if you don't have severe clouding issues, or the other crap that can distracting, then yes it's one hell of a piece of modern technology. i love this thing. i'm going to work the next few days on seeing how bad my issues really are. if there is a change (and someone here says so) that these problems can worsen over time, then it'll be going back. my wife is in love with this techy machine. i on the other hand, would exchange it for a plasma in a heartbeat, if my results turn tits up.

I turned up the backlighting and put into so dark scenes and there is no change as I still have the lower flashlighting, actually in 2 middle places as well as the corners, and patches of fainter white that look like the state of illinois, in the middle area. I'll take this back to the store, show the fellas there, then open a new box and cross check this issue on spot. If problem with new set, getting a refund and going with the LG plasma 42". Will respond with outcome.

Yeah, looks like the firmware update justs "masks" the cloudiness/flashlighting by lowering the default backlight setting. Funny, Sony kind of did the same thing years and years ago to address the numerous complaints people had with their cloudy LCD's. IIRC, their firmware update lowered the maximum backlight setting that you can use. Lame.

I'm not an electrical engineer, but I know enough about how LCD's work to know that the cloudiness is a physical defect, so it can't be fixed with any firmware (electronic) changes. The second link in my post above supports this idea. Analogy would be like trying to fix an engine rattle in your car with ECU software updates when the rattle is actually caused by a loose bolt inside the engine.

i understand you. so, being a defect...meaning they mass produce these things and me getting a cloudy one, is the defect. exchanging may or may not get me a good one. sucks for hhgregg. i may go through their inventory to find the right one. not my problem. just unsure if i want to go to the hassle. if i knew the plasma 720 HD would suffice, (meaning if i'd really notice a difference, being that we only use OTA digital local stations) i just dump this back off, get my $ back and order the LG. nope it's not a locally stocked tv and never will be. always something to fight. thx for you opinion on my above listed question.

I have the UN46ES6100. In the right lower corner, about 12" up and over I noticed a "bright" spot on the screen.
It is about the size of a dime. It changes color with whatever is on the screen and I don't notice it with dark colors.

I can't honestly say whether it's always been there or just popped up, but now it's all I can look at!
Has anyone had this problem or know of a remedy for it?

Hello again, anyone have Dropping Frames/frame skipping problems with Samsung ES6100?, I have observed that the stuttering/dropping frames only appears to happen when using HDMI sources and 23.976fps content with Auto Motion Plus enabled. ONLY Auto motion plus 'Clear mode' plays it properly - not 'Off', 'Standard', 'Smooth', or 'Custom.

The Samsung USB multimedia port don't have this problem with 23.976fps movies, it's only the HDMI port

My local best buy has a 40" d6000 on clearance for $680..Is this years es6100 that much better than the previous gen to purchase for $899. Or would I be better off saving my money and getting the previous gen?

Samsung TV's are a lottery.
HD picture quality looks great, but I think the clouding,the judder and the frame Skipping are a huge issue.
Samsung still refuse to fix these problems; even in the latest generation of TVs.

Samsung suggesting that i leave motion plus OFF during high definition playback (24p) due to the symptoms that occur. But, why should I pay extra for a set to include that feature and not be able to use it at my leisure? I like the Auto Motion Plus effect for movies. My old Samsung LE40B651 do it well.

Unfortunately, turning off Auto Motion Plus is not an acceptable solution to the frame dropping problem for Blu ray/Mkv content, as Auto Motion Plus is the only way for 1080p/24 to be displayed correctly on the Samsung televisions.

I calibrated the UN46ES6100 today with Spectracal software, Colormeter, and VideoForge. I've calibrated many Samsung LED's and Plasma displays and generally don't post findings. The normal calibration modes on the set (Cal-day, Cal-night, and Movie mode) are virtually unwatchable. I measured light output in Dynamic mode at 102fl out of the box and Cal-Day and Movie at 42fl. Another issue i found was Gamma at these modes turned all the way up would not clear 2.4. Simply put, calibrate to Standard Mode only (Dynamic has very few controls and the other modes are not properly calibratable). As a calibrator this is a problem because it disables 10point white balance. Also noticed that off axis viewing is not as good as it was last year with the 6000. I hope that Samsung has a fix for this? As it stands, i wound NOT purchase this TV unless i was planning on watching it in Dynamic mode. Did i fail to mention that Dynamic mode is unwatchable?

I'm considering it solely to be attached to a PC, so it needs native color space (which it appears to have) and 1:1 pixel mapping... but I haven't been able to find any info on the pixel mapping.

There are a few questions that I would like to ask regarding your issue that will help determine the source of the problem.

1. I want to confirm your model code UN37ES6100. This is not a model that Samsung manufactures in the US. Samsung manufactures a 40, 46, 55, and 60 size TV in that series.

2. What file types are you using. What are the video and audio codecs of the files. What program was used to encode them?
I have included a chart that shows the supported Video and Audio codecs of 2012 Samsung TVs.

3. Are you using the TV Speakers or a home theater system for the audio playback?
4. If after you FF or RW the video and then resume playing does the audio sync get better, worse, or stay the same?
5. How much of a time delay is there in the audio/video sync (Millisecond delay, full second, etc.)?
6. Does the audio sync occur on all files or only files of a particular type?
7. Does the audio sync only occur with USB or Network playback but not other sources (i.e. HDMI, Coax, etc.)
8. What firmware version is currently on the TV?
9. Can a sample file be sent to us for testing with our lab units?
I can understand your frustration with trying to resolve this audio sync issue. If you can provide me with the answers to the questions above I will be better able to offer you assistance with this issue. This is not an issue I have come across with your series TV before, usually when I have come across this issue it has been isolated to a particular file, file type, or audio codec being used. I look forward to hearing from you again and helping you resolve this issue.

Can anyone help? Faulty TV?

I know I have seen posts of people complaining about the UN40ES6100 blinking using netflix, but mine seems to do it just changing cable stations. If I turn the channel, time warner cable box, the tv kind of blinks out, I get a blank screen for a few seconds and then the channel appears. Each time I get a box come up in the top left corner saying '1920 / 1180 / 60i'. I can understand if I switch the channel from and HD to a non HD but this happens between HD to HD stations. I have the resolution set to 1920 by 1180. Isn't that the correct setting? The current picture mode that works best for me is Dynamic. What gives?

Ok, I see what is happening and was wondering if anyone can tell me how I can fix it. Some of the high def channels are broadcasting in 720p as opposed to 1080i. Every time I change the channel from one to the other, 720p to 1080i or vice versa, the tv blinks and goes blank for a few seconds, then returns with the display for whatever the resolution is for that particular channel. This is driving me nuts. Is there some config I need to adjust? I have a Panasonic plasma in the other room with the exact same cable box connected and this does not happen.

Set the cable box to one , and only one output, eg 1080i. It will upscale all 720 p and your problem will be fixed. Its a common problem caused by the cable box/ STB. not the TV.
