Yea I'm pretty sure that's what it is. It's the same effect you see when changing resolutions on the Directv box. That's why I set my Directv to output 1080i for everything instead of native resolution.

Anyway, I don't see any reason for having 3:2 pulldown 'on' or 'auto' for Directv when all I watch on there is mostly regular TV programming.

Thanks,

Had a 50ST50 delivered on 4 January. Quite happy with it until I came over here and noticed that GT50 have a setting for "1080P Pure Direct".

I'm somewhat OCD of video signal purity and my Sony BDP-S790 is set to play BD at "Original Resolution", which means it's sending data direct from BD to display without any processing intervention. Playback at display is set at 48 Hz (FPS?)

Does the addition of this "1080P Pure Direct" setting on GT50 imply that my ST50 cannot playback RGB 4:4:4 content?
No. Pure direct takes a 4:4:4 source directly without having to sub sample back down to 4:2:2. It's very subtle which I have only noticed on some of the chroma tests on spears and munsil

Hi

New 50GT50 owner here. was just about to try out some settings people are recommending but im confused. all the settings iv seen start off with a contrast at around 89, but mine only goes up to 60?

I need some help. New owner of 50gt50. Does it have any way of forcing 3D? I use Windows Media Center and it sometimes does not recognize a 3D signal. When I press the 3D button, there is no option to 'force' 3D. The only option I get is 2D->3D. Can somebody help me out? Thanks a lot.

In the 3D settings...change "Auto detect 3D" to "Auto 2".

Give it a few seconds once you start playing something to see if it picks it up then. Auto 1 only looks for a 3D signal, while Auto 2 does that AND analyzes the image to see if it is 3D.

nevermind.

Thanks a lot. I tried that, but it doesn't work. I had an LG lcd for a few days. It gave me an option to "force" 3D. So, there is not really an option to truly "force" 3D here?

Nope. Are these files that you are streaming through WMC to your GT50?

Yes. I was not able to get it to work but now I can. Using the solution inhttp://www.avsforum.com/t/1367175/cant-get-espn-3d-to-work-in-mce .

It was an overscan problem.
Thanks again.

This forum covers the North American models and our settings menus and picture modes are very different than the Panasonics in foreign countries, thus our settings aren't applicable outside of the North American continent.

If you're in Europe, there is the UK-based AVforums.com that covers the various European versions, and pretty much Asia and the Middle East too.

This happened to me playing some 3D YouTube videos for whatever reason...Try this, hit the 3D button on the TV remote, then press the lil red button below the option button marked R. A menu will show up where you can manually force whatever type of 3D feed is coming in.

This is absolutely brilliant !!! Is this documented somewhere ? I had never seen this before; it works very well also.

What else don't I know wink.gif
I don't know if it's documented...I stumbled upon this while trying to figure out why a couple of the 3D extreme YouTube videos weren't switching into 3D mode automatically. I'm glad it worked for you smile.gif

Well new owner of a 55gt50..wife decided the 60 was going to be too big now that buying it was for real. Mine has a July manufacture date and I noticed some buzzing that followed the screen when running scrolling bars (just testing with white content). My head was < 3 inches from the front of the screen. When watching content it was a slight buzz in the back upper right (when facing the back). All of this was only when on mute. So I think I'm safe, but will monitor as we break it in. No fancy accelerated break in. Just standard mode for picture with full screen zoom. Hope to run it through many hours this week before mounting it to replace the 40 LCD

One thing I did notice is when up close, say less than 2 feet, I can see red and green pixels on the screen . Mostly where it's black content, say a black suit. My source was bd version of inception. Is this normal to see these pixel colors? I tried disabling pixel orbiter but same result. My brother in slaw bought a Samsung plasma the day before so I may compare to see.

Isnt that the pixel shift? On the default THX settings its off, but I am assuming you have it on for your custom settings.

I’m getting kinda bummed with my 60GT50.Just finished 125 hours of D-Nice slides this week and today, starting tinkering with the settings: D-Nice’s Black Ops’, CNET’s etc.

I can’t get the PQ I want nor the one I had.

Was using the 60" GT50 to replace my 6-year old Pioneer 50" 5080 Kuro, which was going to my office. The Pio was the least expensive, lowest model Kuro there was (720p), but it WAS a Kuro and the picture was remarkable. I used D-Nice’s break-in and settings for it also and it rocked.

So here’s my problem.

