biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif Yes and No, really.

Its been a wide spread "issue" will all the manufacturers and every years different models but it's never exactly the same. Some buzz is "normal" from the plasma charge / discharge cycle but this is nearly in-audible. Never the less manufacturers use this as a blanket excuse that "all plasmas buzz".

In my opinion, after reading the entire internet, the problem's root cause is magnetostriction in components of the high voltage power supply. Where this gets more complicated is that these vibrations appear to find secondary "loose" components that also begin to vibrate at harmonics of the original frequency. The individual inductor may be vibrating on the power supply board, some other component may be vibrating on the board, the board may be vibrating on its mount, the mount may be vibrating, a loose board nearby may be vibrating, trim pieces, wires, straps, nuts, bolts, screws .... the entire TV .... may be vibrating wink.gif

The key offending part appears to be the power supply. I think if the individual components are "quiet", properly mounted, and the board is adequately mounted with vibration isolators then 90% of this buzz would never happen.

I completely fail to understand why the manufacturers continue to ignore what is probably the largst complaint with the entire industry year after year after year. At this point (what, 12'th ... 14'th generation ....) I would be embarrassed to put sets on the market that have this issue and show how ignorant my engineers are.

Can someone recommend a keyboard\mouse combo to pair with this television?

I searched on both the forum and elsewhere with no luck, would it be possible to pair a bluetooth keyboard & trackpad\mouse combo to the televsion?

I just picked up my GT50 2 weeks ago.. I am noticing when watching some hd broadcasting, such as boxing, or anything "fast moving", that the images are getting blurry or having that "digitized" look to it.. I have not tinkered with any of the setting, i just have it set on THX Cinema mode.. Is this normal? I'm using a supposed "high quality" monster hdmi cable (if that even matters). Is this normal? This is the reason i have not bought a plasma and up until 2 weeks ago was perfectly content with my 61" hitach big screen from 1999. lol... Any ideas anyone??? Thanks!

My set has no problem with motion. I do occasionally see digital block noise from poor quality source video like broadcast HD. It looks exactly the same way on my 2007 Samsung LCD. There is a adjustment for block noise reduction that I have set to off. Don't know what it would do; never felt the need to turn it on.

If you are getting this "broadcast hd" from digital cable, QAM side-casting on an analog cable, or mini-dish, it is a result of overcompression by the cable / satelite provider to save bandwidth. I had DirecTV 17 years ago when they only had 2 satellites. The bandwidth compression and block-noise in those days was just aweful.

I won't comment on the quality of Monster cabling but I will say that it is greatly overpriced when compared to comparable cables without all the hype.

Has anyone had their GT50 calibrated?

How big of a difference in PQ did it make?

I am currently using C-Net/ David K's custom calibration settings and am very satisfied but I would like to hear opinions on if it is worth doing.

Question regarding using THX Bright Room Setting.

Is it safe to have the Contrast @ 100?

My 55GT50 replacement has about 150 hrs running combination of both 16:9 full screen content and D-Nice's prep panel slides.
I'm currently switching between THX Bright Room for daytime viewing and CNET's Custom settings for night time.
For 3D viewing, I'm using THX 3D Cinema...the contrast is also @ 100.

Thanks!

Anyone have any idea what size mounting bracket this tv accepts? Can't seem to find it in its service manual and I want to purchase the mount before I get the TV.

Use the link in the signature area at the bottom of my post to read what other plasma owners have written about having a professional calibration done.

The flat panel reports are in post number two, and any plasma display in the past few years is a relevant report. The most reports are about Pioneer plasmas. I haven't counted, but I think the Panasonic displays have the second most displays.

The only way a report can get into the lists is if I see it, or if someone gives me a heads up. As long as the calibrator has a user name at AVS, I include the report.

I'm always looking for reports that I've missed. redface.gif

Here's a link to the Canada site which has the dimensional drawings of the GT's larger panels.

I'm reposting this owner's report about his calibration here so that other G50 owners who are interested will have a better chance to read it.

