Why is there a K after the model number?

In Panasonic's naming convention the "M" and "K" in HC-V700MK mean "built in Memory" and "blacK". They couldn't use "B" for black because they use "B" for "British". By the way, "E" is for European smile.gif

Hope this is helpful,

Awesome thanks....I am ordering this unit tomorrow.

I am going to buy a UV filter as well (more for the lense protection than an actual filter), a 64g mem card, and an extra battery. Any other items I should consider? Shade?

Both have a "K". One has a "M" for internal memory. With SD cards, my view is that internal memory gets in the way of easy file transfer.

You've got the basics covered. If you do decide to get a lens hood/shade, it will be hard to find one wide enough not to vignette when your lens is zoomed out.

That said, here is what my camera looked like early on: Azden SMX10 Stereo Mic, 46mm-58mm step-up ring, UV filter from an inexpensive 58mm 3-filter set, and Mennon DV-s 58mm lens hood that I already had:

Good luck with your new camera!

Bill - where did you mount your mic in that pic? Is that mounted to the top of the lens hood? And I'm guessing go with the step-up ring prevented the vignetting with the hood and filters on and at wide angle?

The mic was mounted on the shoe mount adapter on the side of the TM900, as pictured here:

The shoe mount adapter for the V700 is at the rear of the camera, as pictured in the manual:

Sadly, no. One of the great things about Panasonic camcorders (especially the new ones, like the V700), is how wide the zooms are at the wide end. So, even with the step up ring, the Mennon hood still vignettes. So I put a 58-77mm step up ring and a 77mm matte box on my camera - you may not want to go to that extreme smile.gif

Does the MK version give you the option of not recording to the internal memory and saving directly to the SD card first?

Yes. And you can transfer back and forth from SD card to internal memory very easily.

What does vignette mean? I googled it and didn't find any reference to film or camcorders?

The outside edges look crappy.

Vignetting is a filmmaking term that dates back to the silent era. It was often done purposefully to create an effect:

Today, it is most often used to describe an unwanted "framing" effect cause by limitations of the lens or interference from an external lens hood.

Better definitions here:

Nope! I don't!!! smile.gif So here is where I stand so far on the accessories I ordered just to help out those that have the same spending bug I do....( I know I know use it for a while then start buying but I couldn't help myself!)

I ordered a Mennon 46mm lens hood - same issue with your 58mm and vignetting - solved by just tapping the zoom (it still says 1x, not quite to 2x) and vignetting is gone. If I need the full wide I can take it off pretty quickly and easily.

Extra batteries - I went with the Wasabi 180s and charger package for two reasons - 1) Amazon Prime - the bigger batteries weren't prime eligible at the time 2) I like having that smaller battery back there, it logistically is good for my thumb and the way my hand fits when holding. Not sure a bigger battery would give me that same comfort/ability, but regardless now I have 3 180 batteries and should have plenty of battery life if needed.

32gb SD card - pretty self explanatory

Vello Cold Shoe Extension - not sure I'm sold on this yet, the story continues with the next accessory.

160 LED dimmable light - So this light is huge...I mean huge...Even after watching the reviews on Amazon, mounting it up on the shoe on my v700 looks ridiculous. While it can seriously throw some light, I don't see it as practical on my v700 -my Canon 7D, maybe.... Plus it seems to wobble considerably in the shoe due to its heft - for that matter the accessory shoe adapter itself on the v700 doesn't feel solid - the first real downside I've seen to this camcorder. So when I put the Vello cold shoe extension on the shoe adapter on the v700, and then add the light on to that...forget about it...In addition it seems the orientation of the shoe on the light only works with the extension being parallel to the body of the camera, not perpendicular. I may be missing something here but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to either A) turn the mount on the bottom of the light 90 degrees or B) turn Vello extension to allow a perpendicular mount with the light facing forward. Maybe I was just tired and missed it?

Azden SMX-10 Mic - not here yet, bought it used from Canon forums.

So now it looks like I will be on the hunt for a smaller light and somehow try to figure out how to mount it so the light is forward, the cold shoe extension is perpendicular to the body of the camera and I can get the mic mounted on there also facing forward (once I get it!).

am - I agree that the V700's she mount adapter is in an unfortunate place on the camera. The adapter on the side of the TM900 isn't much better. That's why I bought a $9 Adorama C bracket instead of a $25+ Vello shoe extension. The C bracket gives you two cold shoes - and it attaches via the tripod mount. Looks a lot better on the camera:

Here it is on my GH2 with the rechargeable LED on top and an H1 recorder off to the side:

Hi all, I'm a new owner of the Panasonic HC-V700.

For my purposes, I need to be able to record the time including seconds onto the video. So far, I have only been able to record date and time (hh:mm) but not the seconds count.

The exact time does not need to be accurate (i.e. if there is a way to start recording from 00:00:00 (hh:mm:ss), that would be fine too). It is just important to be able to identify the exact second of the video, and it has to be imprinted on the actual video.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks!

Hi all! Just picked up this great camera, but I can't seem to get a clean hdmi output. The little red "iA" or grey "MNL" always displays when I'm doing HDMI out. Anyone else experience this? Is there something I'm missing to turn it off?
I believe you have to use the remote control 'display' button. It is the only way to eliminate the "dirty" HDMI output.
Thanks for the quick reply! I'll try it out in the morning- it's for a livestream event; you can imagine the reaction when I tested it out for the group's coordinators and they saw the stark red "iA" overlaid smile.gif

Last question- if I'm shooting indoors, what's the best way to run manual settings for an auditorium lit with LED's and low watt incandescent bulbs? I get a more yellowish look from the auto shoot- is that a white balance thing? I've never done video before, so any tips are GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks again!
You bet it's a WB thing - and auto WB is not a Panasonic strength. If the lighting is going to be constant you need before the event to point the camera - telephoto - at a white sheet that is lit by those lights and set the wb manually. You should only see the white paper in the viewfinder to do this. Of course, if the sheet is off-white, so will your wb be off.
Awesome! Thanks so much- can't wait to try it out. Actually sounds kind of fun! smile.gif

Quick Edit: Any idea what remote might work with the V700? No luck under "Accessories" on Panasonic's site, and there wasn't one in the box.

I'm getting married next week and bought this camcorder to have someone record my wedding ceremony outside. However after testing it, the audio, even in doors seems terribly low. Does anyone have a suggestion for a microphone that I can get through amazon prime? Also will I need anything extra to attach it? Would prefer if it's not super expensive. smile.gif

Thanks in advance,
No remote: I was going on what was true for the TM900, which comes with a remote. If there is no remote, you will have to go through the menu options and see if there is a 'display' option that turns off icons. I don't think there is an optional remote, as there would need to be an IR receiver.

Seriously interested in getting the V700, however, few questions still in my mind.
- does V700 only support NTSC recording system? Does it support PAL? Does it matter whether it's NTSC or PAL?
- Or does it have different product code for V700 that supports PAL?
- if i'm buying from B&H or Amazon, does it come with international warranty?

Appreciate any help or advise on this. Thanks in advance

cheezels, PAL or NTSC matters a lot if you ever intend to connect your camcorder to your TV. B&H sells a PAL version, but If you buy it from B&H (or from Amazon US), it will come with a US warranty, which may or may not be useful to you. Suggest you get it locally, if you can.

If you're in the UK, you can get it from Amazon UK here.

Thanks for your advice. I can't get it locally, thus I've got to source out country. I just noticed buying from US doesn't come with international warranty frown.gif
