LG PASSIVE LM6200 dedicated thread... - Page 24

To gss175:

You can change the 3D setting on the TV. I think the default is "Normal" which doesn't show that much of a difference. "Extreme" is the largest difference. I find the "Sport" setting to be a good choice for 3D.

I also just bought the 47LM6200 for $489 and I have one kinda major problem. IDK if my specific setup is causing problems so here it goes. We have directv and the main media center receiver is downstairs on a Sharp TV and there is an extender box upstairs connected directly to the LG TV via supplied HDMI1.4 cable. I also have an LG 3d blu ray player attached to the TV via a 1.4 high speed HDMI cable I purchased.

Well the problem is my 3d keeps getting screwed up when I switch channels or the input. The TV gets a line down the center and displays the same image on either side of the screen. Once this happens EVERY channel/input will looks like this and have the same image on either side. Even on 2D channels. I have tried hitting the 3d button and messing with every setting. The ONLY way to fix it is unplug for a minute, let the caps drain, and plug it back in.

Oh, and this doesnt happen EVERY time, but probably around 30% of the time. So you can imagine what its like watching TV and about every 4-5 channel switches it happens.... :-|

Now with a little more research I see that Directv uses side by side to send the 3d. So I guess it is the TV thats losing its brains and not putting it in 3d. Instead, showing my the sent signal of the two images side by side. Im guessing this will need to be exchanged? I got it 3 days ago.

Hi all,

Just got this set and hooked it up to my denon avr-1612. For the life of me, I cant figure out why I cant get my surround to work.

Here's my setup:
HDMI1 - Cable
HDMI2 - 360
HDMI3 - PS3
optical out from the tv goes straight into the optical in for my receiver, shouldn't this be correct?

Am I missing something?
The problem is not 3D - it is the resolution in 3D which is an inherent problem in passive 3D. No fix there...

I try to choose between this set and 46" Samsung UN46ES6150 from Sam's. I got Samsung a couple of weeks ago and on Time Warner cable receiver PQ in standard definition is suboptimal (HD is acceptable). Can anyone tell me about PQ in SD on LG set?

I was hoping it would not be that obvious.
Or is that just me?
Or do I not have it set up properly ? ? ?
I watched my Tron disc on a friend's Sony, and then on my 65LM6200. As far as resolution goes, I really didn't notice. I actually expected it to be apparent given that my set is ten inches larger than his. What I did notice was the lack of crosstalk on my set vs. his.

Hi. I got my 42LM6200 yesterday, the installed firmware is 03.21.12 and I want to update it to the latest firmware available. LG page shows only Software_File(Version_04.12.23).zip, where can I find this 4.20.18? Thanks.

I have the denon avr-1312 and encountered the same issue. It turns out that the lm6200 does not output surround from the optical, just stereo. However I believe your amp supports arc, I know mine is too low to have that feature. In case you don't Know arc allows you to return the audio back though the output hdmi. So you'd want to hook up your devices into the receiver and the output from the receiver to hdmi 1 (arc) on the tv. Then you'll be able to get surround with your devices and surround from your tv.

Maybe you need to change to AC3 in the service menu?

Does anyone know how I can get a quick 'night' settings or low brightness setting? Looking to not alter any of my settings, but lowering the brightness as much as I can when watching at night.

And the audio output DOES transmit DTS and Dolby D to my receiver via HDMI. I had to change settings in my PS3 and Xbox 360, but now they both transmit surround via the digital out from the lm6200.

Hi Guys,

ARC works, but doesn't do me any good for the other devices, only for device in HDMI1.. and netflix and the apps weren't getting transferred into my receiver.

Ended up getting a 4 device rca universal remote, and followed the steps in this thread:
http://www.avsforum.com/t/1421119/solution-found-dts-passthrough-for-lg-xxlm6200-models#post_22569948

There wasn't a new firmware on the engineering mode, but if you're on the latest AC3 should show up in the EZ Advanced menu.

Fixed my issue, getting 5.1 from all my hdmi inputs now.

DRM making folks jump through hoops, atleast it's all fixed now..

Cheers.

It became available through the set itself. I have the 65" and am in the U.S., your market may vary.

Thanks. I didn't mean settings, but a quick way to turn brightness down at night.

Turns out I can do this via the quick menu and turning energy saving to maximum. Preserves all my settings and just turns down the back light. You can even turn the screen off in this menu, so I'll be using the tvfor lots of music streaming.

Should I uncheck 1080p output in the PS3 with this TV?

I read the TV might handle upconverting better than a PS3, and to uncheck 1080p for that reason, but I can't decide when I test it.
Don't uncheck 1080p especially if you're using your PS3 as a Blu-ray player

Ok, thank you.

Ok thanks. I already successfully updated the firmware to 04.12.23 yesterday. I'm from the Philippines, btw.

Skype appeared after I updated the "LG TV Remote" app (iPhone), but it won't open it unless a camera and microphone is connected.

Would an ordinary webcam works for this feature? Thanks again!

These 2012 TVs are designed to work with this LG webcam AN-VC400: http://www.lg.com/uk/support-product/lg-AN-VC400#

It's difficult to find information about using any third-party webcams. I think this design seems pretty proprietary and am not super excited about Skype on the TV for that reason. But at least you can feel comfortable that the above model is designed to be compatible.

Can someone explain what the following two LM6200 settings do. That is, what is the visual result of turning them on compared to leaving them set to off?

Dynamic Contrast
Super Resolution

Thanks.

Dynamic Contrast
Super Resolution
Thanks.

Dynamic Contrast ends up crushing blacks so keep it off and Super Resolution adds artificial lines to the picture to make it appear to be crisper and it also runs the image through a filter which they say diminishes overexposure, this you also want to keep off.

Thanks. I knew most here recommend leaving them off. You explained what Super Resolution actually does (and why it is undesirable). Can you also explain what Dynamic Contrast actually does? The word "dynamic" makes it sound like it changes contrast levels on the fly, based on picture content at any particular moment. It that right?

Are there any highly recommend routers that don't disconnect with this Smart TV?

I have an old DIR-655 that works great for everything else, but has sporadic disconnection problems with this TV. I might look into buying a new router, if I can verify that this TV never disconnects from it.

I am in the US and I have a 65lm6200. I recently upgraded FW to 4.20.18 and I noticed the TV is extremely slow in response to remote control input, ex. switching video source. Has anyone experience the slowness of your TV after the FW upgrade? I would like to downgrade to a previous version, are there any instruction available?

Thanks

Same set, and am in the U.S. as well. I can't say I've noticed this though, sorry.

The one thing I have noticed is a green outline around dark edges on a camera pan or motion scene. It doesn't always happen, but occurs maybe 10% of the time. You can frequently see it between the forehead and hair, provided the actor has dark hair. It happens on multiple sources and with or without trumotion or cinema mode engaged.

I had this problem but my router is located in an office some distance from tv, but all my other wifi devices were still able to connect from same distance so I bought a wifi extender and it has helped quite a bit. I put it in the spot close to where the tv is located. as an added plus, I now get a strong wifi signal in my backyard area.

Thanks I will keep that in mind for the future. I'm not sure at the moment, because they are both very close in the same room. I think it is a firmware type of problem.

I'm sure I will find someone with this TV though that has a very good compatible router that they love. Or maybe I can test and return one myself if it doesn't help.

Anyone notice sometimes the video lags or slows down a few frames before catching up again and becoming smooth? This is my first LED and dont know if this is just a common issue. I thought it was a Tru Motion thing, but it seems to happen with the setting on or off.
