If you're in a dark enough room then yes. It reduced the noise in the dark areas considerably for me.

I had my TV calibrated with the panel brightness set to low and it didn't cause any issues with the calibration process.

Hi All,

I have a question regarding my panny GT50 and Viera link? I have my panny hooked via HDMI 1 to my Denon receiver. The issue is, sometimes, not always the panny reverts the audio to the TV not the receiver. I then have to go to the panny remote and hit the viera link menu button and choose HT receiver and then the audio is back through the receiver and all is fine. This is very annoying. Anyone else having this issue?

Thanks,

I tried this, in a dark room, but it didnt improve the PQ for me. In fact I think it looked worse, although the noise part of the picture was about the same either way...

Since you are having a tech come out, it would be interesting to know if the loose screw fix is legit, and why does the buzzing only magnify on white scenes.

More load on the power supply for the bright images perhaps??

I'm also at the point of contacting Panasonic to get a tech to come take a look at my GT50. I'm very curious to see: a) if it gets fixed, and b) if there is some common cause among our buzzing displays.

ok so i'm pretty sure my buzzing problem is the tv and not my stand. (not the buzzing everyone else has)
it's like audio is peaking a lot and when it happens the back of the panel vibrates. i guess it's just a certain frequency that causes it to happen, but i pressed a bunch of stuff up against the back of the tv and it mostly stopped it.

has anyone had this issue? maybe there's just a loose screw on the back of the panel, or the speaker itself. or should i just say **** it and call panasonic ?

Need some advise... Bought the 55" GT50, picture was great and I was very happy with it. Then I got the dreaded buzzing so I called Best Buy and rather than have the geek squad come out they just replaced it. The new tv had the same buzzing, but also the picture was blurry, never sharp, especially with text or scrolling bars at the bottom of the screen. So I just returned that set and got a refund. My question is that I really loved the picture of the first set, so should I get another GT50 hoping the third time is a charm or move to a samsung plasma (E7000) or even a Panasonic 55" WT 50 LED?

Thoughts and advise is greatly appreciated...

Many of us have no buzzing at all. Order one from Amazon. They honor price-matching for TVs (and only TVs) and they are very good about returns.

Or Best Buy. They definitely will put the stand together and put the TV where you want it. Amazon is hit or miss on that. And Best Buy, although they don't say it, will price match Amazon, along with other retailers. It may cost more with tax and shipping, but I found it comforting to know, with a bad back, that the TV was getting set up and checked before they left. The other thing is that with Best Buy Rewards, can get some credit to buy a couple Blu Rays. Amazon has a similar reward program on big TVs.

What do you mean by it made the PQ worse. It shouldn't affect the PQ at all.

Did you keep it in custom mode when watching a dark scene? Did you switch inputs?

I cannot hear a buzz at all even with my head behind the TV ear up to the back of the set. No matter what is displaying. All I hear is whoosh of a fan/s. 65gt50

No buzzing at all. I often turn off the speakers and use headphones so when I get up to get a drink, etc. and take off the headphones I hear nothing.

I also use headphones and mute the sound and I hear nothing. I tried to find a bright scene and could not find a white one but everything I found caused no buzz. I will try to find a hockey game but it isn't easy with the NHL not playing yet.

Try the YouTube app.

NOTE: HA! I log in to the YouTube app, and right after I had posted here about where do you get support of apps, and I see that the Youtube app has been updated! YES! Going to see if my favorites lists can now be played. It must have happened this AM. There was a time when the Viera sever was down and I was wondering if it was for updates.

Watching the 2012 Winter Classic in HD, Rangers v Flyers, on the YouTube App no buzz. FF about 7 minutes to get to game play.

I have been reading this forum since I ordered my GT50 and it was just delivered today. The delivery company (ordered from Amazon) sent only one guy, good thing I only wanted it on the first floor until I mount it.

I am planning to run the prep slides but I cheated and watched a little of a movie from Netflix (lockout) when I was eating lunch, got to say wow for the PQ, the blacks are amazing.

Anyway I noticed that the USB 1 does not recognize USB stick, 2 and 3 work fine. I thought I saw a post by someone having the same issue but I couldn't find it using search.

