So AVS what would you do? Sony XBR929, LG LM9600, Sharp 945

Ok guys, there are some good prices out on the 929 right now. I've also been informed sony is going to strictly enforce a no or minimum discount policy on their top tier models beginning very soon.

I'm interested in 55 or 60 inch models, do not have room for a 65. I was close to getting the 55 929 earlier this year, decided to wait for CES. The Sharp 945U caught my attention, however, now it's a question mark as to whether or not it will come out. I called my local video shop and they said Sharp is non committal.

The other full array w/local dimming option is the 55 LG nano LM9600 which looked good but I am curious as to how many zones it will have, will the processing be respectable and how about the overall fit/finish of the product? LG has been really hit or miss in this regard in years past.

I can either spring for the Sony as soon as tonight or hang tough for a few months to see what transpires but potentially miss a great price in the 929.

Thoughts and recommendations appreciated.

Have you looked @ the Sharp Elite 60" ?

I was about to pull the trigger on a 60" sammy 8000, but have now decided to wait for the sharp 945. Not really willing to spend the cash for an elite. If the 945 is as good as they say it will be a money spent and alot cheaper

Yeah, not spending that kinda $. I can basically buy 2 929's for the price of the Elite.

I'd much rather buy really really good today and buy really really good again in a few years then excellent now and still ahve technology surpass me by 2016 or 2017 ya know...

That was my plan but with Sharp talking about pulling the plug on it, I don't wanna be up the creek...

If I were you I'd go with the LG or Sony. I am looking into getting the LM9600 fo myself, but as you said, no one will really know how good it is until it comes out.

Sony always makes great TV's, but you should try to wait it out until next month, when you can see the Sony and the LG side by side.

Is the LG coming out next month and is there any pricing announcement yet?

Yeah that's why I went with the 632 80" Sharp ..Over the Elite .. 3D is a no-go for me ( don't want it ) & I got a heck of a deal on the 80"
PQ is fantastic on the 632 once it's dialed in ..

The LM8600 came out this month and the OLED comes out in May, so it makes sense that the LM9600 would come out next month. It's rumored to come out on April 9th. However, I have also heard rumors of an August release.

The prices can be seen here: http://flatpanelshd.com/article.php?...&id=1332421033

I have looked hard at the 929, just a couple random thoughts.

I have seen the 60" Elite for about the same price as the 65" 929 so if you were looking at the 65" 929 there is not much of a price difference.

The 65" 929 has a really thin Bezel, in terms of over all size it's not much bigger than a lot of the 60" sets you might look at because of this fact.

The 945 is what I was hoping for I really want a 70" and the 70" Elite is just more than I can spend it it were maybe $1300 less I could likely swing it. With all the rumors swirling that the 945 got cancelled I am not sure what to do myself.

The 745u/7450u are still an unknown quantity, the one I saw at Frys did not have the dark corners issue of the 735u, uniformity looked fairly good and I did not see any obvious DSE, however I did not have control of the source, and the 2 sets were seperated by about 100 feet, one was under direct lights, and one was in a darker area so it's really hard to compare.

My biggest questions about the 745/7450 sets are the Black Levels and Viewing Angles, if those come up comparable to the 735u, It's likely I will grab one as my next set.

I don't have room for a 65, I did the measurements again last night, no way in hell. A 60 is pushing it...

If you buy from Best Buy and are a Silver Rewards Member, you have 45 days to return if there is something wrong (otherwise 30 days). So you would be able to check uniformity.
