many times have you seen people get zero kills on every other COD.. especially a bunch of noobs playing against an excellent veteran team. I've seen plenty of people get 50+ kills and NEVER die in MW2. The most important "balance" that martyrdom brought to COD4 was that it essentially to eliminated camping for kills. Martyrdom really only affected stationary players & those players camping for cheesy kills to get killstreaks!
As long as you kept moving around the maps, martyrdom was never a problem. You wanna hide in a corner and shoot people as they walk by? Well you might have killed me by surprise, but dont worry I've left a little gift for you from Allah
