Recommendation under $400 for mostly TV, some Movies HSU, Monster Cable, BIC PL 200

I have wf-34 fronts, matching center and surrounds and onkyo 707
http://www.klipsch.com/wf-34-floorstanding-speaker

20x15 and double height ceiling living room which opens up to kitchen on the side that faces TV and foyer on left side of TV

I am looking for Sub under $400 that will complement this setup. I am looking for sub to enhance dialogues and does not care about shaking the house or music. Mostly TV and rare movie watching.

To match rosenut speakers I am leaning towards
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Monster-Cabl...#ht_1098wt_931
specs at
http://www.shop.com/Monster+Power+TH...98016-p+.xhtml
The sub is beautiful and I am pretty sure it scores high on WAF.

I know I am asking for the trouble by mentioning overprices stuff from Monster Cable but I think their products are good quality just overpriced.

I other options I have is obvious choices like HSU VTF1,BIC F12,BIC Pl200,PA-120, omni -s12 considering my needs. Outlaw, elemental design, epitomik etc are out of leagues I guess.

Other idea is spread out 6.5 " insignia with small foam factor all 4 corners of the room
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Insignia...&skuId=2337715

I have been trying ebay, audiogon and classifieds at AVS without any success to get any decent sub shipped to NJ

Is it necessary to stick with just 12" driver or 10" will be enough

Pl pl dont judge me by mentioning ignisia, Monster along with SVS, HSU in the same sentence but my requirements are not stringent so pardon me if I committed sin

Every cent you spend on Monster is wasted. Yes, it's decent stuff, but you can get the same quality for 1/10th price elsewhere. IMO, Monoprice is where it's at. The Monster Power stuff is not nearly as big of a rip-off as the cables, but you can still get the same or better power conditioning/surge protection for less.

There are lots of sub-$400 subwoofers out there from reputable makers, I 'd recommend that over some kind of quad-sub setup using cheap mini-subwoofers.

How about this $375 (shipped) subwoofer:

Or one of these:

Heck, check the "Subwoofers under $300" thread tacked at the top of this forum. There are dozens of subs that fit your budget.

How will the sub enhance dialogue? You already have towers that are rated down to 50hz. LOL

Tom every sub you recommended would be significantly worse than the 12" monster power subwoofer OP linked on Ebay. Those 8" subs are pretty weak, and polk subs are dismal. As to monster being beat by monoprice. I buy tons of things from monoprice. I've probably spent > $1000 there in cables for myself, friends and church. That said - I'd take any monsterpower cable over any monoprice cable if the prices were the same - without a single exception that I've ever seen. Monster makes a good product at a over inflated price. Monoprice makes a fair product at a unreasonably cheap price. For most everything it doesn't matter - which is why I keep hitting monoprice, but I've had several monoprice cables fail and it's a rarity indeed to see a monster product fail. I personally have not heard the Monster subwoofer, but it's 81lbs and THX rated, with a 200 watt amp. It won't be dismal like that polk subwoofer, and it'll have a lot more output than either of those 8" subs.

OP stay away from those crap 6.5" subs - they wont' do aything for you, except waste your money when compared to the typically highly recommended alternatives.

If you want to go cheap and want multiple subs - I'd recommend a couple BIC F12s. They won't hit anything below 30Hz, but they have plenty of output and they are fun for general use.

I never intended to claim that Monoprice was superior or even equal to Monster. If I came across that way, it was unintentional. I've dealt with both and had one failed Monoprice cable and several power supply failures on Monoprice HDMI powered splitters. Radio Shack universal power supplies solved my problem. Monster is superior, but not for the money. If you're worried about reliability, buy two from Monoprice and rest easy with a spare on hand and money in your pocket.

Good point about the subs, too. I'm leary of eBay in general and the auction linked has ended. I'll defer to you on subwoofers though, as I can see from your signature links that you have a lot more hands on experience with a much wider range of subs than I do.

What does "double height" equate to in feet? The total cubic feet of the room is critical to properly sizing a subwoofer.

Is the WAF aspect associated to the appearance of the sub, it's size, both perhaps? Just trying to get a better understanding if it's the finish that qualifies as WAF, or maybe the size instead.

"epitomik"? I'm not familair with them. Who makes those? Or is that supposed to be Epik perhaps?

I'd caution against doing that. A 6.5" driver is simply not going to provide anything with regards to output or extension, so getting the Insignia's would more than likley be just wasting your money.

Why wouldn't they ship to NJ? It's a crappy state -- I know, I live their -- but that shouldn't prevent UPS and FedEx from shipping something.

yup, I agree. I had a couple of those in a room slightly bigger and they were very adequate.

Now, I have a couple of Premier Acoustic PA-120 and I like them better. I think they'll go a tad deeper than the F12 and they look much better (better fit and finish) and if you care, they weigh more. You could get 2 PA-120 for under your budget.

cheers

Size and finish, personally I dont want 12" huge box in my living room with Klipsch which has nice rosenut finish. I am atleast expecting glossy finish (i know i have to double my budget to get cabernet finish)

emotiva and epik, sorry confused both, actually epik may be out of my budget and so does emotiva

i do realize that it only goes 50hz

lot of autogon items and local pickup on craigslist is out of my reach, probably people in jersey are just too happy with polk subs

So the room is 20x15x20 then? If so that's 6000 cubic feet, a rather substantial amount of space. For something that size you should probably look at 15" or 18" subs instead - anything smaller might get swallowed up by the room.
