For the users of the Netgear WNDR3800 routers Netgear recently updated the firmware after a long and exhaustive test phase. For those new the router had an issue where some experienced client drop off with certain devices under certain conditions. This affected few folks and was not wide spread but clearly there was an issue for some.
Netgear engineering had been working this issue for months and has identified and fixed the issues that had affected some users. Below is a letter from Netgear Product Management that they have asked I post to address the new firmware.
In addition to the firmware Netgear has also released the Mac OS version of the ReadyShare Cloud Software which is current a unique feature of the 3800. This new software for Mac OS can be downloaded at

Dear WNDR3800 customers,
Some of you have faced the WiFi disconnect problem in the last few months on the 2.4 Ghz frequency band. There were a few situations with Intel clients and Android smartphones in heavy traffic the WiFi devices were disconnecting from the router. We have resolved the problems. Our engineering team was working with many of you to debug the problem and work on a fix. Thanks for supporting and helping us.
Please download the latest firmware from the following website, or use Desktop Genie App (www.netgear.com/genie) to upgrade your routers. Alternatively you can log in to the router interface routerlogin.net and upgrade your wndr3800.

The following symptoms have been resolved.
1: if customer’s wireless environment is noisy or heavy traffic, the EAPOL (Extensible Authentication Protocol over LAN) WiFi packet might be lost between Router and wireless client communication, and after the timeout value is expired the wireless is disconnected.
2: if customer’s wireless environment is noisy or heavy traffic, the router might not be able to send out a WiFi beacon, then the router will reset the wireless driver For some Intel wireless clients (for example: Intel 5300), it is not happy to see too many time this reset and will send out "deauth" frame to router to cause the wireless disconnection.
3: We saw some Android Smartphone/Tablets wireless clients somehow will send out the wrong Associate ID to router, because router cannot recognize this ID, then router drop this wireless client.
Please feel free to post and comments or questions regarding the 3800.
