went over to HDJ and saw the disclaimer from D-NICE about his GT50 settings. To date Ive dialed in close to 30 hours of mixed content. His warning states dont use the settings without doing the panel prep process to the T...

Is there any adverse effect of using the settings if I didn't do the panel prep process? Ive already used HD-MASTER and CNets Katzmeiers...

Watched the Ravens/Pats game using HD-MASTER settings and it was pretty awesome!

There is no adverse effect just you won't get the same result in the end. It may still look fine its more of a disclaimer than anything.

If you notice, there isn't much difference between D-Nice's settings and HD Master's warm2 settings (just a click or 2 here and there), so the results would be pretty much the same. I currently have HD Masters settings on my 55gt50 with a slight bump down in contrast (78) and it seems to be the best I've tried yet. FYI, I also have a 50g25 in another room that I plugged in D-Nice's SM settings for that model and have not changed it since.

So just trying to keep everyone updated who might be folloing my 55GT50 problem. The blue lines continue to be a problem. Here are a couple shots from this weekend.

The original order and delivery with Paul's TV was a disaster and dealing with them on this issue continues to be a slow, laborious process As instructed, I sent pictures in last week but never heared back despite a 24hr promise. I went on live chat today and was told "maybe they bounced because the pictures were too big." Really? Who was going to tell me? So he says send them again directly to him. I do and he says ya, definately looks like a problem with the set. He tells me just send pictures of the S/N on the back of the TV and the front and back of the box. Why wasn't I told this before? I am at work now!
I arrange to have my buddy go over there, clicks the pictures, sends them to me, I forward them to Paul's and he says they will be forwarded to customer service to arrange for the swap. Now I wait some more. I don't have any faith that I will hear from them and I will probably have to prod them again in a couple days.

Sorry to hear. I went with amazon and they were great about price matching and others have commented the ease of their return process.

Sorry to hear that, and it kinda stinks! After your original post I was freeking out about mt 60GT50. I put in the Avengers (blue ray) movie and noticed the blue lines. I believe that they are there (on my GT) as they were intended to be there as per the movie and what the director wanted to see. All other content does not typically show them. I did run my set on the standard picture setting, from the begining(about 150 hours) to let the set settle in and also ran and still run the anti-image retention program weekly.

I hope Pauls steps up to the plate for you!!!

I love Amazon. Been dealing with them for years without any problems. You do have to be careful about 3rd party sellers though. Sometimes I'll pay a little more to get it straight from Amazon because I know they will take care of me if there are any issues.

Thanks.
I just got an e-mail stating the new TV will be delivered on Sunday 1/27/2013.

Thanks to HD-Master for the new settings. I have finally passed the 200 hour rule (if there really is one eek.gif) and used your NITE settings of Warm 1 and 2. I settled on Warm 2 as I think it looks more natural and (for me) Warm 1 looks too LED like.

Thanks again, the picture looks amazing now!!! This is my first Flat Panel TV and I love it. It replaced a Sony KV-32FS120 so you can see this is a big change for me. biggrin.gif

Before the TV purchase I set myself up with a few items that waited in the box until I pulled the trigger........Pioneer VSX-33, Panamax M5300-PM, Logitech Harmony One, and PS3 (used this before the TV arrived). My speaker set-up is Paradigm Phantom/Atom combo w/ CC100 center and PS-1000 sub. The next item is the speakers though as I have my eye on several different satalite set-ups. I wat to get away from the biggish speaker set-up and go smaller wall mountable. My short list is Paradigm MilleniaOne, KEF KHT3005se k-2, Cambridge Audio Minx S325 and the Anthony Gallo Acoustics NEW A'Diva or Micro with the BMR's (these are not out yet and that is what I am waiting on). On all of the set-ups I believe the SUB will either be the Paradigm Monitor SUB 8 or the SVS PB-1000 or SB-1000. Well see, but should be pretty sweet when it is set-up!!!

Thanks to everyone on this forum for their help.

You will love the Harmony One and the flexibility it will bring to your system. I've have mine for three years and I can't understand how I got along without it before that.

BTW, my new 50GT50 arrived a few hours ago. It's even more of a beauty that the 50ST50 it replaced. biggrin.gif

I agree about the Harmony one. I have already referred several of my friends to that device. It truly is a gem. I also agree with you about the GT over the ST that was one of the reasons that I went with the GT plus THX.

