heres a good question. Do you try to jump on one of the early introductory sales on a new panny or wait till july and hope for better deals?
Sometimes there is an introductory sale and then that price doesnt get beat for a long time.

Yea but if you had to get one before july 5th. I notice sometimes when the set very first releases there are sometimes introductory sales and then that price goes up quickly and doesnt go back below that original sale for a long time. Should I try to find an early sale when it first releases or wait it out till july trying for a deal.

If I had to get one by July then I'd wait a bit longer to see if the price drops again or merchants start offering deals. I did read someone mention that deals may come but no one has said when. I wish they would throw in some glasses, I don't need a 3D blu-ray player, I have three already.

Edit: You'll also want to wait to see if owners have any problems etc.

BTW, I have itchy fingers about buying right now. I've waited a year and I want it tomorrow. Amazon makes it too easy to just jump. I must remain prudent.

Many times over the years I have seen lots of folks have the same questions you do and there really isn't an easy answer as to when prices will change. Usually by fall, but many times the price drop isn't that significant. Depends on so many variables it is really hard to predict. What is ironic is that by the time fall and winter get here many say " maybe I'd better wait for the new models next year, it's not that far off and maybe( based on speculation) they will really have something new". Most of the time the changes aren't really that great and seldom do the prices come down a lot. I have done that many times myself in the past and now finally when I decide a TV is the one I want I go ahead and get it and am much happier about it. Just my personal observation.

I think the GT30 bezel was gray where as the GT50 is black. Looks really nice IMHO.

I bought the 42G25 in January 2011. The MSRP was $1199 and I paid $599 New from Amazon.

rikemomo, the new TV looks great! Is that the 55"? My 55" GT50 is on the way and should be arriving on Tuesday, can't wait!

Delivery notice on my 55" GT50 was received and is also on its way. Estimated is 4/10 so you should start seeing these sets pop up more very soon.

I'm new to the AVS forums and new to Home Theater in general. I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and was wondering if anyone had a good contact for callibration for my GT50 when I get it.

From looking at the manual it looks like you can use a usb keyboard and game controllers. Seen something about bluetooth keyboard and headphones. Where these options available last year?

Hey rikemomo thanks for the pics it's little crazy because i just brought a 50gt50 today and i have exactly the same ikea stand as you do it's nice to know how mine will look once it's on there. I will also post pics on this thread once it's been delivered.

Can i ask what size your tv is?

Use the two links in the signature area at the bottom of my post. You can find calibrators that travel to your area in one thread, and check out their work in the other (post #2 for flat panel displays). So far no one has recommended BB's "free" calibration.

I have been looking closely at both the 60GT50 and the 60ST50. By looking at pictures online I do not see much difference in appearance between the GT and the ST. The overall dimensions of the two are also very close. I think I will be going with the ST after reading comments from D-Nice. I'm upgrading from a TH-50PH9UK so either one will be a huge improvement (I hope).

I took her to see the ST50 at BB the other day and they had a GT30 nearby (which apparently looks very much like the GT50, with a little bit thicker bezel), and she thought the ST looked "plastic-y" in comparison (I agree, but apparently don't mind as much). I may use her logic of "it looks so much better and it's only a few hundred more" to attain a VT50, as I don't really see the point in a GT.

Thanks. I will have to check out both models at BB. If the ST does look cheaper then I might have to reconsider the GT. I plan on having this new plasma for quite awhile so it will be worth it to have one that looks the best.

That's one of two reasons I'm choosing the GT over the ST.

November through February. I actually saw a better price in December than November. Late February mid March was the best time price wise to buy a VT30.

This is my plan this year (wait until December and just check prices since the retailer I buy from gives me a 60 day price reduction guarantee) when I upgrade to a VT50.

I agree. The last time I bought it was in late January and I got an awesome deal on an excellent tv.

I've had a 50" GT50 for a couple of days and the buzzing is insane. It's not too bad on an average lit scene but anytime the scene gets bright or if you're using the web browser with the bright white background the buzzing goes through the roof. I can hear it easily at 10 feet away. I don't know if I should have it exchanged or what. Anyone else experiencing heavy buzzing on white or bright backgrounds? I have 2 other Panasonic plasmas and they are absolutely quiet.

That's hilarious! I keep looking for new stands, but this one works for me and matches the speakers pretty nicely! I have the 50" version of the set--55" just would be too big for my room, I am sad to say.

In reply to the other questions:

1 - The subwoofer is a 10" SVS Sub and it's glorious. I wish I could go bigger, but you can see, I don't have a lot of room.


2 - I have no problems with the center speaker being that close to the ground; I use the Audyssey setup and make manual adjustments to the crossover to take full advantage of the sub and have never been distracted by the center channel's position. My seating position is about 10-11' away so it works out.

Your unit has to be defective. I only hear the buzzing if my head is literally right next to the set. That sucks, sorry to hear you are having this problem!!

It looks like a nightmare, right? The center is a Axiom Audio VP-100 v2 and I will admit that I was indeed worried about it, but I honestly can tell you it sounds just as good as when I had a larger center channel sitting on top of the case in front an older TV--and clearly looks a lot better this way. There might be some issues that I am just not hearing, but like I said in another post, I have used the 8-point Audyssey setup and adjusted the crossovers and the imaging is just fine. But yeahI bet I can make it sound better, but then the Wife Acceptance Factor plummets and I was already on thin ground replacing a "totally fine" 42" with a 50"!

Someday when I have a real room I'll had it properly set up...

These plasmas seem to be about the same thickness of the LED's anymore. That picture makes the 50GT50 look thicker than the 55ST50 I seen at BB. Probably just the picture angle etc... I know when I was checking the LED TV's that they may be slightly thinner but at the bottom were the speakers are at they are actually thicker than these plasmas! Pretty impressed with the thinness of these plasmas these days!