Also no Buzz at all, only a faint buzz when screen is showing the white slide.

You don't have to run prep slides. I didn't and my picture looks awesome. There was a post on that too. Just go look at High Def Junkies for Black Op's settings for dark and light rooms. Or there are the CNET settings. I seriously doubt using real material will change the long term look of the picture. That is like head phone break in, IMO, using music vs pink noise. Just avoid logos and 4:3 format esp during the first 200 hours. Static white images for 15 minutes is what causes image retention, most susceptible during the first 200 hours.

Just a note on video games. I am using Black Ops Day settings for PS3 and XBox play. Much less image retention than using "Game" and the difference is negligible in brightness.

Thread on slides. Basically done just to get you through the break in o where its stabilized for being calibrated. Can't imagine waiting 200 hours to watch my new TV, lol.

Thank for the reply and the link. I will check out the settings as well.

I think my decision on using the prep slides was to get me to 100 hours fast. Going to be a family TV and I won't be around to police the 4:3 material. Don't know how you avoid logo's as it seems every channel has them.

What I meant is that the picture looked less appealing to me with the screen brightness on low instead of mid (its noticeable when you switch between the two) and I still saw the noise in the darker parts of the image.

I kept it in custom mode, paused it on an appropriate scene and then went into the menu and switched only that setting between low and mid. You can clearly see a difference in the way the picture looks, but it didnt resolve the issue I was seeing...

Oh I see. Put it in zoom format when you leave. LOL. That's what I use for logo laiden channels. My brother in law lives with us and I was watching the remastered Star Trek series on NetFlix in HD and he comes in and says, I want to watch that but you have this TV on lock down. I watch 4:3 material like that on the "Just" format. I don't trust him or my wife to zoom channels like CNN.

Some channels are worse than others. NFL Network with the left side bar is bad. But NFL RedZone with the bottom and top bars isn't. I watch usually the entire Sunday show, over 6 hours and minimal retention because they use less grey in the bars, the lighter, the worse it is.

Thanks,

This happens to me as well once in a while. I have a Panasonic SC-HTB550 plugged into the TV's HDMI 2 (ARC) and the it will switch back over to TV audio typically if I have something paused for a long time. This seems ridiculous to me since I have the TV's speakers disabled. I'm thinking it's an issue with the HDMI settings where the TV can turn off unused devices, but I haven't found the solution after changing a few of those settings.

I'm not sure if it only happens when I pause while using an app, like Netflix, or if it occurs when pausing a DLNA stream or even just muting over-the-air antenna TV.

Edit: I too hear buzz from the back when speakers are muted and a bright image is on the screen. I really only noticed it during my panel prep, so it must not be bad enough to annoy me during normal operation.

The issue I had was with HDMI4 not working. The tech who came out wanted to take the TV to the shop to repair it. Since I also had read postings about buzz, and mine was just about dead quiet (had to place my ear within an inch from the back corner to hear any buzz) I decided to not get it fixed. I still have no buzz and I can live with three HDMI ports.

whats everyone's thoughts on extended warranties? Pauls TV give me the best price for the TV and warranty, but Best Buy's warranty is the only one that covers burn in...
Hello everyone!

Wow it feels like centuries since I strolled through the Display section of this forum! Anyways, after going on 4 years I decided to upgrade my set (really wanted 3D) and of all the pricing and research I have done I have chosen the 60" model of this television. I have always LOVED THX settings right out the box except for a few minor tweeks I have to do on it so I dont plan on having my set calibrated. My only question to you owners is, should I be on the lookout in terms of any problems or setting changes that might enhance and or lessen the quality of my television? Also, like I said it has been a long time since I purchased a set, but do plasmas still require a "break-in" like process before adjusting picture settings and all? I remember on my old set I had to have that thing on for like 200 hours before I got the best picture out of it!

Thanks in advance guys and gals hopefully I can have some responses as the TV is to be delivered between 6-8pm today!!!! eek.gifbiggrin.gif

does square trade not cover burn-in? theirs seems to be best deal when you buy the warranty from costco
post #4680 of 9028
no it doesn't. I sent them an email and they confirmed that burning and dead pixels on LED's are not covered
