New Movie Releases???

IIRC, some movies can be watched "On Demand" from Satellite and Cable sources fairly close to their release dates.

- Secretly install a wireless 3G network camera in your local theater
- Setup the receiver software on your HTPC
- Watch the latest releases
- Live the rest of your life without patience or reasonable expectations

Start up your own movie theater ..

Vudu does, too. They have some pre-theater also, IIRC. eg. Goon.

Theaters don't purchase new movies. The movie studios license the movies to the theaters with the expectation that the theaters will sell tickets and return a significant chunk of the income generated back to the movie studio. When the movie's theatrical run is done, the theater returns the movie to the studio.


Theaters don't project movies from Blu-ray. They project from either 35mm film prints or encrypted digital hard drives. I doubt your home is equipped for either.

Ditto on Vudu. Granted, not every movie is available pre-theater or during the theater run, but they do have some.

Also, they will cost you. I think I paid $12 for Hobo with a Shotgun and $16 for something else (which may or may not be expensive, depending on your thoughts of how much you pay for a theater ticket for one person vs. being able to watch it at home with several people).

You can also do this with some other providers, but in all cases, the selection is limited and there's really no legal way to get the majority of movies during the theater run.

Besides, those movies are just not for sale, yet. And studios need to make money too. The theatrical run is part of the process, um, I guess...

We usually wait about 3-4 months before a movie is available on home video. Why is it so important for you to own the movie while it's still in theaters?

Is this thread a trolling post? Seriously, wanting blu-rays before they hit theaters? Do you have any idea how movies are distributed?

You can if you own a movie theater and negotiate presentation rights with a distributor.

It won't be cheap. But you said cost won't be an issue, so assuming you have a couple million, you might pull it off. Assuming you can stay in business as an independent cinema.


Those have set release dates. If you're an average schlub like most of us, you buy them along with everyone else.

You want movies on Blu-ray before they hit the theaters? Get a job in Hollywood, work your way up to high up studio executive. You'll get to view almost everything before everyone else.

Those are your options.

Well, the best way was already suggested. Vudu.

If you have a device that supports it (all three major game consoles do, as do many blu-ray players), you can see a few select titles. Right now you can watch "Goon" on Vudu, and that is still in theaters. So is the Halle Berry movie, "Dark Tide" (in fact, it was a pre-theatrical release viewable on Vudu.) Tomorrow they'll stream "God Bless America", a Bobcat Goldthwait comedy, before the theatrical release.

Plus, they tend to get movies on or before the DVD/BD release date, well ahead of Redbox or Netflix most of the time. Yes, you pay more, but that's how it goes. And you said money is no object.

Apart from that, no, there is no other outlet, unless you're well connected in Hollywood.
