When checking the price, the price is way cheaper when compared to what Best Buy is offering.

For example Sharp is offering -

Quote:

Sharp

3 Year Sharp Extended Service Plan Repair Coverage for LCD TVs New Member Promo (2,500-3,499), EXT

Price: $179.99

I get the following from Squaretrade -

Quote:

Squaretrade
Item: LCD Flat-Panel TVs
Price: $3,300.00
3 year warranty
Your price:
$259.99

Best Buy is offering -
Quote:

Best Buy
2-Year Protection Plan
$399.99

Is Sharp extended service plan repair coverage good compared to others?

Yeah, I got the 3 year extended warranty from Sharp for my 70LE640U.

When I was researching the set, I read a lot of posts, mostly in the official 640U thread (a very long thread). The Sharp warranty was recommended many times, both for price and for Sharp's warranty service. Those who had to avail themselves of the warranty had praise for them.

I couldn't find anything as cheap. That fact, along with the consensus that Sharp warranty service was decent, made me comfortable in buying the 3 year plan from Sharp.

I haven't had any problems (thank goodness), so I can't say anything from experience about the service. But there you are. BTW, I'm very pleased with my TV.

Good luck.

Good to hear on both ends, 1) that Sharp's Plan is trusted and 2) that you haven't had to use it.

Does it pick up after the initial factory warranty or does it overlap the first year like the Square Trade plans do?

I'll have to dig it out and go over it. It's not easy reading, being chock-full of legalese. tongue.gif

AFAIK, it picks up after the first year, but I'll double-check.

[EDIT] It seems I was mistaken. The coverage is concurrent. The expiration date is 3 years after purchase, and overlaps the one year warranty. It's still a good deal, IMO.

Thanks for the follow up! Damn, why do they do that? Overlapping, double 1st year warranty, super...
