Of course, the hrs depend on one's viewing habits.

I have 2 GTs

3 hrs a day for 5 years = 5475 hrs for each GT.

then upgrade to a Panasonic 75" OLED

.. for $50,000.

What sort of prices are you getting? And how have these "saved your butt" in the past??

Thanks.

As far as the warranty is concerned, yes it's FutureShop's PSP. In all honesty I'm the last person to ever advocate buying extended warranties. I never buy them on anything and the few times I've needed support my credit card's additional-year warranty on purchases came through for me.

A few years back, when plasmas were still considered new-ish technology and repair/reliability history wasn't readily available, I rolled the dice and reluctantly bought FS's PSP on my first plasma (50PZ77). Just over 2 years later it developed the dreaded vertical line of dead pixels. Of course the repair estimate exceeded the cost of replacement, Panasonic's warranty and my Credit card's warranty were both of no use due to the timing (after 2 years) so FS replaced it for the 50G15.

Would you believe just over two years of owning the G15, almost to the month, it got the same vertical line? Anyhow, they're replacing it this time for the 50GT50. I wanted to go bigger so I upgraded and paid the difference for the 60".

I totally agree the warranty is outrageously priced ($599 for 4 years on the 60GT50) but in my case it more than paid for itself each time.

I was considering SquareTrade's warranty as an alternative since it's now available in Canada, and a lot cheaper, but I just don't know how good they are to deal with or how they go about handling claims and replacing defective TVs. FS's warranty, albeit expensive, is easy to deal with (feature-for-feature replacement at minimum).

Since we can't discuss prices here, I'll PM you what I paid for the 60GT50.

So I watched Avatar 3D with my Sammy 3100 glasses I had and the Xtalk was awful. To the point where I couldn't stand to watch it & bothered my eyes. I had it set in THX Cinema 3D but I doubt the preset matters, it's got to be the glasses.(I hope). I'm guessing that crossing brands works but not that great. I'm gonna try to hit up BB tomorrow for official Panny glasses.

Make sure to price match the glasses with amazon. The BB by my house had them for $99.00 compared to amazon $ 52.00.

my concern about MMORPGs and FPS such as "Battlefiled " etc.

The Samsung 3100 glasses are not compatible with the Panasonics, only the new 4100s are. The 3100s may still give you some 3d effect, but it will be terrible since the glasses aren't synced to the tv properly.

How did you price match with Amazon? I was just reading BB price match policy and it says they will NOT price match with online-only retailers. It says you have to provide proof with an ad from a local retailer within 25miles

DSM, thanks for the heads up! I figured since they were BT

Honestly I had the ST50 for 12 hours, I watched a few hours on it with the D-Nice settings and it looked good, but I wanted a 60 and I wanted it now (before the Mayweather fight LOL) So best buy had a 60" GT50 so I just went with that...Both look great I don't think you could go wrong with either.

Vertical Viewing Angle/Speaker Placement

I would not be able to wall mount this tv. I will be using a 23" tall a/v cabinet. Also, in order to use my 5 1/2" high center channel speaker, the tv would sit on a 3" tall metal riser. Would something like this take the "sweet spot" out of my viewing angle?

Also, would this setup work at all as far as speaker placement? I am currently using a metal shelf on top of my KDS 50A3000. Because of the width of the tv this works fine. I am sure this would not work with any of the GT50s.

Thank you for your help.

Steve

I'm not sure if this would work, but I believe I saw Paul's TV as a site Amazon would price match with and Paul's has the 55GT50 at $1499.99. If you go for it, I hope it works for you.

My local best buy matches amazon direct prices.. They have been doing that for awhile, but that depends on the managers.. Usually I just take the product to customer's service and they price March there.
my local BB matches amazon prices all the time also
post #1546 of 9029
And if your local best buy won't price match Paul's, just call cust service.

O-K here's my 2 gripes so far with this TV. I set it to game mode to play MW3 and the green's, yellows & blues of the game were way over saturated. It made the game unbearable to play. I shut off color management & turned on 1080p direct and it seemed to help a little but not much. I then tried MLB 2K12 with the same settings and it looked awesome! So what is the deal with MW3?

Second issue is when I hooked up my 2TB WD HDD. It seems this TV only sees my .mkv files. It doesn't read any other type of file format like my previous Samsung UN55D8000. Even playing the .mkv's, it would say audio format not supported and would only play video.

Any feedback on these two issues would be much appreciated. Other than that...I love this TV.

My friend purchased the GT50 from BB this past week. Today she went back to BB to do a price match against Paul's. She had to get the manager at BB to override the price. She was able to get the 50'' GT50 for 1299. Her GT is set to be delivered Tuesday, she threaten to cancel her order and close her BB card if they didn't price match.

I can't comment on the issue with MW3 but as far as MKVs are concerned, an mkv is simply a container and can have any number of audio codecs in it. My guess is that there is a specific audio codec in your MKVs that Panasonic's media port player can't (currently) handle.

If this is indeed the case, I guess one comfort you can take is that all it requires is a simple software update from Panasonic to update the media player to handle it. The bad news is that it's totally up to Panasonic to address this so it might be good to provide feedback to Panasonic tech if possible on this issue.

I have a few MKVs that I'm going to try as soon as my 60GT50 arrives on Wednesday. I'll post my results here.

It's going to cost the manager a happy customer, and he will also have to sell a delivered display as "open box". That's negotiating from a power position if you're willing to follow through.

TIME2PLAYDAGAME: have you tried to play in cinema mode instead of game mode?

I haven't tried Cinema. I've always used Game mode with every set I've had, since it shuts down all the processes of the TV for better input lag. I'll try it but it's weird how one game is fine and the other isn't

Post #151 Last line indicated that DTS audio was not supported in an MKV file and the audio had to be converted to AC3

The set is listed as knowing the following formats AVCHD 3D/Progressive, SD-VIDEO/MotionJPEG (Lumix)/MKV/MP4/MOV/M4v/FLV/3GPP/VRO/VOB/TS/PS, MP3/AAC/FLAC, JPEG/MPO

I couldn't find much useful info describing detailed specs. As someone pointed earlier, MKV files are "generic containers" that hold AV files. The specific files within the container can be any of hundreds of different formats (although most will use a hanful of popular formats).

I realize this isn't much help; hope it leads to more useful insight.

Have you tried messing with the gamma settings in the game itself? I know it doesn't really mess with the color that much, but you may be able to find a setting you like better...
Has anyone tried D-Nice ST settings on the GT50?

Since the panels, etc are so similar, the settings should be very close. Nes pas?

I'll check it out. I remember when I first got the game, it had some sort of TV set up. I may have to change the settings since I came from a 55" LED.

Tpollagi, that means we'll most likely have to use something like TsMuxer to change the audio. Good thing it's just the audio, cause that's actually pretty quick. I would hate to have to convert all these files

You should ask D-Nice that question.

Is that the new break in procedure?
