Best Buy took 3 days to get mine, about the same time it took Amazon to ship. And the reason I got mine from Best Buy was I got a call from Amazon's local shipper on Monday saying they still hadn't got the TV from Amazon for Tues delivery so they were cancelling that appointmernt. Later that day they got it, but by then I was going the Best Buy route.

I had my receiver on, playing some music airplayed from my laptop, and the TV on. Running the anti IR black and white slide, as the white got to the middle and then the right of the screen, where I can hear the buzzing from 8 feet away, the power consumed jumped up from 420 watts to 426, then dropped promptly when the white "flipped" over to the left side to scroll again.

So it seems that the buzzing is using more power for some reason on the right side of my panel then it is on the left. Anyone have any ideas?

It pulls more power the brighter the image is. That's why a display in torch mode draws more energy than a properly calibrated display.

Right that I get, but isn't it strange that it goes up on the right side, which is where the buzzing is? Shouldn't it be uniform?

Thanks for the reply. I saw that suggestion already in this thread. I tried it twice already but no change. Even with the screws tight there is play on the left side. I don't believe it's the mount. I think the base is weak on the left. I will contact Panasonic about replacing the stand.

I do like Amazon for many things but they are developing a shipping problem. When everything was delivered by UPS or FedX it was OK. Now they have started sending some items by "un heard of" carriers. Deliveries take much longer and there is no updated tracking. Everything eventually shows up but with a big delay. I recently waited 6 days for a small box that was shipped from an Amazon distribution center 110 miles away.

Anyway, TV's are handled by freight companies for Amazon. The freight companies often use 3'rd party local delivery services. There is a lot of variability in the overall delivery experience. Mine was a nightmare. Amazon was very nice about the whole mess but basically indicated it was pretty much out of their control after it leaves Amazon's hands.

With a price match, I would gladly buy locally just for the convenience of NOT dealing with the freight companies again. I am still a big Amazon fan, but I would seriously have to think about another freight type purchase.

Ordered my 65GT50 on Tuesday from Amazon, received it Thursday. Fantastic transaction, very professional friendly delivery staff. Couldn't be happier.

I think what you are seeing is based on the quality of the video source. A few thousand posts back there was a lengthy discussion on the new Panasonic models less than optimal performance with less than optimal video. It's pretty much what you are describing. As you noted, good video gives great PQ. Ultimately what you need is better quality video feeding the set. Most of the complaints came from people using cable. Cable companies often have a tendency to cram as much compressed crap in the wire as they can.

The video processing in the new Panasonics just don't do as good of a job compensating for bad video as many people would like. There is a definite weakness in how the new TVs handle 720p.

The best approach is to upscale all your video to 1080p before it gets to the TV. Many external video sources have adjustable output resolutions that will let you pick 1080p. For those that don't, you can either use a AV receiver that has a 1080p scaler and will take care of multiple sources or you can use a device like the Darblet that has multiple levels of processing to provide an enhanced "visual presence".

I'm preparing to mount my GT50. Is there a minimum clearance to the wall the tv needs for cooling and ventilation? I have a ultra low profile mount which came with spacers, i'd prefer to mount it without spacers unless they are necessary. Any thoughts?
Mine is roughly 1.5 inches from my wall ,,my S2 was mounted on the same mount for 2 years ,no overheating issues ..
I do believe you need the spacers..Mine came with 2 sizes,,i use the smaller ones,,i think they may be about 3/4 of an inch ..If you don't use them i believe the mounting screws will have some play in them or you possibly risk damaging the TV by trying to screw them in too far..I would use them ,,you won't notice the 1/2 inch or so difference they make anyway smile.gif

EDIT:Your going to need enough space for the power cord anyway ,,i just looked at mine and the plug is about 1/4 inch from the wall,,any closer it would probably be resting on the plug..you don't want that

Understood thank you! smile.gif I wanted to leave them out as it's my bedroom tv and i wanted the lowest profile application possible. The mount itself only gives about a half a inch off the wall so your probably right that i'll need the spacers.

On another point, i had no idea this set has a buzzing issue when i purchased it, sort of a black friday impulse buy since i was upgrading my primary display anyway. Do the vast majority of the units have this problem or is it hit and miss? Is it mostly negligible when using speakers?

