Looking for input about viewing angle from a 46" 6100 owner. Reviews (including some opinions here) have me believing off center viewing is very poor. If I were to get this set it would be a second tv in a bright room with three seats, 10' back from the screen. One is dead center, the other two are 4' from center to the left and right. Been to a store to watch from approximately those left and right spots and maybe it's my eyes but I don't see that much of a change in contrast. Perhaps it's the store lighting. Can a 6100 owner with a similar set up give me their opinion? Thanks
post #302 of 724
I have a 60 and while the viewing angle isn't great, 4' or so to each side at 10' away would only be noticeable if you were just sitting at the center. Meaning you get used to it after a minute or 2.
I have a UN40ES6100, and I think the viewing angle is great. It's very bright well beyond 60 degrees. In fact, I frequently watch from an angle of 45 degrees (weird room layout), and the room is very bright. The picture is fine.

10 feet out and 4 feet over is 22 degrees. You'll have no problems.
Keep In mind high backlight and contrast settings seem to reduce the viewing angle on some Samsungs.

Is there any way to disable the TV input in the Sources menu selection? Some users here try to switch it to the (unconnected) TV input instead of HDMI1 (the cable box).

Hi there all,

I have a UN40ES61000 for a couple of weeks now. At this moment I have 2 questions about the TV.

UPnP
I have a network drive (Lacie network space), connected to my router, together with my TV (hardwired). This network drive contains a media server (UPnP). My TV reconizes the Lacie network drive and shows it in the list of devices when I push the button. When I select the Lacie drive, AllShare starts up. From thet point thing are going very slow. Loading the folders takes about 10 seconds or more. Each time you go into a folder it takes again 10+ seconds. Once you are at the photo's you want to see you can press the button. The image is loaded and you use the button to see the next image.
However, after 2 or 3 photo's, the TV gives a error "Network connection lost". This happens all the time.

Do I have a problem with my network drive or does this TV not support UPnP that well. In other words, does anyone has a NAS where this is working fine with?

Naming of the source list
The source list shows for example "HDMI1 ....". On the dots, you can select a preset of name's. But none of the name's fit with my device. Is there a way to put an own name in this list? Even if I would call it AVSFORUM?

I purchased the UN40ES6100 a few weeks ago and so far I am very happy with it. I just have a few minor issues:

1. I currently have the TV set to Standard mode with Auto Motion Plus on Standard. Most of the time I don't have problems with blurring during motion, but occasionally there is some blurring if someone moves a hand quickly. It does seem that if I turn Auto Motion Plus off it takes care of the blur or at least significantly reduces it. For the most part it's no big deal, and I don't have any other problems such as bright spots or clouding on the screen. I've tried some of the other settings under Auto Motion Plus, but they don't seem to make much of a difference.

2. I tried to install the firmware version 1016.4 update on my TV via USB. The TV recognized the USB, but said there were no updates to install. The current version on my TV is 1016. I just bought my TV a few weeks ago and since the 1016.4 version is dated July 9th, I assumed it would accept the update.

3. Is there any way to turn on JavaScript in the web browser. I tried to watch a video from my church's website, but was unable to do so. I'm also not able to click on the links. When I contacted the IT department, they replied as follows: "We currently don’t support our website on any TV platform. By the sounds of your description it sounds like JavaScript is turned off in the browser you’re using on the TV. If you can, I would try to check the browser settings and see if it’s turned off." I don't seem to have a problem with any other websites.

4. I'm having an issue when trying to watch my one of my DVD's ("Tangled" movie) on my Bose 3-2-1. The movie previews on the DVD are fine, but when the feature comes on, it's as if it is advancing frame by frame. I tried adjusting the blur and judder settings under Auto Motion Plus, but nothing seemed to make a difference. The DVD plays fine on my other devices, and I haven't had any issue with any of my other DVDs.

I just got the Samsung VG-KBD1500 wireless keyboard for my Samsung UN40ES6100, but it doesn't seem compatible. I tried to "pair" the keyboard with the TV several times, but still can't get it to work. Has anyone else had this issue?
Tim, I think the problem is with your NAS or your network. I can stream 15 Mbps HD programs from my Win7 system (while my daughter plays Minecraft!) and the TV plays perfectly. The Win7 system is hardwired to the router, and the ES6100 uses WiFi.

Someone needs to create a FAQ for this unit. Just make a post and then come back and edit it as you get time.

I'm on the verge of buying this TV, and I'm afraid that I won't be able to resist making such a FAQ myself smile.gifLike I did for my previous TV. So I'm hoping someone already did and I just missed it.

Have the UN60ES6100. Not presently hooked up to home theater system but in the process. Getting Denon AVR-2112CI. I have 3 other Samsung TV's and none of them use the HDMI-ARC input. Why is that? If that is the case, do i need to hook up the TV to the receiver with toslink/optical cable and a separate HDMI cable or just optical alone? I have been out of the AV loop for a while so catching up on all the new technologies. Seems like most other TV's use HDMI-ARC.

is anyone else using this TV with an xbox360?
I'm noticing really bad jaggies in vertical lines. Have disabled all picture "enhancers" like auto motion etc.
On my previous TV the xbox was connected with VGA and the picture was a lot better and softer. Here it seems so hard, although sharpness etc are all turned down. I'm using the same calibration as posted before in this thread.

