If it has a fan, it's either very quiet or hasn't turned on yet.

As far is I know none of the Panny plasmas have fans I dont think that is very common anymore at all

Good damn question! I found the ONLY PNE8000 within a 55 mile radius, and quickly purchased it. I was hoping the panny models would be out within my 30 day return policy so I could do a compare, but nothing.. Oh I did manage to find a 'display' GT50 at BB the other day, but would still have to wait a week for actual delivery.

Looks like Best Buy has the 50", 55" and 60" available on their website. Notes it will ship in 3-5 days.

That's crazy! Glad you found one though. Looks like I'll wait til the end of the month and hopefully catch a sale as well. I don't want to blind buy again, like I did with the UND8000. I want to see these sets in person.

This year for Europe at least its only the VT50 that has fans, the GT50, ST50 etc have no fans.

Accoding to avJunkie, at the other forum. only the 50' ST50 did not have fans while the 55' and larger TVs in the ST line do have fans. I am hoping this is replicated in the GT line.

I spoke with Panasonic support and ended up scheduling a service call for Friday to get the buzzing sorted out.

She asked me to stand 6 feet away and tell her if I could still hear it. Since I can very clearly hear it from my seated position of 7' she very quickly went and processed the service call. For those wondering how loud the buzzing should get....

As many have previously posted, it's very hard to find individuals reporting that the display they bought was too big.

If I had a dedicated room with a front projector filling a 128" screen, I might want something smaller for some types of viewing. I've been at 50", and now am at 60". With changes in bezel width, I could put a 65" display in the same spot with only 1" difference in width. I don't think I would want a 70" - 80" display in our small living room just because of it's presence when we weren't watching.

A lot of people watch HD material on 60" screens from 8'. That's probably in the sweet spot for seeing the detail present in high quality HD source material.

Eight feet might not be ideal for SD DVDs. We still watch movies that are not yet available on Blu-ray. We almost never watch SD TV. I'm sure that would be pretty bad. Also, we are two to three feet further back.

You can take a tape measure to test for yourself, or you can buy from a dealer with a trouble free return policy. I think testing for yourself is the best plan.

Dithering shouldn't be a problem.

You guys are pretty abusive.
If I spent $1500 for a TV I would expect a level TV. And if the base is 1/8" off the edges of the TV would be a lot more.

Sorry that some of us pay attention to details and want things they pay for correct.

If you guys had a choice between a 55"VT50 or a 60"GT50 - which would you choose?

If you watch a lot of SD then you may have some regrets, but then again you may choose to never watch SD again (or at least rarely).

Can those of you with 50'' and/or 55'' GT50's please comment on how much IR your TV's get, both before and after break in period.

I am about to make the switch from my 51''E8000 to either a 50'' or 55'' GT50. I am not concerned with actual burn in, but my 8000 has minimal IR. As long as the IR on the GT is not so bad that it is noticeable during normal viewing, i am ok with it.

I messed around with a 50'' GT at the store and just in the few moments it took to switch inputs, the "HDMI 1" logo was a very visible left over in the top left corner of the black screen that followed! This seems like extreme IR to me. The TV was new to the store so maybe the fact that it might not have been broken in was making it worse...?

Also is there a difference in IR between the 50'' and 55'' GT models?

I've read reports about displays that have almost instant IR, but that it fades away in a few seconds. If the set you saw was new, and it was cranked up like BB likes to do, you were probably seeing that same sort of IR. If you could go to a black screen five minutes after switching inputs, with normal settings for home viewing, and got the same result, I would be concerned.
