OK, thanks. I think I'm going to replace my card with an HD7xxx card or an Nvidia one anyway.

On another note, does anyone know why graphics cards include Display Ports? I haven't seen many regular PC monitors to use this port and certainly haven't seen it on any high-end plasma or LED TV. From what I've heard it should be faster than HDMI 1.4, so why won't Panasonic include at least one Display Port with their GT and VT models?

There are no audio issues or any imperfections in the display.
The only problem is that any time I turn on the 3D function, the TV goes black and the power button flashes. I have to unplug the unit to reset it.
Picture quality: after only playing around with it for a few hours or so, I am not blown away with the picture. Image is very dull looking. I have not checked out bluray content yet but so far the winner is the Samsung. There is less screen glare with the Panny which is why I got the GT50. I will test a lot more this weekend and post some more.
Has anybody else had the 3D turn off issue?

Your set sounds defective. I don't experience this 3D issue with mine. As far as the PQ being dull looking that's really odd, the GT50 exudes one of the best pictures on the market. I've compared the Samsung E8000 and honestly didn't see much of a difference between either one in terms of PQ. Both looked amazing. Other than the GT50 having a slightly smoother picture they were both the same.
You should get an exchange.

I will definitely be returning it. (thanks Amazon) Not sure if I want to try another or just keep the Samsung.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a copy protection scheme like HDMI so they opt out. It's good for PC monitors that go above 1900x1080 res.

Just got shipping confirmation on my 60GT50, and it should arrive a week from today! I am stoked! This is my first foray into plasma so I am halfway between not being able to wait, but also a little nervous and feeling in the dark.

I will actually be moving in a couple of months so I am not sure there is any point to calibrating it out of the box, but what about break in? I may not ever even have it professionally calibrated, I just don't know. I am in the NYC area if someone can toss out a good recco.

For someone in my position, getting the brand new set and anxious to use it, but moving to a different environment in the near future, what would you all advise be the first say 2 or 3 steps I take with the panel? Run some break-in slides for the first 100 hours, then throw it in THX mode? That's my hunch, but like I said, I am a little lost here. thanks in advance for the guidance!

If you're going to have it professionally calibrated then don't run the slides.

If you're going to calibrate it yourself then don't runt the slides and do a tune-up when you think it's necessary.

If you're going to use D-Nice's settings then run the slides right, don't watch any tv or use the apps etc until after 100 hours of slides and then apply the settings, if D-Nice ever posts them. Be sure to read the directions for the 2012 settings before starting since you'll need to ensure that it;s in the right mode.

I intend to have mine calibrated much later and so I am just enjoying the view.

What mode are you watching tv in? Which blu-ray player are you using?

I'm not sure what you are asking. The 3D problem happens in all inputs with 3D or 2D content. I tried the 3D with Comcast ESPN 3D which worked fine with the Samsung plasma.

that is a helpful guideline, thank you. If I planned to use D-Nice's settings, but don't know if/when he'll release them I'll just run his slides to start but then do what in the interim? Can I just throw it in THX day/night mode and wait? Seems like that would be the healthiest option for the panel while providing the best image until in-depth settings are made public. Unless I am missing something completely.

Based on all the great info here, I just ordered one! Of course waiting is the hardest part. In the mean time, can anyone tell me the dimensions of the stand? Thanks!

All the slides do is age the pixels evenly, just as D-Nice did before calibrating his set. After the slides, while you wait, just watch what please you most. I have a bright room, and so I use both THX modes with a few minor adjustments, they're lovely.

In the second post of this thread is a link to the Quick Start Guide, on the second from last page you'll find all the dimensions.

Does anyone have any info on purchasing from Eastcoast TV (online)? They have an great deal on the 55''gt50 ($300+ cheaper than anywhere else) but they are not a "certified Panasonic dealer". People at the B&M stores are telling me that if i purchase from there, Panasonic wont even honor their 1 yr. manufacurers warranty. That sounds like it cant be true, and the website says it has man. warranty. The return policy doesnt sound all that great either though.

Any advice about purchasing from places like this would be helpful.

They have low prices but they also have horrible customer service and zero integrity. They fake their positive reviews (got busted several times) and they post fake glowing customer testimonials in their huge thread over at HDF that are completely opposite of what most real customers report. There's a few Youtube videos of their shady phone tactics too. If you want the lowest price and are willing to tolerate the crap, then good luck to you

Agreed, I almost bought my GT50 from them but when I called to ask a few questions they started off with their scare tactics about getting me to pay a lot extra for the "White Glove Delivery" which they said all they do is take it out of the box, plug it in to make sure it's working and that's it. If I didn't pay for this they would just drop it off on my curb regardless if I couldn't lift it inside my house. They will not even bring it to the front door. IMO the Better Business Bureau should require any retailer to at least deliver to your front door free of charge.