Some of the options are not available for some sources. THx modes are not available in the media player either. I'd suggest just dialing in the CNet settings or your preference of one of the other popular settings folks have listed here into the Custom mode for each input. They are a bit better than the THx settings anyway.

Someone mentioned the TV looking better with normal viewing and I am seeing the same thing. 80hrs of slides and about 10hrs of normal viewing. The TV seems to change its character more after normal viewing. I can see why calibration needs to wait.

Zoom and Format do not work with the internal apps.

So I have the GT and the HX950 both running side by side. Both impressive in their own right. To achieve the pop and desired light on the GT I have to set black level to light. In doing that I lack that deep rich color saturation and depth of black level I get from the 950. It also appears to wash out the picture a bit. If I set black level to dark on the GT seems capable of matching the black level of the 950, however shadow detail goes out the window and becomes too dark. I liked the GT better for football(the 950 had too much contrast) but i'm struggling to dial the picture in for everyday content.

It appears overall the 950 can achieve the brightest whites and the deepest black simultaneously while the GT seems to be one or the other. Can anyone tell me from your experience is there a way to achieve this degree of contrast or a significantly improved degree of contrast on the GT through tweaking settings? Can it be done through calibration since the GT only has two points of gray-scale adjustment? Would the GT have improved contrast? I believe someone mentioned yesterday that while the VT achieves deeper blacks it's at the cost of duller whites thus just a shift in range vs a wider range.

I also noticed to achieve the nice poppy vivid blue sky (i'm in Vivid) I need to set the GT color temp to Cool 2 yet I sacrifice browns, reds, and greens. Those seem best in in Normal. This I think I cana live with a little easier than the contrast ratio.

Just wondering what else I may be able to do and what realistic expectations should be? I know i'm being picky but every little bit counts.

Adjust both properly first. Vivid is horrid and should be banned in my opinion.

That's the exact reason I went with Amazon instead of some backhanded dealer like Pauls. I had to exchange my 65GT50 and they couldn't have been easier to work with. And just last week when they dropped the price $200, I emailed them and they credited my account with no problems whatsoever. Sure you may pay a little more in the beginning, but the ease of customer service sometimes is worth it when purchasing a high end item.

I agree. I really appreciated my settings on custom. It was very polished but then I turn the Sony on and try to compete with the vibrance and color saturation-this is the only reason I switched to Vivid-I know it's not great. No doubt in that respect it's no match but even back to my custom settings which were very close to those posted the contrast still leaves me hoping it can be achieved through calibration

I think part of this is that you are trying to make the gt look like an led. Plasma have a more realistic picture compared to an leds artificial look. leds tend to havr overstaurated colors and be too bright. Many people when they first get a plasma complain that it doesnt "pop" like an led. That pop is artificial. Kind of like a cartoon. But once people get used to a plasma then they think that leds look artificial and cartoonish. That famous "soap opera effect" if you will. I used to love my led but now when I go over my friends house and watch his I think everything just looks fake and has way too much color.

+1. I prefer a "realistic/true-to-life" television picture over an "enhanced" television picture. Just my preference. Both of bro-in-laws love they're enhanced led pictures. We're all different. What I can say to be true is if you're somewhat of a purist and techy, once you go pdp you'll never go back. That is until another tech bests it

I think part of my issue is coming from a super bright 36" tube tv. As for the frame interpolation that is the primary reason i went plasma. Although with the motion control on medium, the football game last night was outstanding and i didn't notice any soap opera. I'm not looking for the brightest whites or deepest darkest blacks just 15% more in each direction would be cool. Just tried Katzmaiers settings. Very rich but a little dark for me.

I'm not sure i'm a purist...Yet. I'm a musician at heart and run a private recording studio in my free time. Unfortunately that has conditioned me to realize that EVERYTHING matters and everything can be tweaked for improvement. Naturally i'm taking the same approach here and driving myself a a little crazy trying to achieve perfection. i'm going to just try watching vs. tweaking for a couple days and see what happens.

That's ABL. Nothing you can do about it.

What picture mode are you using and what is your contrast set to?
