Planning for new 5.1 / 7.1 setup

Hey everyone.

So we just had a new entertainment center built into our home. We have a new TV on order as well (LG 55LM7600). Currently we have a somewhat pieced together 5.1 setup.

What I am wanting to do is get rid of all of this and setup a 7.1 system. Optimally this would all be setup in the ceiling as to not take up any floor space. The room also isnt super big and speakers sitting everywhere would just be crazy for us; especially with 3 kids.

This is a pretty crude drawing of the living room. I will get a better one posted this evening with accurate measurements.

The couch sits right against the back wall. How would this effect placement of the rear speakers?

Basically the question of the hour is...how would you make a 7.1 setup work in this setting?!

With the couch against the back wall, you can pretty much throw a 7.1 setup out the window. And, in ceilings aren't going to work with that setup either.

Check the PSB in-wall speakers, such as the CW383 and CW363. Avoid ceiling speakers, and stick with 5.1.

It is next to impossible to get the acoustics to work worth a damn with ceiling speakers, or 7.1. Sound coming from the ceiling is all wrong.

You can't move in-wall speakers around to fine-tune the acoustics like you can with regular speakers, so the complexity of 7.1 makes no sense. You will end up with muddled sound if you try it.

Ok...so 5.1 would be better in this case.

Would a 5.1 setup work in ceiling and in this room?
