I did luck out and get BestBuy to pricematch the Sears $30 deal a few days ago. That deal would be dead though as Sears now lists the glasses at retail price. Price went back up the day I got back from BB.

Any word out if the 2013 glasses are going to be better or cheaper?

Not too shabby for $48. I'm still on the fence, but may go ahead and jump the gun on that one for me and the wife.

Are there any truly comparable 3d glasses that work just as well for the GT50 for less?

I'm thinking of picking up 2 pair of Panny originals, but getting some cheapies for guests.

Still want them to be impressed.

Also - what do you guys think about the 3D on this GT50 compared to LG's passive 3D? I was extremely impressed by it when demoing, but couldn't bring myself to buy a LED with the inferior PQ, clouding, and limited viewing angle. Plasma still way ahead imo.

Passive can be easier on the eyes in regards to eye strain, but offers less resolution as well.

I purchased the Samsung 3D glasses SSG-4100GB and they work fine. They are cheaper, less than $19, but require using small batteries which are very cheap. I don't have a set of Panisonic glasses to compare. Maybe someone can comment if there is any difference in the 3D picture quality between the two.

Still waiting on my 60GT50 to be delivered. Seems Paul's TV shipping is not the fastest..
Been "In Transit" for 6 days from Massachusetts to Philadelphia. Estimated delivery is Feb. 4th.

My suggestion is to check the bezel and the screen really well before signing the paper. I got my 55 last week and there is a small crack on the bezel...picture has no issue but that's the price I paid for not getting it local.

I tried the Panny's and Samsung glasses--couldn't tell any difference in quality.

I know have a passive Panny LED set (55" ET5). I actually prefer the 3D on it. Easier on my eyes, and I notice less blurring/double imaging on things far forward in the 3D space (pop out type effects etc.) than I did on the UT50 I tried for a couple of weeks. The resolution is lower though as things do sometimes look a tad more pixelated than on the plasma when watching 3D. Worthwhile trade off for me personally for the lesser eye strain and less blurring/double imaging (I guess that's what people mean when they talk about cross talk?).

Any suggestions on 3D movies that pop-out of the screen. So far the 3D movies that I have seen have more of a deep "into the screen" effect and very few pop-out effects.

It really varies by manufacturer, most plasma manufacturers dialed down the axis that controls that pop out effect you may not find what youre looking for. Depends on what your expectation of 3d is really I prefer the more subtle effects myself with some ocassional pop out.

They are identical to my eyes in terms of image quality, but the panny glasses envelope your eyes better. The Samsungs don't curve and unless you're in a super dark room will have reflections on the inside of the lenses as to what is lit behind you. Can be annoying but not a deal breaker. One thing I notice is that the Samsungs are not quite as dark, but that might be due to the more open design of the lenses.

Crosstalk = double imaging/ghosting yes I think that is correct. That is what I believe it is anyways. Using a BDP that allows for 24p and changing your TV to 48Hz lessens it considerably, but does not eliminate it altogether

Go here and take a gander. These guys do nothing but post on topics about what you're asking smile.gif

Some of the best pop-out stuff I've ever seen can be seen on youtube. Like this for example. It's also funny to watch the host biggrin.gif Be sure to choose the "side-by-side" method under "3D settings" (or maybe its "interleaved" iirc)

I just randomly did a search on youtube for "best 3d"

The battery is replaceable in the Samsungs? Can you provide a link where I can buy one? How difficult are they to replace?

They just use CR2025 batteries. Non-rechargeable (a plus to me as don't have to worry about being dead when you wan to watch something as long as you keep some extra batteries on hand). They're super easy to replace (just a little pop open cover in the middle of the frame).

The batteries are also dirt cheap. A 5 pack on Amazon (through another seller) is $1.81 with free shipping.

Yes the battery is replaceable. Both the glasses and battery(s) can be purchased at Amazon.com. There is a 5 pack of batteries for less than $2. All you need to do is slide open the battery door on the glasses.

damn, wish amazon would budge on price matching the 3d glasses after the fact

I'm still under 30 days since buying 2 pairs of them at $58

I guess I could just do a return and buy some new ones, would save me 20 bucks

and I also have 2 pairs of the samsungs...I actually prefer wearing them since I feel like the frames don't get in the way of the viewing experience
with the Panny's I feel like I'm fighting to see through the thick frames...but my gf and some other folks have said they like the Panny's better..so I'm keeping a few pairs of both around

No, but if the manual stated to not drive over 50mph for the first 500 miles, I wouldn't go racing through the desert at 150mph.

