Turns out BB had lowered their price just today for the same price. Score! Saved me a buck 50 and that paid for a pair of Panny glasses and a set of the Samsungs.

I've owned a 50" Panny plasma for the past 5 years and while it's black levels aren't the best, I love the PQ. I used to sell these things and I knew some of the issues with plasma, but I have had none of the issues with my old unit and I'm not the least bit worried about the incomer.

Upgraded my AVR to a Yamaha RX-V773 and BDP to a Sony BDP-S790. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
Nice! I also came from a 50" panny plasma '08. You'll be quite pleased with the significant upgrade.

Can't get the Panny glasses at any of the 10 best buys in my area, they are all sold out. None on order. Not available on Panasonic's website either. Makes me hope that the new glasses are on the way soon. I wonder what they will be like?

Not fussed of 3D glasses. Will probably get a pair when I feel like doing so.

Only question is, will 2013 glasses work with 2012 plasma display models?

Just an update for anyone following my DLNA adventures. Since my last post I have mainly been working on upgrading all my wirless components. But in addition I have been trying out the various media players.

Twonky, Nero, I was going to try tversity but looks like its a paid app now, windows media player, P3Media Player, Tvmobilli and of course Serviio. I have come to the conclusion that none of them can overcome the DLNA shortcomings of the Panasonic plasma.

I have resigned to streaming via the PS3 which I have hooked into this tv for streaming. It handles media formats much better and seems to seems to accept the transcoding on files it cant nativley play much beter. I still basiclaly cannot play any type of AVIs at all (transcoded since natively it wont work) and get audio format not supported and also have issue playing some mkv's with a similar error. Its really way behind Samsung which is sad since the picture is gorgeous. I can try plex but I dont think it will matter.

I was hoping to get the DLNA working on my TV for the kids its just much easier to access. I am contemplating converting the 40 or so kids movies I have via Nero to mp4 just so they can use the DLNA of the set and the added benefit of streaming to the IPAD. Overall very disappointed. The other negative is since ps3 is wirless g only I had hoped to use the TV since likely I can get more wirless bandwidth to that device for my own HD streaming needs. I did find a Netgear wireless N adaptor that connects to the ps3 wired and I am using that atm to increase the lan bandwidth. I am stil not there yet HD streaming wise and may evaluate powerline device but I also have a hunch some of the stutter maybe from pc and not my wireless. I never thought it would take this much effort as my Samsung was just plug it in stream whatever and away you go. This was really one of the major reasons of upgrading this set I should have done more investigation.

If anyone has any success streaming avis from a Media App that will properly transcode to the GT50 I would love to hear from you so send me a PM.

That is because they went from being IR to RF/Bluetooth. That is the only reason why the 2011 glasses didn't work with the 2012 Panasonics.

Makes sense. So you have read from a credible source that it is 100% for sure that the 2012 and 2013 Panasonic glasses will be interchangeable?

That's what I was told by someone with Panasonic, but we don't have anything documented to prove it yet. It makes sense though and I'm very confident that's the case.

Very well. Thanks. That would make sense to me also. It seems that Panasonic are not making the 2012 glasses anymore because they are becoming very difficult to find. So no one is restocking the 2012s because they are waiting on the 2013s which would work for both. I just didnt want to be telling a bunch of people that the 2013 work with the 2012 and have them all wanting to kill me later.

I'm curious, I use THX cinema setting on my 60GT50 and I'm happy with it, but sometimes its too dim. If I increase the contrast from the default 75 it doesn't do much. THX bright room is too weird looking even if I decrease the contrast.. anyone have any ideas?

Also, I didn't realize if u use netflix there is no thx setting?

Thanks

The glasses I ordered on Jan 4th for $29 are supposed to be in my box store today for pickup.

I'll let you guys know if they arrived or not.

EDIT: just called them. the lady said the glasses are marked as discontinued.

I've had some success streaming from my laptop to the TV using DivX+. If you get DivX+ installed on a pc you can then register other devices. You point DivX to a folder you want to share and this appears on the TV in the media server list in Viera Tools. Hope this is some help.

