Sometimes they will refund you if the price goes down within 15 days. Just a thought.

I just looked and the gt does qualify for the "tv low price guarantee". If you find it at a qualifying site for cheaper within 14 days of shipping they will refund the difference. KEEP AN EYE OUT.

Do you mean a yes/no "crap" option? Nope. wink.gif

A quality professional calibration should improve the quality of good DVD movie transfers. There just isn't much you can do for SDTV on big screens. What goes in is bound to come out of the other end.

Dave

It works fine with mt I-pad and lap-top but as I indicated I have never tried it with the TV. I have the optical hooked to my reciever. Bluetooth seems to work fine for stereo but as far as I can tell it has no support for multi-channel audio which is why I never tried using it with the TV. I went with that unit simply because it appeared to be the most popular and liked unit on Amazon but I have nothing to compare it with. Hope it serves your purpose.

Here is what's coming in my next update:

Picture settings for VIERA Connect (Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant, VUDU, DLNA, etc.).

the only way is to go into the service menu and under the "aging" function you can select from a variety of test screens, and one of them is the moving white vertical bar.
In the service menu, there is no time limit, so I used that overnight early on to eliminate some IR.

I believe that they are there (on my GT) as they were intended to be there as per the movie and what the director wanted to see. All other content does not typically show them. I did run my set on the standard picture setting, from the begining(about 150 hours) to let the set settle in and also ran and still run the anti-image retention program weekly.

I hope Pauls steps up to the plate for you!!!

My experience with Paul's TV continues to be completely underwhelming. As promised, they called Saturday to confirm the Sunday delivery beteween 12-3. Awesome. A half hour later, the local warehouse called and said they are "oversold" on that model and could not deliver it Sunday. They would have more in on Monday or Tuesday and would call at that time to reschedule. This is one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. Don't get me started on Comcast....

That would be me. i am having the same issue. I am waiting for the tv to be exchanged. See the above post. Good luck.

Is this really an "issue" or are the blue streaks something that happens when flashlights, boatlights, and other lights are shining at the camera at certain angles in these scenes and possibly an effect they wanted to leave in the film? I've seen these blue streaks also but since they are only scenes like I discribed with flashlights, I don't think this is a problem with the panel. I could have paused at least three movies this weekend and taken similar pictures to post but I'm pretty sure if I were to watch those same movies on my old LCD that I'd see the same thing. Have you guys tried the same scenes on other TVs? I'd just hate to see the disappointment when/if this happens on replacement sets.

Here are some images from my original post

No, I have not tried it on a different set as that would not be very practical for me.
You can see in the first two pictures it is not always a streak. It is a horizontal blue line that runs across the screen and is exactly the width of the light source. I am familiar with lens flare, lighting techniques that directors use to intentionally create different effects. I don't think the images above fall into that catagory. Especially the third picture which is actually just a commercial with Dwayne Johson. There is no artistic reason for those blue streaks to be shooting across his shirt. Other people who have seen it agreed and I sent the pictures to Paul's TV and they agreed and put in an order to have my set swapped. That's good enough for me. I guess I will have to wait and see if it happens on the new set and decide what to do from there. Paul's hasn't gotten their act together on delivery of the new set yet.
On a side note, I do find it interesting that electricmanscott is also from Massachusetts. It makes me wonder if we bought from the same batch. Just thinking out loud....
I'll keep everyone posted.

P.S. Although looking at Scott's photos, I am not sure he is having the same problem as me.

In that case, I do hope you have better luck the second time around. I'm from PA and i'm seeing blue streaks in content but only on scenes where there are flashlights, car lights, etc. but not at all times or for all lights in movies. I've played other content with spots on the screen that were equally as bright but saw no blue streaks which in my case just makes me think it's intended in some scenes. Out of curiosity, what was the Dwayne Johnson commerical advertising? I'd like to YouTube and take a look for myself.

Edit: Take a look at this link (scroll towards the bottom) Apparently there is a "blue streak" effects filter that is sometimes used on cameras. http://www.fdtimes.com/news/page/2/

Here is one example on that link:

Nice, look forward to that, I've been using cnets for that mode.

Well that is fascinating. it looks very much like what I have been seeing.
I wish I could remeber the commercial. It ran during the AFC Champiomship game the weekend befor last. It mas have been a CBS commercial.
The first movie I noticed it on was Looper.

I wonder how hard it would be to find optimum picture settings for just hockey. I personally think HD-Masters settings are awesome for all content but hockey just doesn't look good on this tv. For only hockey I personally liked the cnet settings marginally better but still nothing to run home and tell mom about. Of course I have a Pioneer Elite 151 that might be causing me to expect more than the GT50 is capable of.

I tried to find the commercial with not luck. Either way, I hope you get a great 2nd panel; I know the anticipation must be torture.

Thanks. Pauls is completely inept. I am on hold with them right now. They say they are out of stock and have no more due in....

No more 55GT50's in inventory and no more coming in. They are talking about bumping me up to a 55VT50. Thoughts anyone? His offer was +$200. I said i am not paying more. He said he would have to speak to his supervisor and call me back. I know it's a better tv but i have read some things about the VT's having more subdude colors or not playing quite as bright ad the ST or the GT due to the better black filter. Can anyone advise? Time is of the essence as I am waiting for a call. Thank you very much.
Personally I would stick to my guns and not pay more. But in the end is your decision. Is Money back not an option to go shop somewhere else?

It's up to them to provide an equal replacement or if equal is not available then better in my opinion. That said, if someone wanted to upgrade me to a VT for no extra cost, I'd take it. Otherwise, I'd make them find me a GT. It's still available and they could order one for you I'm sure. I'd tell them to buy it from Amazon and have it shipped to you...whatever it takes. Once they agreed to take yours back, it's up to them to honor that agreement. You could also just have them refund it and buy from somewhere else.
I definately not paying more. With the origonal purchase I got the TV I wanted at the price i wanted.
Haven't gotten to refund stage yet. I know Paul's has a restocking fee but these are exstenuating circumstances so we'll see what goes on with that.

He said they are over sold by three, company wide. They have no more and won't be getting any more.I could throw the Amazon thing out there, see what he says. If it comes down to it, I will have them take it back and get one elsewhere but it seems neater and cleaner this way. LOL, maybe not. I paid $1250 and Amazon is at $1350 right now. Right now I have my foot in the door at Paul's.

boy oh boy. My box store who's been selling the 60gt50 for $1932 forever...
and recently dropped it down to $1873.

Has skyrocketed the price up to $2193.

My guess is these TVs are now exhausted in the supply chain.

(3d glasses went up to $80 as well)
