I just got updated to a new firmware version 1.170 (1170-1000). Anyway, maybe I skipped a couple updates, but did the onscreen volume bar/indicator change, or am I just going crazy?

On another matter, the list price of the Darbee has gone up $50 to $349; the online prices have gone up as well.

looks like you can still get the Darbee DVP 5000 Darblet for $269 + free shipping at amazon - i just ordered one today and will report my findings. Also - thanks for telling me/us about this product Randy - i hope i get the same results on my GT50 that you have observed.

You are not going crazy, I did notice the volume bar/indicator changed also. Not sure what else changed.

I am looking forward to 1.170; the browser is flaky, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I bought the 65" P65GT50 in Aug but the picture looks soft during the day and great at night. I adjusted the settings at night with my favorite ligh.

I turned on the "CATS" feature and it made no difference during the day

Do I need to adjust the picture settings again for daytime viewing or is there some button or feature I need to use?

Which setting are you using? I use THX Bright Room with CATS Off all of the time and it looks good day and night.
I use custom and I sometimes use THX Cinema but I don't use THX Bright Room

Could that be the setting I should calibrate daytime viewing?

I closed the blinds at daytime sometimes and still the picture is soft which is strange since the blinds are closed at night and the desk light is on and the picture is outstanding.

Try THX Bright Room, what do you have to lose?
I will try that and hope it works

If it does work I will have to use 2 different settings at day and night.

Just turn off CATS and keep the panel at a steady output. If you already disabled CATS and don't understand why the TV looks flat during the daytime, It probably has nothing to do with the TV's image or luminous output. Its probably the perceived change in contrast that results when the ambient room lighting changes. At night, the room is darker and the TV LOOKS brighter and blacks look blacker and everything is wonderful. During the day, the room is brighter, the TV LOOKS duller, blacks look washed out and everything looks dull.

It's just like the headlights on your car. You can drive around all day long with your high-beams on and no-one will care. Do it at night and you will blind everyone you pass. The intensity of the headlights hasn't changed, the contrast has. Contrast RULES, thats why plasmas look better than LCD's at night. LCD's have poor contrast due to their inability to make "black" even though they can get very bright.

I recently bought a tc-p65gt50, and after delivery i watched a 3d movie (side by side). The image was flawless with no crosstalk visible.
I updated to the 1.150 firmware and all of a sudden my 3d had seemingly lost all depth and had crosstalk in every scene where there was suppose to be depth in perception. (i even re-watched the original movie that had zero before,
mind you i was looking for defects and problems as the tv had just been delivered, and it was riddled with crosstalk, when before there was absolutely none noticeable.)
I say crosstalk, that's what i assume it is, green outline showing the difference between the right and left image almost, but it only happens in one eye.

I have several pairs of glasses they each show the same thing. I've tried resetting (vol down+menu) and changing settings to no avail.
Panasonic was very unhelpful and the tech that called me back was very rude and angry right off the bat.
Talking to me in a very aggressive voice acting like i was a child who didn't know what i was doing blaming everything but the T.V. (source, glasses, content, settings i messed with).
I was told there was absolutely nothing they can do for me, besides give me the horrible advice they gave me. They even offered to exchange my 3d glasses (all four pairs magically broke at the same time i guess).

So, I guess I am wondering if anyone else is having these problems, if they could reply or message me.

My 50GT50 came with 1.150 and 3D Olympics looked fine. Perhaps the new version 1.170 will fix your 3D problem and my Web problem. But I don't know how to force a a download of the latest firmware.

Yea, when I saw they had an update yesterday I was crossing my fingers. No dice though, still messed up.

I agree that the C-Net settings look the best. I might on occassion bump up the contrast a few ticks during the day if there is alot of light in the room, but otherwise their settings are spot on IMO.

Push menu, network, software update

It will show you what you have and what is available. You pick the new one then say Yes update now.

It will download and install by itself.

(or something very close to this)

Check under the picture settings when watching a 3d movie and make sure 24p Direct in is set to 48Hz. I notice that when this is set to 60Hz watching a 3d movie I see a lot more crosstalk than usual. Also check the 3d settings and make sure 3d adjustment is set to zero. That would be a start.

Yea, I've tried that it does help slightly, but it's no match to how it was before. It's still not popping/showing as much depth as before. Did you ever have the original firmware? I've had people who watched the first movie with me come over to verify that I am not crazy and that this is Infact happening.

Have you considered updating the firmware to 1.170?

Yes, I did that the day it came out, no improvement. Fortunately nothing else broke.

I thought the great appeal of the O-93 was the "reference quality" processing. If this is the case, I would guess the O-93 is already outputting a better signal than the Dar-box can produce. It may just add artifacts to an otherwise clean signal. But, I know nothing about either device so I'll just shut up now.

Contrast 75 Brightness 50 (unless I tweaked them, sorry can't be certain) You could also do a reset but that will wipe all the other settings.

Just choose the menu option "Reset to defaults" and it will reset just the thx cinema mode, not the other modes. In case you are happy with your other changes in that mode (and can't remember what they were), contrast default is 60 and brightness 50.

Can someone tell me the inches when the tv is on its stand from the base up to the bottom of the screen? I have a center channel speaker that I place in front of the tv on its stand and want to make sure the height of the tv isn't so low that the center speaker blocks some of the visible screen. I hope I worded that right... Thanks

The distance from the bottom of the base, i.e., the table top, to the bottom of the screen of the TV is 3-3/4 inches. This is for my50GT50, but note that larger sizes have different bases as indicated on page 9 of the printed owner's manual. Also note that the on/off indicator light and the sensor for the remote is on the border underneath the screen. The border is about 1-3/4"

The owner's manual can be downloaded at Panasonic Web site. However, the one with the info is called setup guide at the Web site and it has the info for all sizes.

Just ordered my 50GT50 from Amazon. This will be my first plasma adventure. My current tv is a Panny Projection circa 2004
I d/l and read the GT50 user manual pdf.

Question:

Does it matter which HDMI socket number I use for my cable box? I thought I read where #2 socket is best for audio components.

Thx
Steve