To say its hit or miss is about right..
I'm glad to say mine does not have a noticeable buzz unless my head is darn near on top of it with no volume and i am purposely listening for it ..Others have had a nightmare of a time dealing with buzzers..
It almost seems like you should consider yourself very lucky if you don't get a buzzer rather than unlucky if you do get one.
If its not noticeable from more than a foot or 2 away consider yourself lucky,,,i guess

Wow so the sense i'm getting is that most units buzz and the buzz is fairly pronounced. Have people been able to hear the buzz over speakers played at low to moderate levels? I really hope the VT50 doesn't have these issues. eek.gif

I wouldn't say that at all. The vast majority of people you encounter on these forums came here because they had an issue at some point, but they represent a tiny fraction of a single percentage point of all owners. If there were mass issues...if it were truly hit and miss...it would be a major consumer electronics news item.

Just as an update my 60GT50 has performed flawlessly since purchased in OCT. Break-in consisted of several days of watching HD-Scape on a loop, no slides then straight to regular viewing using Black Ops nite settings. For those with issues I hope they all get resolved to your satisfaction! As has been mentioned before most posts on forums are about problems so I thought I would post my positive experience. The picture quality this plasma displays when properly tweaked is just jaw dropping.
I've had my 50gt50 for a few weeks now and am pretty happy with it. No buzzing problem (and I tend to be sensitive) and the pq is great from my dvr and mac mini except…

I'm experiencing white crush from the mac mini. I'm using the black ops custom night settings and no further adjustment on the tv does anything to avoid blowing out the highlights.

On the mac, using expert mode for the color calibration in the display control panel I can throw one or two of the adjustments to the lowest extreme and finally the last three steps of gray scale are differentiated and the alternating gray and white lines in the finder are resolved. The rest of the picture then looks like grayish mud. So I'm just using the HD 709-A setting which is otherwise ok.

So, just wondering if anyone else has noticed blown highlights that are hard to tame.

What is the general opinion on getting a protection agreement when purchasing?
I posted this in the 2012 Panasonic 2012-compatible 3D Glasses Thread and I'm re-posting it here for anyone that has been keeping an eye out on the 2012 original Panasonic 3D glasses to come down in price before purchasing them.

'Alright all you hold outs, Sears has the Panasonic TY-ER3D4MUs on sale for $29.97. After sales tax and shipping mine came out to $38. I took a closer look to see if i could avoid the shipping charges and found out that even though there is no ship to store option you could avoid it if you spend at least $40 on their website. What the heck wink.gif I went ahead and bought a second one as well and my total came out to $65.07 out the door.

I think these are the lowest prices for these glasses so far this year. Go get em ' biggrin.gif

Any recommendations for a good mount for a 60" GT50? Doesn't need to swivel or anything. Just keep the display on the wall and off the floor. Also need a recommendation for a 46" LED display mount.
Someone mentioned this from Monprice http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10828&cs_id=1082801&p_id=3900&seq=1&format=2

Thanks.

Thanks.

I was looking at this for my P60GT50: Sanus LL22. Still have it on a table but will probably eventually go with this unit.

I'm sure its a setting somewhere I need to change but I can't find it

Anyone else experience this?

This is a whole nuther topic and there are several existing Extended Warranty threads full of arguements both for and against. Discussing it in the GT50 thread will derail the thread so please seek out the Extended Warranty threads and join the arguements there. There's a bunch of em here wink.gif

You need to hook it up to HDMI 2 arc on the tv. If your receiver is arc capable you will have sound.

Will this effect anything else or pretty much just use HDMI 2 to run from my TV to my receiver?

It won't affect anything, it will just use the audio return channel input so you can have audio From your Viera apps. Make sure you enable ARC in your receiver as well.

I just tried to order the glasses from sears.com and they were out of them about an hour ago. I went to my local best buy and they priced matched them with no problems.
I'd avoid sears.com for anything. They charged my for something which never shipped then lied about it, then continued to lie in order to keep me from canceling the order. In the end i had to file a fraud claim with my bank. They've turned into a real third class operation, not sure what they have to offer that many other competently run businesses don't do far more effectively. Phew, okay, stepping off the soapbox, resume tv discussion.

Chris

I just got my P65GT50. My 12 yr old Sony 60" is officially retired.

I got the Sanus L25-B1. It sticks out about 3" from the wall. A lower profile will suit better and I think you got the perfect one in LL22. Even if the distance to the wall to the back of the TV is only 1.5", there is ample room for the vent holes at the back of the TV.

If I have to start again, I will get the LL22.

I am trying to use Netflix on my GT50 but I'm getting a message saying "unable to connect to Netflix. Try again later." My WiFi is working fine. I am able to watch Netflix on my tablet and all other internet functions work on my GT50 like youtube. I ran the connection test and it ran fine. I unplugged the set and plugged it in again. Netflix worked fine last night on my tv.

I think Netflix is down for a lot of devices. My friend's blu ray player won't connect and I've seen someone complaining about it on Facebook about their Roku not connecting.
