my 55 inch GT50 came in today. a couple of quick notes...picture is brilliant out of the box. no buzzing or noticeable green/pink blobs.

i connected my hard drive to test out the media server. very fast and responsive. it finds files quick. as advertised, all the formats work. one thing to note is that the media server does not support certain audio formats. so make sure you have a supported format contained in the mkv...i'm not sure which ones are supported as i haven't gone through them yet.

the UI for the media player is pretty basic. you select either pictures, movies, or music and then it scans for recognizable formats.

one thing i am having an issue with is viera connect. i have wifi set up and the connection test says it is successful, but when i try to access content, it says i cannot connect to the server. anybody else having issues with accessing viera connect?

update: the media server doesn't support dts audio contained in mkv. you'll need to convert it to ac3. easy enough

Are the GT50's available at any BM stores to take a look at? I'd love to see it before I pull the trigger on the 55'.

This will be my first plasma if I decide to grab it. I'm kind of nervous coming from 3 LCDs, none of them being LED, but all of the issues with the newer ones scare me. Still a little worried about taking the plunge with the possibility of IR and burn in, but I think I'm ready to make the leap.

My viewing habits consist of HD digital cable, blu ray and streaming content from an apple tv (movies, MLB, NHL). It will be for our living room with a decent amount of light, but I think after tinkering with the brightness it will be fine.

The ST50 looked pretty good to me tonight at BB when I saw it, so I'm assuming the GT will be fine. Any input is appreciated.

Well i just brought a 50gt50 on the weekend and i'm yet to receive it and can't wait. But coming from lcd and plasma i feel that plasma still holds it s ground. Theres always the worry with IR or burn in but if your sensible for the first few 100 hours with the set then i think that you will be okay.

Typical rules apply don't leave it on static images for long periods of time or leave it on the same station for hours on end.

One thing i will add from my experiences are that i have never suffered from IR on any of the panasonic plasmas that i had... i watched numereous movies and gamed on them pretty hard.

I'm based in the UK so i don't know if certain settings differ to the US but i always had the side panel protection set to high which was supposed to help against image retention. They also have the pixel orbitor too.

I think the filter on the gt50 should work pretty well i have pretty big windows in my flat which my tv will be next to but i think that the filter on the tv should help.

I can't find any Gt50s in stores, only on amazon or Panasonic.com. Anyone know when they will be in BB or other retailers. Sure would like to see one before buying. I asked Panosonic sales today through their site about the green tint, was told they are not familiar with this on the 2012 models. Oh well.

Nice shots. Very good looking tv. I do prefer the look of the bezel much more than the st50, even though I doubt there is picture difference.

And what prices are you paying in the USA for the 50" and 55". Lower than Amazon? I read that Panasonic is giving brick & mortar stores a lower price than online only retailers.

I got mine on a easter special which included 2 pairs of 3-D glasses i should be recieving them soon, one thing i will say is that this tv is pretty bright on the default settings took me by surprise if i'm honest.

this tv also has a 1080p direct mode i think it bypasses all the processing.

I currently have the Panasonic 50PX80, I am considering the 55GT50 or 55DT50(led). My television is located in rather bright room and I'm concerned about the picture quality in the daytime. I really like the 50PX80 in the nighttime,however in daytime the picture can get washed out. Is the increased panel brightness of the GT50 enough to overcome this issue or should I go for the led? Any input on the PX 80 versus the GT 50 in bright light conditions would be appreciated.

Picked up my 50GT50 yesterday and got it hung on the wall late last night. From what I can tell I seems to be buzz free. I had issues getting my wifi going but eventually after pounding my head into the wall I got it to work and already downloaded an update. I never noticed that the remote doesn't have controls for other devices. I will say I don't care for the hdmi connectors on the TV. They seem extremely shallow and seems as though that the hdmi cable is only plugged half way in. Haven't watched to much yet. Been watching in THX mode. I would think some of the other modes should be plenty bright for just about any room. I noticed there doesn't seem to be anyway to save settings by input. Would be nice to save settings separate for digital and analog cable channels. I'm guessing the black level should be on light for HD and dark for SD signals. Seems like maybe I have a ghost type line on the right side pretty close to the bezel. This may be from my cable so will need to check this a little more. Almost seem as though I can't see it with only 1 eye, left or right but with both I can. Weird, I went up close and couldn't see it! Just noticed it may be on the other side as well? Don't think it's a deal breaker but will keep an eye out. Might have to give the edge to the Sony 46hx929 I had for the SD analog channels. To early to tell just yet but I do seem to see more combing with SD than the Sony. I do miss the channel guide that the Sony had.

here are a couple of different views of the 55" GT50. you can get a better visual of the gradient in the stand...it's not as distinct when looking at it at eye level (not looking down from the top). Mounting holes in the back may help some ppl.

To randy i live in a council flat and they boxed up the fire place for some reason or another, i would have rather it not been there as i'm not a fan of fire places anyway.

if it wasn't there then it would have been the ideal 5.1 spot but theres nothing i can do about and it doesn't bother me.

Thanks rikemomo i'm loving it at the moment blacks on this thing is beyond words and the pictures on bluray are just so vibrant and bursting with colours.

The PC In is Vga or Dvi?

For those of you that have one, does it allow the increase of brightness in all picture modes? The VT50 review said that model did not and the ST50 does so it was brighter for bright rooms, but the reviewer didn't know about the GT50. I have a very bright room so I am concerned.

I haven't seen any feedback of the GT50 in PC mode. I use to use my GT25 a lot in PC mode mostly for watching downloaded content and for gaming.

Has anyone tried it? In my 2010 model I connected my pc to the tv as a second monitor and noticed the tv had issues fitting everything properly in 1920x1080p mode.

I can't see a demo in store and would love some feedback.

I have the samsung 64E8000 and the picture is great. Im currently testing it.
I have thirty days to return it. awaiting pros calibration reviews.

I will skip the VT50 as many reports indicates that panel is not brighter in pro-calibration modes.
UK models show that VT50 dark levels essentially the same as ST50.

I will save the money and go with GT50.

AFAIK, All UK models are brightness limited. All US models are not.

Isn't it a bit early to decide? There's been no testing here in the states and the UK panels are very different. The only report so far says that the s/g/v will be the same brightness.

Can anyone comment on using a PC connected via HDMI to the GT50? I plan to do a lot of gaming on mine (when I squeeze the trigger), but am currently on the fence between the ST50 and the GT50. (And, I have no plans to use a VGA cable... (as using VGA vs. HDMI theoretically = signal degradation, yes?))

Seems the ST50 has slightly better input lag results (believe I saw 16ms vs 30ms on the GT50). This is extremely important to me, BUT I will be viewing in a fairly bright room, and have read that the GT50 handles far better in lighter viewing conditions than does the ST50.

Also, I've read that, in general, plasmas are not the way to go if you plan on using the set as a PC monitor a lot, and that an LCD is the way to go for PC usage. Should this deter me from getting a GT50?

Would appreciate if any gamers out there have had any noticeable input lag experiences with the GT50, or experienced flaws when connecting a PC via HDMI. Thanks in advance!

That doesnt change the fact that the only real difference between the Vt50 and Gt50 is the Ultra black panel Pro and one sheet of glass display.

If like early Uk reports indicates theres not a signficant diff in black levels.
I'm betting that D-Nice or Kevin Miller can calibrate the GT50 well enough without the Isf controls.

I cant justify the extra 500$ for the VT50 over the GT50.

Side note: Samsung 2012 E8000 black levels are pretty darn good.
2012 face off is going to be close!

If your going to do alot of gaming then you should get and LCD/LED display.