I remember listening to a CarTalk episode where a guy did exactly that. Burned up his motor in his new Mustang.

Just bought a 55" GT50 from Amazon. It said Only One Left, so here's to hoping that its not a return or something. I will thoroughly check it, and unless its brand new i won't be accepting it. Has anyone had an issue from Amazon in the past? I'd imagine some stores trying to sell their demo units off as new, but at least with Amazon, they don't do any demo's.. At least that's what I'm saying to myself.

Putting my GT25 50" in the bedroom and the G10 46" in my kids room.

I was thinking about waiting for the new 2013 models, but wasn't 100% on the silver base.

Fingers crossed my set arrives PERFECT and not a return.

No doubt, I found adding other users settings and dialing them into custom mode was much better than THX though. I'm getting my TV calibrated by Chad B, just waiting on a timeframe he can do it.

No, IR does affect all the GT and VT sets. Mine and most others do not show any IR. I have never plagued my display with those silly color slides and I never will. If you bought a new car would you put it up on blocks and rev the engine for a weeks before you drove it ?

The slides only serve one real purpose: aging. It takes 100-200 hours before things have settled in. If you hire a professional to calibrate it, they will recommend that you put some hours on it. Plasmas improve with age and that process is a bit more rapid at the very beginning.

Good call. I remember using dnice settings on my g25 and i followed all his directions. Eventually I had it pro calibrated by ken whitcomb and it wasn't even close, the pro calibration was worlds better. The measurements showed the settings I plugged in were still very far off, grayscale wasn't even close. All panels are different and you can't expect to plug in universal settings that would match what a pro can do with your specific set. Heck even something simple like setting contrast and brightness can be a tricky balancing act, I did my gt50 with spears and munsil and I wasn't even close to what chad b did with my user settings. You will really enjoy your set once he's calibrated it for sure.
HD master thank you for your setting. The warm2 has been working really well for me.

I am hoping that someone can help with an issue that I am experiencing with my audio sound. Recently when watching basketball on my TV I've been hearing a pitchy buzzing noise from the TV. At first I thought it was panel buzzing but when I muted the TV to see if it was really the panel or if was coming from the speakers there was no buzzing noise so it was coming fromm the speakers. The buzzing does not last for the entire game but happens often. It seems to happen when the crowd or if the announcer says something loud. The buzzing sound like an echo to announcer voice. The weird thing is that this mostly happen during basketball games and not reg TV programs.

Please help anything will be appreciated. This noise is driving me nuts when watching a game.

Thanks

I don't doubt that your settings for 3D mode will be awesome and I can't wait to get mine! But I have a question, do you have any idea how much light output your 3D settings produce? Just a rough idea is what I'm looking for smile.gif
post #6057 of 9036
Well, I think I might be making the plunge. The price is so low, I can't see why I wouldn't go for it. Just always thinking of the new model coming out...got that still syndrome atm.

That's a tough syndrome. There will always be that next greatest thing. Only way to cure it is do what you did and bite the bullet and enjoy what you have/get :-)

Well, it's been about a decade since I last posted here but I'm taking delivery of a 65GT50 tomorrow from BB. Bought it online last week and saw it cheaper on Amazon and thought I'd go into my brick and mortar locally and see if they'd price match. Turns out BB had lowered their price just today for the same price. Score! Saved me a buck 50 and that paid for a pair of Panny glasses and a set of the Samsungs.

I've owned a 50" Panny plasma for the past 5 years and while it's black levels aren't the best, I love the PQ. I used to sell these things and I knew some of the issues with plasma, but I have had none of the issues with my old unit and I'm not the least bit worried about the incomer.

Upgraded my AVR to a Yamaha RX-V773 and BDP to a Sony BDP-S790. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

I don't have access to my files at the moment, but I believe that it was between 35-40 fL.