This Panny is 6 years newer with supposedly better technology and I just can’t get the black saturation I have on the Kuro. Ive got them side by side and the clarity, the contrast and black levels on the Kuro all appear superior. Heck, even the DTV text on their programming grid is a crisper white on the Kuro. The ONLY negative on the Kuro hass an ever-so-slight red push

Anyone with any ideas? Is this perhaps a time/break-in issue? Is it worth getting my own calibration disc? Is the Panny still inferior to the low-end Kuro? I’m open for suggestions, ideas from you guys who really know what you're doing.

Thanks guys!
.

For some reason when trying to play a 3D movie it's telling me there is no 3D display detected. It has worked fine and just watched Avatar like week and a half ago. I use a PS3 as my playback device which hasn't been changed so not to sure what the problem is. I went into the 3D settings menu and even updated the software....everything seems normal. I tried a couple different disks which both did the same. Only thing that has been done between now and then wadi had installed an Elgato Game Capture HD in between the PS3 and AVR, but took it out right away.

Thanks in advance for any feedback

*Fixed* After checking cords and making a mess of my neat wiring al it took was a reset (hold power button) of the settings for it to work.

Just and amazing, professional job tha far surpasses anything best buy geek squad can do. I woul definitely recommend Tweakmytv.com for all my calibration needs.
How decent or bad is the geek squad, I am a premier silver reward zone so I get a free HDTV calibration, is it worth doing?

Does anyone have any recommendations on brreaking in?
1) Is it actually necessary? I mean is there any proof really out there that if you break it in in the first 100-200 hours it reduces IR or burn-in ? I want proof.. double blinded challenges etc.
2) Is leaving it on THX cinema an acceptable method? I like bright mode and custom but my contrast is higher, it basically only has 10-15 hours on it so far
I have the 60gt50
thanks

Randy thanks for asking. Yes I did try that a couple of times to no avail. The good news is that I called Panasonic support about it last week and they are sending me a new stand assembly. I was surprised because I remember reading a post by someone else with the problem who said they wanted to send someone to check it out first. Maybe there are enough owners with the sagging now they are just replacing the parts.

I did try Randy's fix and it didn't work. I called Panasonic and they are sending me a base. Thanks.

I paid for calibration sometime last year on my 55vt30.. he basically switched it to cinema mode.. didn't even try custom.... yippie!!!!

It looked horrible.. all washed out and too dim/soft. I would save your time.

How do you define "break-in"? I don't know that I've seen a significant majority agree on what break-in even is, let alone any sort of proof or double blinds. Personally I went easy on letterbox (I don't watch 4:3, regardless) and that was about it. I didn't avoid video games and unless a channel had a very obnoxious logo that never went away, I didn't worry about that either.

I thought I would run the slides for the first 100 hrs or so but blew it off. I have the 50incher and I guess from reading here I am lucky. No buzz or noticeble IR. I just mixed my viewing for a few days
running THX Cinema mode. I have now tried several of the settings including CNET, D-Nice and Blackops as found on the HDJ site. So far I haven't tweaked any of those yet. I use them for TV and Bluray. For
gaming I have it set to THX Cinema still and will continue to do so.

I have the Panasonic HDMI2 connected to the out on the ARC enabled Denon. I'm able to have sound from the TV through ARC to the Denon for TV apps and OTA signal. I'm not able to have a picture from the Denon back to the TV through HDMI2. TV indicates "no signal".

I've tested HDMI1 connected to the Denon (different cable) and I do get picture back to the TV.

The HDMI2 cable was working with video to an old Sony the Panasonic replaced. No ARC on the Sony, so not sure of the issue.

Any ideas on how to have both video and sound on HDMI2? TosLink is not an option at this time since all the cabling is behind the wall and I did not pull a TosLink.

Thanks

I have a Denon 3312ci and I am using ARC for audio from the TV. ARC is for audio and not video. Since you are getting the audio I assume you have your Denon HDMI control set to on. What is the source of your video? Are you changing the input on the Panasonic to HDMI2? You can also try the Denon forums. You may have better luck there.

Hey looking for advice here. Anyone have comments on what I was experiencing? Is it just normal? I did search and some folks experience sparkles, but this doesn't seem to be what I have, although similar.

Also, I'm looking to get advice on what defects I should look for before my return period:
buzzing, IR, and any other majors ones? Thanks.

Also, should I be concerned by having a July manufacture date running the risk of some fixes not being implemented in my batch of TVs?
