Best Powered Subwoofer on Crutchfield.com <$600

Ive got the speakers picked out, just need a sub. Which is the best on Crutchfield for less than $600? Or should I say, what is the best deal for no more than $600? I just need a good sub for a small to medium sized space. Current space is ~11 x 18 with an open kitchen juxtapose to it. May be moving into a bigger space soon, but not anything outside th typical city apartment/condo/townhouse realm. Thanks for your input.

Are you limited to Crutchfield or something? Gift card perhaps?

If it must be Crutchfield, I'd go with the NHT B-12d for an apartment.

The NHT B-12d is above $600. I've looked at the HSUs and they all have great reviews. Just wondering is I can get something cheaper that would suit my needs when I buy my speakers, which I think I'm going to buy from Crutchfield.
The NHT would be best but it's $700. IMO if you have to get the sub from Crutchfield and it has to <$600 than the Boston ASW650 at $500 is probably the best deal.

The Klipsch SW112 would be my next pick and they list one in the scratch and dent for $479.

Oztech is right. Get an HSU sub. They are much better values than what you can get at Crutchfield. Get the HSU VTF-1 MK2. It will be better than the subs costing $600 or less at Crutchfield.

Crutchfield is a bit overpiced for what you get in general. I agree that HSU is worth strong consideration

The reason I posted this thread was to basically verify whether or not I should buy my sub separate from my speakers from Hsu So, basically what everyone is saying is that the Hsu is far and away superior than everything offered on crutchfield and its worth buying separate and even paying more for potentially, given my listening space et al?

Yep. Crutchfield = Over priced.

Yes theres years of experience of been there done that.

I agree buy a sub from an Internet direct company.

Also what speakers did you pick out? Is it something that newegg.com or vanns.com or bhphotovideo.com sells? If it is those places are cheaper.

That's an incorrect assumption.

Crutchfield typically sells at MSRP. That does not make them "over priced".

They also offer free shipping to anywhere in the US including AK and HI. No other company does that save for Axiom and items sold directly by Amazon.

They also offer 60 day satisfaction guarantee. Most others offer 15 or 30 days.

They also offer free tech support and setup advice- pretty important for a lot of non technical people.

Where else can I get a 70" TV shipped to HI for free? Or a pair of Klipsch RF 7s shipped for free?

Shipping on those speakers from anyone else would be $500.

OK, I'm done.

Yeah you gotta weigh out things like that. But with that said may sites sell much under MSRP. I bought a TV from bhphotovideo.com MSRP $2,199 and I paid $1,486 free shipping and no tax.

Im buying PSB Image T6s, C5, and B4s. If there is a place that offers a better deal, I definitely am interested. But I thought all things considered, especially the free shipping, Crutchfield is a pretty good deal.

MSRP is a guideline, many legit sites sells way under MSRP.

I found 3 or 4 other sites like wwstereo.com and onecall that offers free shipping too. Crutchfield isn't anything special. Also Aperion Audio, SVS, Elemental Designs, and Emotiva offers free shipping.

But back to helping the OP, Internet Direct companies like SVS, Epik, Aperion, HSU and Outlaw off better bang for the buck than Crutchfield or Onecall does. You also get great customer service from HSU, SVS and the others with forum tech support, phone and email. Many times you can talk directly to the owner/ founder of the company like Dr. HSU who frequents the boards.

None of those vendors do 60 day trials.

None of those vendors don't discriminate against HI and AK by charging exorbitant shipping. Sure most of it is the shipper, but most of those vendors don't even bother attempting to find cheaper alternatives or give proper credit for the difference.

Vendors selling way under MSPR are usually selling b-stock, dinged or refurbed products.

Crutchfield discounts discontinued items as do others.

I'm big on Crutchfield because I don't get screwed on shipping.

You all talk about bang for the buck subs and what a great deal the FV12 or HSU VTF3 is, for me not so much.

The FV12 is nearly $800, the VTF3 nearly $1000, the SVS PC12- over a $1000.

Crutchfield adds their free shipping to ANYWHERE and is still able to sell at or below MSPR for many items, plus their return/satisfaction policy is as good as it gets.

wwwstereo.com- WTF is that? Probably some guys garage in Brooklyn no doubt.

http://www.wwstereo.com/

They are listed as an Authorized Klipsch, PSB, Monitor, Kef, Jamo, Dynaudio, and B&W.

And WOW don't take it so personal. The OP lives in WI not HI or AK so he can get great deals on Rythmik, SVS, HSU ect...

There are Rythmik, Epik, HSU, Outlaw, SVS, Emotiva that are within his budget that offer better performance than what he can get from Crutchfield. Crutchfield works out for some people great but like you said I live in the lower 48 and shipping is free so I can get better deals else where than Crutchfield.

AudioAdvisor. They are here in Grand Rapids where I am. I've used them and Crutchfield for speakers. Both are good vendors. Typically they are like Crutchfield and sell at MRSP with free shipping, but it wouldn't hurt to check. They also sometimes have clearance items that are good deals.

I just get a little riled over shipping charges. IMO way too many vendors make a "little" extra profit off of shipping charges to HI and AK, unfairly I might add.

And as for wwstereo.com being an "authorized" dealer there are over a hundred ID "authorized" dealers in Brooklyn alone for Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Olypmus etc....

and most are in someone's garage....

Anyone can register a domain and cut and paste GIFs

Bob and Rons World Wide Stereo is listed on manufacturers websites. They are a full retail store http://www.wwstereo.com/showrooms not exactly a garage in Brooklyn.

If it makes you feel better I have to pay and extra 6.5% sales tax on SVS products.

Well said. I might add that Crutchfield is an authorized dealer for everything they sell, and have one of the best support teams in the business. Sure, there are cheaper places to purchase high end electronics, but some still want a bit of reassurance, and you can't go wrong purchasing from Crutchfield. I've been doing so long before there was an internet, before they even had a catalog, and I've never been burned.

I have a personal policy - if I can save 30% or more buying from authorized internet dealers I will (with exception to ID of course). If not, I go to Crutchfield.
But there are plenty of other authorized retailers that have a better prices than Crutchfield.

I like crutchfield but sometimes they are priced alittle high.

As for subwoofer's you will get a sound quality per dollar spent by going with an internet direct company like HSU, Outlaw, or Rthymic

I'm pretty certain I'm going to go with Hsu. Thanks for everyone's help. Crutchfield will be getting my business on the speakers.

I'd take that any day over the $300 shipping charge.

That's what I'm going to end up doing as well. Just not sure which ID sub I'll end up with though.

Yeah, I purchased the Hsu VTF-2 MK4 a couple of months ago and it's awesome! In fact, it's so good that I'm thinking about turning it into a pair of subs by purchasing another one to go with it. My speakers came from other sources.

Good luck with your purchases and components...

I've not purchased many things from Crutchfield, but generally think of them as being a bit expensive on components. However, they do have good sale prices at times, and they usually have good information about various products on their website. In fact, I've often checked their website for product info before purchasing the same product elsewhere.
