Using a Sony videocam with HI8 tape we're videoing the entirety of our house and contents for insurance purposes and a worst case potential of loss through wildfire (Evergreen, CO).
Once complete, we'll have probably 8+ hours of tape. To be of use post loss we'd need the ability to watch the tape in slowed motion, stop motion and probably create single images to research the current ~$/item(s).
I'm thinking the only efficient way to do this is to have the tape converted to digital media and then use one of many opensource editing applications.
