Media Center not detecting Tuner (Hauppauge 2250)

Thread Starter
I recently purchased and installed a Hauppague 2250 in my PC (W7 SP1 Home Premium 64 bit, i7 2600k, 16GB RAM). I've installed the latest drivers from Hauppague's website and while Hauppauge's WinTV 7 software works fine (plays TV - analogue cable via coax from the wall) and the tuner accurately shows up in Device Manager, Media Center doesn't detect the card (gives "Tuner not found" message). I've tried nearly every combination of driver/software from the links on Hauppauge's site ("WinTV v7 installation package, version 2.5"; "22xx_7.9.1.29297.exe" which is the alleged Windows driver, and the 29mb "Windows Media Center driver installation package"), I installed every Windows update (including SP1), and even moved the PCI slot it was plugged into.

I've searched around AVS and found one other instance of this (can't post links thread ID: 1197551") issue but unfortunately no solution was found.

Any ideas as to a way to fix this problem? Appreciate any help or suggestions.

Hmmm, shutdown, unplug, remove the card.

Uninstall drivers related to the card, shutdown, remove card.

Reboot, install drivers for the card, shutdown.

Re-install card, fire Windows back up and it should find it...

Thanks for the response. I tried it (steps listed below) but unfortunately MC still isn't detecting it.

1. Turn off PC, remove tuner card.
2. Turn on PC. Used Hauppague's HCWclear.exe program to remove all traces of drivers, reg entries, and applications from my computer.
3. Reboot computer, install drivers from the WMC driver installation package from Hauppauge's website.
4. Turned off computer, reinserted tuner card.
5. Powered on computer and fired up MC, click "Live TV Setup," still says "Tuner not found."

Gotta another PC you can test it in?

Unfortunately I don't. Don't know anyone else with a desktop either.

Think the card could be defective even if I can watch TV in the WinTV app fine?

So WinTV works but the Windows Media Center drivers don't? Try this - http://1geek1tool.com/colossus

Yes, WinTV works fine but WMC consistently displays the "Tuner not found" message no matter which drivers I install.

As to the link you provided, do I need to install both DVBLink Server 4.0.1 and DVBLink for Colossus 4.0 Beta 2 or instead should I be installing the two downloads on this (http://1geek1tool.com/hdpvr/download) page since I don't have the Colossus?

Also, just tried BeyondTV and it had no issues detecting the tuner card either. Not sure if it's related or not but the HD channels (marked as HD in BeyondTV and are normally HD when using a regular TV) appear to be SD. Not the end of the world though. Very odd that MC is the only program that can't seem to see it.

dj4monie,

So I've played around with DVBLink a little more but got stuck. I downloaded a zip called dvblink_tvsource, extracted it, and ran the group installer. From the GUI in my web browser I was able to add my tuner as a source. I set is as "active" but the next step on the instructions was to add my TV provider (Comcast) but it only lists European providers from the drop down menu. Says to if my provider isn't listed I'll need to manually create a file for this. After looking at the process required to do that I figured I better hold off until I know exactly what needs to be done (it was rather intimidating for a novice like myself).

OMG. I got it working!

So just as I was getting ready to return the tuner, I decided I'd google the issue again using slightly different search terms. After a few pages, I came across this post where the guy describes a similar issues. Just as I was about to close the page seeing as there weren't any responses, I saw he had found a solution and provided it at the bottom of his post. See step 4 on this page by HP. I set it to local as instructed and from then on MC had no issues finding my tuner.

Appreciate your help dj4monie. Glad I was able to find a solution for if anyone else runs into this issue.
