The GT sucks with 720 content, make sure your cable box is upconverting to 1080i and that you are not letting the TV do the upcoverting or it wont look good.

This cable box is up converting to 1080i. I followed everything in black ops setting except for the "1080p pure direct" is off because it is grey out. I was going to ask this question in the first post but forgot but does anyone know y I can edit this setting at all?

Also is this the reason y the color is washed out in sports contents or is their an HDMI setting I need to change to make sure the TV is receiving the 1080i setting

That setting is only available for 1080p sources iirc. If sports look bad is probably just that channel aka the source.

What gamma adjustment setting are you using? They measure differently on the 50/55 inch GT50's than they do on the 60/65 inch ones.

Question: I'm sure this has been answered, but the panasonic site says that its dlna will work with just certain avi/flv/mkv files. What are the restrictions?

OTA 720p looks fantastic on my ST. You have a source issue.

Damn I hope this is not the case. But the thing is that before this TV my LCD TV look good when playing sports and I'm using the same HDMI cable and cablebox

I'm using 2.6 like black ops says. Is there another setting I should use ?

I use the light dims too. They are cheap and work well. I use them on all kinds of little led power/display lights now!

Question for those who have had their GT50 for a little while:

I bought a 60 about two weeks ago, ran slides for five straight days and the 1080i (720p) picture from my DTV HR-23 is soft... it is not crisp/sharp at all.
I have tried everyone's settings (D-Nice, BO, CNET, HD Master, all of them and while I get a nice pic, it's just not DARK and sharp.
Have others experienced this and was there a solution?
Someone here was kind enough to respond with the fact that the GT50 does not do 720p (HDTV) well, but shines on 1080p BD etc.
Is this true? Are there remedies?

I bought a 50U50 (dirt cheap) and was breaking it in to give to a friend. IT looks darker (although crushed) than the GT50.
And my six-year old Pioneer Kuro 5080 (the lowest end, 720p model) is side-by-side with the GT50 right now and the Kuro just smokes it.

I'm more of a TV sports/movies guy than a streaming/BD guy so... any thoughts?

Try the settings I just posted and see if you notice any improvement.

The remedy for me was to bring my brightness down to 50 and use a cool 1 setting over warm settings...All other settings are BO's

Brightness is the easiest setting, in my opinion, to set correctly with any of the free test patterns found at AVS. I'd recommend both the GCD and AVS HD 709 disks. Both can be found in the display calibration section of the forum.

Well, I'm a Panasonic fan and must admit out of all the Panasonic and other plasma TVs I owned the GT50 doesn't impress me for typical TV viewing. In a completely dark room and a good source it is stunning. Add a little sunlight or other lights in the room and the GT50 gets washed out quickly. I have an older GT15 that destroys the GT50 in watch-ability in typical room environments. I too own a Pre Kuro, 2006 Pio Elite that still looks better. This is not a complete slam on the GT50 just my personal experience with it at this point. I like it enough to have kept it yet whatever it is with the glass/panel and any direct or even ambient light sure messes up the picture.

Now, I do believe its getting better over time. I know the GT15 really started to pop with over 300hrs etc. I've been slowly trying different settings/picture adjustments thanks to those that are posting. I haven't looked at the exact hours on our GT50 yet I'm sure it's approaching 300 due to using It for several months now. Bottom line, I like the GT50, (down right love it in a dark room) yet also see its limitations under what most would call typical viewing environments. Tweaking it is slowly making it better.

I have the WOW disc and tried it but did not like the end result from it(it did make my 54S2 better though)..Thats when i put BO's in (before you posted yours,will try them though) and did some slight tweaks,,like the temp ,,i can not stand warm,,especially while watching sports,mainly hockey(its back finally!!)
IDK ,i get the fact that we all want a perfect picture and all,but its a TV ,not a car ...Now my olds ,,yes ,i want it running perfectly

hi have a bunch of guys comming over tonight to watch the bruins on my panny 65gt50. hope hockey is nice on this tv. are there any good settings i can use for the hockey game. go bs

i had the bruins stanley cup bluray in last night and it looked fantastic despite only having 50hrs on this set so far. no brightness fluctuations or "hockey pops" as they call them. Ice looked natural, not overly white. The black level really helps you see/feel the depth of the arenas as well.

I'm glad to see your "looked natural" comment. Some people from time to time say things about hockey ice on plasmas, but it's because they haven't been to actual games and are not aware of what the ice really looks like.

If you're not used to it warm 2 makes everything look yellow or dirty. Now that I've run warm for years I now realize how much more true to life the warm 2 is.

It's all about what you're used to. Anything but warm to my eyes, on anyone's TV, looks blue and skin tones look alien like
