Right/left balance controls on Pioneer

This will make some people laugh at such a stupid question but here goes. My U-verse DVR and Samsung HDTV are connected to my Pioneer VSX 820 receiver. When watching TV I'm only getting sound out of one speaker. Both speakers play fine with DVD's and CD's so it's not a speaker wiring problem. I tried switching cable connections from left to right, and I get sound from one speaker each time. But never both. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How is U-Verse connected?

Could be a bad connection, or it could be the U-Verse box.

Somewhere in your DVR menu should be setup instructions. Make sure it is setup for stereo.

..as opposed to the "just one channel at a time" mode?

If the audio follows the cable swap, it points to a bad cable....this is not difficult to troubleshoot.

Can you reverse the channel wiring, left and right, in and about the TV and the DVR?


That's a very modern receiver - are you currently attaching it via HDMI?
