Amazon streaming now on PS3 - Page 3

i do a lot of shopping (especially around the holidays) on amazon, so the prime membership paid for itself many times over. the fact that they offer you free streaming is just an added bonus. there is some overlap with Netflix, but it's a FREE incentive on top of a great service i already enjoy using.

there are items on there that aren't available elsewhere, so it's a nice way to fill out my streaming lineup. my daughter found a movie on there that we couldn't find elsewhere, and even though it was pay-per-view, i didn't mind. the quality was pretty great, too.

i was able to watch amazon content before through PlayOn, but i have to say this app is a MUCH better experience. i'm happy with it. just hope it finds its way to the xbox eventually.

Anybody know if this is only 720p- ie. even with the PS3 set at 1080p/i it won't do it?

I have my PS3 currently hooked up to my computer monitor and while everything else works fine at 1080p, this can only do 720p and just fits a tiny portion of my computer monitor.
I know MLB.tv was this way at first until an update finally fixed it. Wondering if anybody can confirm.

Sorry, I probably misspoke (mistyped?).
I know that Amazon content is 720p at the highest but can the app actually do 1080p? Basically, can it come in at 720p and upscale all my content to the native 1080 res of my monitor? Because otherwise, I get big black bars all around the picture frame.

Only the streaming content. I know on the TiVo which can't stream but can download, most of the content I've purchased is in 1080P24.

Was watching the free Misfits episode (everyone should check it out btw) and it stopped twice for what I presume buffering and offered to downgrade me to SD. Sorry, I'm on a 30 meg connection. That's not going to work. Back to iTunes.

Yeah I meant on the streaming content.

I believe the app is strictly 720p, any scaling will have to be done externally.

I could get the PS3 to send the audio correctly by unchecking audio options and forcing it to only output properly in stereo or 5.1 audio. But that would mean I would need to constantly mess with the audio settings which makes no sense. At least I can use my ROku for Amazon streaming. It doesn't have the issues that the PS3 has with the Amazon App.

I am using multichannel output, i have it set up in 5.1, even though i only use a 3.1 setup since there is no actual 3.1 option i use 5.1 i also have many other options selected but I show MULTI IN on my denon receiver when playing this

im on a crappy 4mb connection and i'm watching sons of anarchy in HD and it works fine, there are occasionall hiccups but nothing that makes it unwatchable

Ahh, thank you. That's the info I was looking for. Won't be a big deal when hooked up to the TV but with my monitor, I'm SOL.
Thanks for the info though.

I gave this a spin last night, and I gotta say I like what their doing. The interface is smooth, simple to navigate, and responds quickly. I tried out a couple TV shows, one each in SD and HD. The SD ran fine with the occasional hitch. The HD stream was fine until 3/4 of the way through, then it paused and gave a bandwidth warning. It asked to continue in SD, and played on without issue.

The only real downside is the rather sparse selection of content, both movies and TV. If they keep adding at a steady pace then it will be fine.

I have watched a few movies over the course of Saturday night and Sunday night. I was expecting some hiccups given some of the reports but it ran flawlessly for me. Absolutely smooth and no hiccups at all in HD. A few of the films looks a tad soft but overall not too bad for a stream.

I actually expected worse quality but it was better than my expectations. Since I was already a prime member anyway and would continue to be one without this I have to say for "free" it isn't too bad on a few of those nights where there just isn't a thing on and I want to maybe rewatch an older title that I don't have in my library.

I really am against the fact that they are putting everything through as DD 5.1 so I can't use Prologic with things that aren't surround.

I think anyone viewing the Amazon Prime streaming service as anything other than a bonus would be disappointed. As far as I can tell, the Prime streaming has never been marketed as "Hey, we're competing with NetFlix," but more so "Hey, here's a bonus for being a Prime member." It's certainly a nice bonus, but I was a happy Prime member before the free streaming.

I do like their catalogue of older TV shows. I grew up watching a Nickelodeon show called Hey, Dude, and I was surprised to find the first two seasons are free for Prime members. Time to take a trip down memory lane.

