I'm a really horrible photographer but I'll give it a shot. We're going to see if we can't level the panel out tomorrow and so photos will have to wait until after that.

I don't understand why anyone expects that you can record an image of a 1920x1080 display using a sensor with a completely different resolution and then display it on a computer screen with yet another completely resolution and get any useful information out of the process. Seriously, people; think about it.

And with bad lighting conditions for almost any type photography too.

Looking at purchasing the 55 GT50 very soon and was hoping to get answers to a couple of questions:

- Can someone post measurements of the 55 inch GT50 stand (Length and width)

- Does the stand for the 55 inch set swivel?

- Last question I had was about seating distance. I want to get an immersive 2D and especially 3D viewing experience with this set. Should I look to go even bigger and aim for the 60 inch GT50 if my sitting distance is a maximum 8 feet? The Majority of my viewing will be blu ray and HD OTA channels.

Thanks!

If 3D is important to you, then you should really try it out, since it's a personal preference. I prefer passive but find the 3D on the GT50 to be very good and like it better than Samsung's.

Thanks, that's good advice

So is THX bright room pretty effective?

I'm well aware that photographs are of little use for indicating the TV's PQ, what I'm interested in are the aesthetics of the TV itself. Excellent point, though; I should have thought about it before I asked.

I don't think anyone expects photo's of someone's TV to show top PQ. IMHO, for most I think it's just fun to see the pics of someone's new plasma and it gives people like me (who is waiting for my 55GT50 delivery any day now) something to look forward to.

Only 50" sets have swivel stand.

That makes sense, it IS fun to see people's set ups. I just often see people assessing image quality off these pics and wanted to share a cautionary thought.

Slightly off topic. How comfortable are people using the provided tabletop stand with a 65" display? I won't have romping big dogs and won't need to get behind it, but if a breeze from the heat duct hits it I don't want to be concerned it will blow over I've been looking at a Salamander floor mount but it's pretty expensive and everything in my theater is being replaced, so I'm flat broke

Thanks.

Any news on the 65GT50?

I went by my BB yesterday, and they have a SKU that shows the price, but they still won't let me order one (they say it messes up their inventory, because you have to order a phantom TV, then return it when it comes in, skewing the inventory/sales numbers). The guy I talked to (not my normal guy), said they hope to have them in the warehouse in a week, but we've all heard that before . . .

The BB SKU for the 65" GT50, by the way, is 5025207.

I think the stand is 20" wide by 14" deep. In the 2nd post of this thread i linked the Quick Start Guide which has line drawings with all the various dimensions shown.

No. None of the 55", 60", or 65" models swivel. You can buy a swivel platform to place the TV on"

15" x 25" for $64 http://www.bestvaluetvswivels.com/blacklcd.htm

Or just buy the swivel mechanism alone and build your own:

How do you guys rate the 3d of this set, crosstalk, brightness..... I had a vt30 and the 3d was good but it could have been brighter and a reduction in crosstalk would be nice.

Nope. I thought it did but apparently not...

It could be slightly brighter, but bear in mind that my tv has not been calibrated either.

Read post 605 to see why some people might choose to use tv speakers in some scenarios (hint: neighbors in apartment buildings do not appreciate my surround activities).

Brightness is of course less than non-3D viewing but it was still more than adequate in a dimly-lit room. Probably unwatchable in a bright room though.

My set does show a little bit of crosstalk, but I don't know if that's typical or how bad it is compared to whatever is considered average. It's only noticeable when there is a bright object against a dark background, but in rare and extreme cases it can be distracting enough to break the 3D effect. Switching the 24p setting from 60hz to 48hz helped that a lot however.

With the inherent off-axis viewing problems of LCDs and RPTVs, I can understand why people would want swivel mounts or stands, but why would that be an important feature for plasmas?

Only showing MSRP. I wonder what it actually is, all the others are around $200 off.

Thanks for the reply everyone. I guess that leaves the question of size. Is the 60 inch pushing it too close for someone sitting just 8 feet away? I know you can never go too big and 3D viewing will be really immersive but I'm wondering if that's such a good thing with 2D. Again, I will mostly be watching blu ray and HD OTA Primetime so high quality sources for the most part. Dithering for example is one I'm concerned about.

Does anyone know if Squaretrade Warranties cover IR/BI issues?

Have been checking online and can't find a solid answer.

Would like to have peace of mind, just in case....

not worried about movies / tv - I am worried about video games with a constant HUD.

Cooking....

Not everyone's tv sits in the most perfect spot.

I find that 48hz is unwatchable with the flicker. Even 60hz can be noticeable when looking out the corner of your eyes. Six years ago I could only use 100Hz CRT monitors because 60Hz bothered me. This is the only thing LCD TV's and Monitors have over CRT and Plasmas IMO.

No. They will warranty only what the manufacturer warrants.

I have noticed lately that if I have a light on directly in front of my GT50 that the reflection goes from the top of the screen to the bottom but the images are green and red above and below the white lights reflection image. Kind of hard to explain. I'm guessing this has something to do with the black filter or the anti reflection film? Not really an issue for me since I usually don't have this light on.
