How do I control my AVR-591 with my Panasonic 55gt30 remote?

I have an AVR-591 Receiver, and it has a PS3 and a cable box connected to it through two HDMI in ports. I have a single HDMI cable running from the HDMI out port on the receiver to a Panasonic TCP55GT30 HDTV. I have no other HDMI cables or other inputs or outputs (aside from a wireless dongle) connected to my TV.

I have two questions, and I'll provide a little more background as well.

1. How can I make it so that I can use my TV remote to control my Receiver--specifically change the inputs on the receiver rather than just the ones on the TV?

2. Is it possible for me to use my TV remote to control the cable box through the TV with everything set up the way I have it described above?

I was able to get ARC to work, and I managed to set it up to where I can use my Panasonic TV remote to power up and power down both the TV and the receiver at the same time. I can also adjust the receiver's volume with my TV remote. However, I would like to be able to change the inputs on my receiver with my TV remote. So if I want to play netflix on my tv and then switch to my PS3 or switch to my cable box, I need to be able to switch my receiver's inputs, and I'd like to do that with my tv remote. I can't seem to figure out what's going on. When I click the Viera Link button on the controller, I can change the Speaker Output to "TV" or "Home Theater," but I can't change the "Viera link control" setting at all. There's no receiver option. It only lets me fiddle with the network camera settings (which is strange because I don't have one). How can I or do I need to get the TV to recognize the receiver under this menu?

This is my first post, so please forgive me if I broke any etiquette rules. I tried to look for similar posts but didn't have any luck. Any help you can give is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Great. Thanks for your quick response. I forgot to mention that everything but my TV is in a cabinet and I want to close the doors, which is one reason why I wanted to control everything through the TV. If I buy the Logitech remote will I need to keep the cabinet doors open or is there a workaround?
