Instead of posting in two different threads let's use this one. I'll copy over my initial settings.

Most should probably be off. The 10p white balance I'm sure has value but I don't know the best way to go through that. Probably need more advanced tools to do it accurately??

A very few folks are just now getting these. I got mine Tuesday but have only unboxed it. I'll be able to calibrate and view this weekend. I believe insurance and jmt are using their new sets so they will probably chime in soon with opinions on the flashlighting and cloudiness in a dark setting.

I just real quickly applied the D6000 settings from jmt's link and can tell you the 10p white balance settings DO NOT look good on my 46ES6100 at all. The basic backlight, contrast, brightness, color, tint etc are fine to start until you can do a calibration.........but I would turn off the 10p white balance or leave it all at 0 until you know how to properly adjust those settings, which I do not right now.

Definitely. It's noticeably more vibrant. I may calibrate both and use Standard for regular viewing and Movie for movies.

Mine will be 100% movies right now. My main TV is a Panny VT25 plasma which I love, but I like what I see so far with this LED, and it's not calibrated yet.

yeah, i'm still learning a lot of this stuff, but i knew it didn't look right. i only had a few minutes to play with it last night, but i'm gonna try InsuranceWhiz's settings as my start point tomorrow until i can pick up a calibration disc.

Good idea. I haven't posed the question on the forum yet, but let us know if you figure out how and what is needed to properly do the 10p white balance settings.

while we're all trying to figure out the optimal display settings...

has anyone tried streaming music or videos from their home computer to the tv over your wifi? my tv recognizes my laptop, but when i try to select the laptop as an input source, it doesn't let me - i forget what the exact message is that pops up (i'm at the office right now). i was playing with some of built-in features the other day and they seem neat, but after the next week, i probably won't use any of them except for this ability to view/listen to content on the tv from my laptop (or my cell phone or tablet or whatever else i have linked up to my home wifi).

and, out of curiosity, what are your guys' thoughts on the "auto-motion" setting? when set to "standard", the images on the screen look so life-like that it kinda creeps me out (i watched 5 minutes of a rerun of Seinfeld like that last night), so i have mine set to "clear" like InsuranceWhiz. but I do watch A LOT of action movies with crazy special effects and lots of fast-moving action sequences, so that "standard" setting may come in handy for those, right?

no other useful information in this post - just excitement. ha! (sorry - thanks for putting up with me guys. this is my first flat screen tv which replaced a 32" 10-year-old tube tv and i'm loving it so far!) i probably won't have time to shop locally for a calibration disc this weekend, so i just ordered the Blu Ray DVE disc (on sale on amazon.com is anyone else needs it).

I've read on other model Samsung LED threads that "clear" is the best setting I think.

New settings with Disney WOW. Which is awesome btw. Way easier to calibrate than my old Avia.

Set these in Standard only because I prefer it. Will redo in Movie and repost later.

Pic Mode: Standard

BL: 15

Contrast: 98

Bright: 45

Sharp: 25 (impossible to calibrate imo)

Color: 37

Tint: R51

Color Space: Auto

Everything else off

Color Tone: Warm 2

DNF: Low

MPEG: Low

Auto Motion: Clear

Led Motion: Off

Picture looks better than ever on my set. The WOW disc is worth the purchase.

thanks for posting this! i tried your original settings last night and i really love it! (the settings you did in standard mode located here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...6#post21865156 ). i watched Transformers 3 on DVD and then some regular tv shows this afternoon and i'm blown away. i agree with you about the standard mode being more vibrant than the movie mode - it may not be "correct", but i really like it.

my DVE disc should arrive sometime later this week but i may not even bother doing my own calibration now
i'll probably try your new settings from the WOW disc later, but my very untrained eye may not notice much of a difference. heh.

to everyone asking about gaming, sorry guys - the only gaming system i have is original 8-bit nintendo (which isn't hooked up yet), but that probably won't test the set like you'd want.
