For example using the tier rankings of BD software forum at this site:

I will interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to inform you to update your link for the Blu-ray Picture Quality Tiers. That is the older thread and has not been updated since May. The current PQ Tiers (an excellent way to find demo material is by picking from Tier 0) can be found here:

Awesome! How is this set though? Are the placed into tiers based on viewing them and judging, or is there information released somewhere with each disc saying how they were mastered and at what bit rate, etc?

I don't see why they would; the ST60 is the replacement for the ST50 (neither has the THX modes nor 4 HDMI inputs) and it isn't an equitable replacement for the GT50. But the good thing is that it looks like a GT50 wink.gif

Now, I may...for the sake of giving people options...do a day, mid, and night calibration the next time.
I saw exactly what Chad mentioned. I had to turn the Color setting down a bit more with Wide compared to Normal. While it required more 2-pt adjustment the result was a lower average dE and more consistent greyscale, gamma, and color temperature.

The Viera Connect night config makes sense and I'd imagine more people are in that boat anyway.

I imagine that adjusting the comparable color settings for the VT50 would be a bit more challenging, especially considering the increased quantity of adjustments. It's one of those times where if it isn't broken, don't fix it wink.gif. If D-Nice decides to revisit this isn't known, but the fact that there are people like him, Chad and you that help the community like this is a wonderful thing. Thanks again for all you do!

The insider on another forum has said that internally they see the ST60 as a replacement of the GT50 more so than a simple continuation of the ST50 line. I guess we'll see how it all shakes out soon enough though. My guess would be that it fall somewhere in between as a successor to both lines.

That's the 1st good thing I've heard about that site.

I have heard lots of good and bad about Pauls TV.

I would phrase that thusly:
"But the good thing is that it looks somewhat like GT50".

Put them side-by-side and the difference is readily apparent, however.

based on all the reviews and everything I've heard I tend to doubt it

Thanks for the information; my link is now updated.

BTW, BD titles used for my GT50 PQ analysis are:
  • The Pacific - HBO
  • Ratatouille - Pixar
  • The Sound of Music (45th Anniversary Edition) - Fox
  • Watchmen (Director's Cut) - Paramount

I actually meant physically different. No difference in PQ or SQ other than what I've noted elsewhere in thread. wink.gif

my experience with Paul's TV has been good. But I have a B&M store near me so the only thing I used their website for was to get a lower price instore. They matched their own online price. Ha!

I also had no problem with them. Their sales guys are like any other, but are willing to talk and don't pressure. I don't have a B&M store near me so I went fully online, had an issue that was dealt with promptly without any hassle and can say that I'm a happy customer.

Amazon would have been faster and probably a bit better when it comes to delivery, but in this case I felt more comfortable dealing with a company that specifically handles this type of product and any questions can be answered outside of reading off a spec sheet.

Oh ok. Yes I agree. But the new ST60 looks pretty slick!

did anyone watch the State of the Union speech last night? I thought Barack Obama's face looked a little bit greenish on my new 50GT50, I tried to adjust the white balance, once I was able to get rid of the greenish tint, the pic looks a bit reddish. and Then I saw this news article online at the URL below with a picture of Barack Obama, he too looks a bit greenish on my monitor. So maybe my WB was right on? So did he look greenish on your GT50?

Maybe he was sick about the state of the Union.

Yes I watched part of it. His skin tone is interesting. Never met him in person, but I've never thought he had any kind of red in his skin tone at all. Who knows though? I have a 24" H-IPS color calibrated monitor and his color looks exactly like it did last night on 2 of the 4 channels and exactly like your linked article. I guess you could say a slight tinge of green maybe?

I switched around last night since it was on 4-5 stations. Funny to see the differences in the broadcasting (colors and resolution).

I did the same and counted 12 different stations covering the State of Union address. At least half were noticeably different. Yet according to a friend of mine who works for the local tv station they all have access to the same feed. Shows that even if you calibrate your GT50 per specs they might look not right depending on the station you are viewing and how they are broadcasting the signal.

I must be remembering it different than - i thought he said something to the effect that the GT50 sales in NA under-performed in 2012 while the ST50 was a huge success so they dropped the GT class and continued with the ST class since it has a more well known model recognition.

Regardless, feature-wise the ST60 is lacking some very important things that differentiated the GT50 from the ST50 (THX modes, 4 HDMI inputs) and seems more like an evolution of the ST50.

Just an FYI, if you head over to Tweakmytv.com. You will see the ins and outs of 3D calibration. You will benefit even more by having them professionally calibrate it by attaching the 3D glasses to the light meter itself. If that is not done, you will never get a proper 3D calibration.

I did,, and noticed the same.

I also thought Joe Biden looked like he was auditioning for "The Walking Dead".....

Yes, that is the only way 3D can be calibrated.

Is that how you did your settings for 3D mode? I figure I'll just use yours when I take delivery smile.gif

Hey for all the pros out there I just got around to filling out the product registration online and it refers to serial number on the rear of the model. well mine is mounted to the wall above the fireplace and no way its coming down so is there another way to get it. I googled and stumbled accross a thread for service menu to check hours that sort of referred to serial # being in there but after looking it didnt jump out at me.

I also found it odd they dont requrie that during registration do i even need to bother?

Should be on the box if you still have it.