Im happy rewatching DS9 and Voyager. Prime is all about the shipping, the streaming is just a nice bonus.

Haha, that's so funny, my wife and I have started rewatching DS9 as well . The acting is a bit rough at the start (particularly Kira who overdoes everything 10x) but I remember it getting better as the show progressed.

A bit off topic, but I recently re-watched all the original Star Trek series, all the ST-TNG, then got about 15 episodes into DS9. I know it's opinion, and I know everyone has one, but boy DS9 was terrible. Too much like watching a soap opera for me.

I also tried revisiting the original Battlestar Galactica. It was even worse!

Might try watching Voyager, when it originally came out, I was a very busy person and never got the opportunity to watch too many of them.

These are where I get my value from Netflix, and now Amazon streaming. I don't have complaints about them not having new shows or movies, I get my value from watching older shows, movies, and enjoy the documentaries they offer.

Right now I'm watching the 2005 series of Doctor Who. Since I've never seen them, these are new shows to me.

We watched two movies last night on Amazon Prime streaming. I've just recently moved my home theater equipment from one living room to another, and haven't run my hard wire network into the new area yet. Even over wireless, the quality was extremely good.

I've been watching Amazon streaming for quite awhile on my Panasonic Bluray but yesterday I decided to load the ps3 app and compare. On the ps3 the picture was worse quality and it stopped a couple of times. My Panasonic never does that. It seems the ps3 app might need some fixing but its ok.

DS9 starts off very poorly, but the massive battles later on make it well worth the early crap. There are also a ton of plot points from TNG that get carried over. Stick with it and it will reward you.

Voyager I cant comment on as much since I only saw one Spike runthrough and missed quite a few episodes, but what I saw was pretty good.

The picture quality should be identical whether wired or wirless. Amazon and Netflix streaming does not use alot of bandwidth. Even a wireless G connection has no problem playing the highest quality stream..

A new patch for Amazon Video was pushed down via PS+. I have no idea what it was supposed to fix, but my Logitech Harmony One now works perfectly when pausing and playing video.

I had no problem with my Harmony One before with pausing and playing. Although I'll check this update out to see if they fixed the audio problem where everything is sent in a 7.1 wrapper.

EDIT: Crap. The update didn't fix the audio issue.

EDIT: the patch didn't fix the remote issue either. If I hit the stop (square) button on the Harmony One, I lose all remote control functionality other than the PS button to shut down the app. Very aggrevating.

That's weird. I exclusively use my Harmony One and have never had an issue.

Same here.

I've updated my Harmony recently, too. I don't know why the Amazon app dies when I hit the stop button just for me.

... and I still can't get any trailers or movies to play with this app. I was hoping the patch improved something, but it is still broke for me.

As I was already an Amazon Prime subscriber, I'm really liking this. Not just for the free stuff but they actually have a movie I wanted to see called God Bless America on there as a pre-theatrical release. Just got done watching it and not too bad. The movie itself wasn't as good as I'd hoped, but the quality of the audio and video was just fine.

The pre-theatrical release stuff on a VOD player is exactly what I've wanted for some time, I just hope they'll start doing it with some of the bigger pictures. I would love to be able to watch The Dark Knight Rises or Prometheus on my own home theater setup in July rather than having to slog to a crappy theater. I can dream.

I just signed up for Amazon Prime trial on an order I put in a few minutes ago.

I am curious on the free content (movies) there is available for Prime Members. I tried to look on amazon.com but it is hard to tell because what comes up as free is in the form of a featurette, interview, or bonus material that I am not really interested in.

Is there an easy way to navigate and see what FREE full feature movies, documentaries, and tv series it has?? Maybe, it will be easier to see when I look at the PS3? I just want to bypass all the extra one-offs and see what real content there is free for Prime members.

I like Amazon a lot but probably won't keep Prime past the month trial - I probably don't order enough to warrant the $79 and am generally fine with free shipping even if it takes a week.

Thanks in advance...
