Forcing 3D

My family insists that we watch some 2D movies in 3D. Can you please tell me at what level I should be "forcing" 3D. I have a Panasonic 65VT30 TV which is capable, and a Panasonic DMP-BDT220 BD player which I understand is also capable of doing this. Which is the better option and why?

I've found the 2D to 3D feature works best in action oriented material where there is a lot of stuff moving around on the screen. Things like talk shows, it just looks weird. A lot can depend on the cinematography (e.g. shaky "Bourne Identity" style camera play might not work so well.)

I have a Samsung 3D display and a Samsung 3D player. I don't know if this helps any at all but I tend to use the display's 2d to 3d capability. It seems more direct to not involve the player. Actually I never thought to test each way to do it. Both components are top of the line but the display is a 2010 model and the player is 2011. So maybe the player would do better. I'll have to test that out. Maybe the most up to date, high end component is the way to go.