Chad Billheimer is known as "Chad B" at AVS.

He is very friendly and took took the time to explain what he was doing and answer any of my questions. He did a calibration in CUSTOM mode and also THX3D CINEMA mode.Picture looks great, I like knowing my TV looks as good as it can.
Will be using Chad in a few month to calibrate my projector.

Thanks for the reply Tpollagi.. It does not do this on all HD channels just some.. So maybe it's what you describe.. I have verizon fios.. Oh trust me, I know monster cable is usually
a rip off, especially if you buy it in a brick and mortar store.. I got a 16' monster cable online for $34.. I just figured, let me get a decent quality cable, since it;s going to be inside the wall..
Trust me a $5 for a cable from monoprice is just as good, if not better.
hmm. looks like 684 x 300 for the 65 and 500x300 for the 60. Am I reading that right?

It seems that you are. A lot of these mounts have plenty holes to accommodate different size tv's.

From my experience so far, it seems this year's Panasonics buzz much more than my previous three panasonic plasmas I've owned which is unfortunately as there aren't many TVs out there with equivalent PQ, save for the astronomically priced Elites and HX929s.

I am in the same boat. After two ST50s and one GT50, it's hard for me to believe that I am just catching the odd lemon(s). Put something bright on the screen (e.g. white slide) and listen- without volume cranked up...
It's such a shame, given the PQ, but I don't think I will ever get used to it. Any reasonable LCD alternatives in the near price range?

I wonder if the buzz is a function of screen size. I have a 50GT50. I asked my wife to listen (I don't hear nearly as well) and she had to have her ear within an inch of the front screen to hear a buzz. Or maybe I am one of the lucky ones or I didn't have a bright enough screen.

We have a 55GT50, and neither of us can hear any buzz unless we put our heads within 12" of the display. This was basically the same for our old 50" 9UK plasma.

60 inches here and Dead Quiet beyond 1 inch in front or 6 inches behind the set. So, size is irrelevant.

Just did a "Buzz" sound test on my GT50.. With all sound muted in a silent room, i can hear the buzz when my ear is behind the tv and 1 foot away.. As I hover back around towards the front
of the set, the sound is basically unable to be heard.. If I strain myself to listen very carefully I can hear it faintly from 1-2 feet away, As i get farther away, cannot here it at all.. So I guess,
I'm good to go, since I normally sit about 14 feet away from the set..

With so many of us with different-sized TVs having quiet ones and so many having multiple noisy ones, you would think that Panasonic would do some research and find out why. For example, if it comes out that the quiet ones are usually the very first sample to be received, whereas a first noisy sample is returned and followed by second and third noisy samples, they should see why they cluster like that. Is it caused by the way they are delivered or the store or the warehouse where they are stored? I gotta believe that some QC person is following forums like this one and is familiar with the problem. From what I heard about Japanese engineers, they take any problem with their work very seriously and will do everything in their power to remedy a problem. On the other hand, they are too polite to tell another person, especially a superior, that there is a problem with work that is the responsibility of the other person. That was the problem with TEPCO in Japan. In addition, half of Japan is on 50Hertz power and the other half at 60Hertz, making it difficult and expensive for utilities to help each other. I guess they figured it was an imposition to make the other half conform to a nation-wide standard.

My tv is finally on the way you can not believe how happy I am. For break-in i've decided to mix slides (sleeping/at work) with HD digital cable, and full screen movies. What settings pre-set is everyone using for the first hundred or so hours? Also how low should I drop the brightness and such?

Thanks and sorry for the repeated question

I apologize if this is already posted somewhere. I just picked up a 50GT50 today and I plan on running the panel color slides provided by D-Nice for the recommended 100 hours. Just curious how many hours straight can you can keep the TV on before you should turn it off and give it a break. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I need some 3d glasses and heard the Samsung ones that are cheaper work with the Panasonics? Is that true? Because the Panasonic glasses are Bluetooth.

Are they supposed to somehow communicate with the tv? What is the Bluetooth for in the glasses?