I would also like to add that I bought my TV through Abe's of Maine and they were MUCH worse. I didn't return the TV because it works perfectly and I don't want to go through the trouble of returning it. Sadly we get what we pay for.

Because of my bad experience with eastcoasttv I thought about canceling my order and buying it From Abes of main. but based on you experience I wasn't better off. Thanks for the info Hldan.

Excuse me for being confused about the D-Nice prep slides for 2012.

Last year I used the 20 prep slides that contained 4 sets of slides ( 5 red, 5 blue, 5 green, and 5 grey/white). This year there are 13 slides (1 red, 1 blue, 1 green, and 10 shades of grey/white). How can this be described as "balanced and uniform colored slides"? Am I seeng the same 13 slides that you see? Using the 20 slides made common sense to me. How can using 10 various grey/white/black slides be prepping the panel? I've searched for an answer in several threads but found none. I plan on using the 13 slides next week, but just need a little clarification/comfort zone.

Well true to an extent. At the end of the day I'm happy that I got my 55GT50 for a very good low price from Abe's of Maine but their customer service was so poor that unfortunately for them I will never buy another product from them. Here's just a portion of how bad their service was; No updated tracking information, abrupt and rude customer service people and to top that all off the delivery (which I paid extra for) people were an hour late and they never called to say they would be late. I had to call and nobody could tell me where they were other than to say they were in my town somewhere.

After they delivered the TV (without an apology for being late) I called Abe's and asked for my extra delivery fee refunded and they did. They also asked me, as a "favor" to them to post a review on ResellerRatings.com which I did. They didn't like the review and called me personally and offered me a free extended warranty (after they lied and said Panasonic gives me only 90 days carry-in) if I were to either change or remove my negative review of them. Not only was this unprofessional and immoral but it sounded like it was borderline illegal. I refused their request. This all happened today BTW.

Merchants with a good reputation may cost more but don't you think that they just might be worth it?

I just got a 60gt50 today. Oh my, it's beautiful! Both off and on. I've finally pulled myself away from watching it all day. I can't keep myself from watching things on it.

No issues at all. The THX modes are perfect. THX bright room was nice during the day. I played a little with Custom as the day's lighting changed but ended up with THX Cinema as night fell. I haven't heard any sounds from it (over the aquarium gurgling sounds). Perfect screen. Runs with a nice temperature. Surprisingly thin.

I'm far happier with the PQ on this than the 65vt30 I tried last year. The vt30 had odd color contouring problems for me -- especially on cheek bones and walls -- so I returned it and waited for the 2012 models. This gt50 has none of those problems -- faces are captivatingly beautiful.

I choose the 60gt50 because I wanted a high end 60". 65" was too big for my setup. I would have bought a 60" VT if it existed. I wanted the THX modes and extra CPU core.

After hearing how good the THX modes were, I didn't bother with the slide prep. Maybe in 6 months or so I'll have it calibrated. Or maybe not. I'm 100% satisfied with THX.

Ordering from Amazon was a wonderful experience. I loved that they brought it in and if I wanted to return it, I could and they'd pick it up. Excellent 3rd party delivery guy. The first one arrived Tuesday and was badly damaged with a cracked screen. Amazon quickly had a new one in my house in 3 days plus I got the price drop. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! Amazing.

Their price is very good, but I'm not comfortable buying from them. What I did do was used the "tell us about a lower price" feature on the amazon website. Hoping more people do it so amazon actually lowers their price.

I'm anxiously waiting delivery of my 55GT50 ...... sometime in the next 3 days. As Tom P wrote it, "the waiting is the hardest part".

Edit; Rather than wait until Monday for delivery, I opted to drive 15 miles to a nearby town and PICK IT UP Friday! Got it set up (easy), and after watching a little high def golf, the first thing my daughter and I did was watch ALIENS : Director's Cut. I hear no buzzing, smell no smells, Love it.

I considered East Coast Tvs as they have the best price anywhere. I also read up on some reviews of their service and decided not to deal with them. I found an excellent deal with an Amazon seller who is FRIENDLY and has a stellar reputation and all went well for me.