+++1, Great settings.........Will make your 60GT50 come to life as mine did. I still use the THX Brightroom on very sunny days when I am watching from 2-4 pm (not too often). Other than that I am on HD-Masters Warm2 Night settings.

Also, I believe that his Viera Cast setting will cover you in netfilx if you are going through the TV/Viera apps. Not sure though as I haven't played with them much if at all!!!

See if they'll honor the price and hold your order till the 2013 model comes out.

Found this in another thread here on AVS and thought I would post it just in case someone didn't know this..........oh, that would be me!

"Does anyone have details on exactly what the "Mode" switch on top of the Panny glasses is doing? All I know is it makes a HUGE difference on 3D viewing when the "right" mode is toggled. I just end up cycling the switch until the 3D pops, but wonder what is happening here..."

Reply: "It lets a person sensitive to 3D watch in 2D mode with a 3D movie playing."

Indoor Sports in GAME mode. Works really well for basketball and hockey. I cut the contrast to 80,sharpness to 0 and knocked the color back a bit. It is very competitive with HD-Master's Custom settings for these sports. For golf, Game mode makes the grass greener than it is. Football is competitive. Also, some commercials might look a little garrish. Also you cannot change Size2. It can be the "Fun" mode for this fantastic tv
post #6079 of 9047
Thanks I can get that far with most of the software i have mentioned but now its down to the small details.

Since Panasonic Plasma doesnt natively support AVi you have to use a media player that will transcode the video on the fly into an acceptable format for the Panasonic Plasma to play. This is why i have been testing the various players some have this functionand others do not they just pass the format it is currently in.

Serviio seems the most promising to overcome the formats the Panasonic fails to handle natively. I am not sure how much time you have spent with Divx plus or if it can do on the fly transcoding to assist the Pannasonic with formats its doesnt natively support.

Also serviio has some nice Thumnail generation where it goes to the web and grabs the movie cover for you and while small looks pretty cool to me.

is there an option on the GT50 to flip the right eye and left eye for 3D content?
I have a mkv movie that has the 2 sides reversed.
I can flip the glasses but was wondering if there is a better option.

Yes, there is an option in the menu for that.

any one here watch NHL hockey on there plasma gt 50's?

just wondering if you can see the puck on the plasma after a booming slap shot from the point?

is the vt a much better picture for the almost doubling of the price over gt?

thanks

Okay, got another question. I believe the GT50 can do a conversion of a 2-D signal to 3-D. Of this though I am not really sure and I will check it out, but has anybody done this or watched football games or sports that way. I was thinking of watching the Super Bowl using that feature if it can be done. Thanks for the help.
Hey guys. I've had the 50" GT50 for a few weeks now and I love the picture on it, but I think I might have a problem. You can notice it mostly on the green screen before the movie trailer. It seems like greyish looking lines comes out from the white letters to both sides of them. Does anyone else have this issue or am I just being paranoid? Here is the picture I took with my iPhone. Ignore the black spec of dust on the lens.

I have used the 2d to 3d conversion on a couple of movies but not sports. It wont hurt anything and does look ok but not nearly as good as real 3d.

That effect is called line bleed, it's a common trait of plasmas. That screen image is the biggest offender. Sometimes you'll see it like when there's a horizontal white bar across the screen and a person in front of it, that person will have a ghost of that bar on his face. 99% of the time you'll never see it.

1. you're paranoid. wink.gif
2. it's called 'line bleed' and is common with plasma screens.

Menu -> Setup -> 3D settings -> Left/Right swap

Or if you are using Viera Tools or Apps:

Menu -> 3D settings -> Left/Right swap

Just FYI. Went to the local Best Buy and they price matched the Samsung glasses at $17.99 which is target.com's online price. These are great if you're looking for a couple of spare sets for guests. I also got them because the Panny's are out of stock and it looks like I'll be waiting for the 2013 model.