Games like NBA 2K12 even show a constant "moving" diagional line near the scorers table midcourt etc. Shadows are flickering during the pregame camera angles ...
Really weird.

It used to look alot better on my previous samsung LCD with VGA connection frown.gif

Oke thanks! I will try to use my laptop and see how that is doing.

Hey guys, I just purchased a UN55ES6100 the other day just wondering if anyone has the best calibration settings anywhere? Is there any software or anything we can put on a USB stick too to calibrate. When i bought it they were charging 199.99 to have a professional come in and calibrate but I passed on that as I figured there must be a way to do it myself hopefully. Thanks in advance guys!

I'm in the US. I checked "software updates" two days ago on the TV and it showed that an update was available. I opted to install it and it said it was version 1017.4. I checked the Samsung website and it showed that version 1017.4 dated August 16, 2012 was the latest update.

Does anyone know if the UN40ES6100 has bluetooth built-in? I called Samsung regarding the issue of my Samsung VG-KBD1500 wireless keyboard not pairing with my TV. They had me check if my cell phone picked up the TV when I scanned for bluetooth devices. They said if it didn't pick up the TV then the bluetooth adapter in the TV was not working and I would need to have it replaced. Well, my cell phone did not pick up the TV. I'm a little confused because I can't seem to find any info anywhere confirming that my TV model has bluetooth built-in. Plus, when I go into the e-manual on the TV it states that my TV model would only support a wireless keyboard using a USB and that bluetooth connectivity was only available for Model 6500 and higher.

Hearing nothing, I guess it's my job.

So, in this post I will build a FAQ for this TV. Over time I will gather info and edit it into this post. To link directly to this post, use the "post #" link in the upper right corner.

Some questions right off the bat, after my first night of setup:

Q: Recommended picture settings?
A: See most of this thread. People are constantly posting their settings. The one thing I will recommend here is that you immediately turn "Auto Motion Plus" OFF. This article explains why.

Q: How to do firmware upgrades?
A: Either connect the TV to your home network, or download the files to a USB thumb drive via the Samsung support site. Go to Menu -> Support -> Software Update to display the Current Version (e.g. "001016") and to initiate an update via network or USB. Note that the firmware software is approximately 150 MB in size and can take 20-30 minutes to download due to Samsung bottleneck; it could also take just 1 minute!

Q: What is the latest firmware version?
A: For the US, it's "001017", released 16-Aug-2012. For Europe, it's "001023". This is based only on posts to this forum, and corrections are welcome. No idea what it fixes.

Q: Is the manual PDF online somewhere?
A: Samsung's support page for this TV has a "User Manual" PDF, but it is NOT the same as the printed manual that comes with the TV, and is useless. If you're seeing a PDF with gigantic fonts and no images, that's the useless one. Where's the real manual?

Note that the TV has a built-in help system, accessed via Menu -> Support -> e-Manual.

Q: Any zoom limitations?
A: I'm particularly sensitive to being able to zoom various signals to larger displayed sizes, but also maintaining the original aspect ratio (hence the "OAR" in my profile to the left). The first couple generations of TVs would zoom some signals (e.g. HDMI input) but not others (e.g. from the tuner). In 2012, most TVs will zoom just about everything any way you want. I've found that this Samsung model zooms everything EXCEPT HD signals coming in on an HDMI port; it has more limited zoom options on those inputs and in particular will not offer the "Zoom1" zoom mode that stretches in both directions. I would normally use that to zoom postage-stamped video up on the display.

Q: How can I hook up a PC's VGA signal?
A: You can't. You need a VGA to HDMI converter, such as this $30 box from Monoprice.

Q: How do I display a signal strength indicator, for example while pointing my TV antenna?
A: Menu -> Support -> Self Diagnosis -> Signal Information . The "SNR" display is "signal to noise ratio" in dB or decibels, and higher means stronger/better signal. You need about 16 dB minimum for US ATSC (8VSB) signals. The display will stay up indefinitely, so you can go outside to aim the antenna while someone inside calls the results out to you.

Q: The TV audibly "chirps" when changing the volume. Is there a way to turn that off?
A: Ha, it's not in the sound section where you'd expect it. Go to Menu -> System -> General (scroll to bottom) -> Sound Feedback. Hooray, I was afraid at first that I'd have to live with that nuisance forever (or return the TV).

Answers posted in this thread will get edited into this post.

If quoting a particular question above for your reply, EDIT DOWN YOUR QUOTE to just the question you are answering. If you see this sentence in your reply, then you didn't heed the request in this paragraph smile.gif

sillypuppy, the UNxxES6100 does not have Bluetooth. You can try a USB wired or wireless/dongle keyboard.
So what are the best settings to use as there is several different settings posted in the thread? Anyones that everyone agrees are the best?
I just bought the 55ES6100 last week and found these settings: http://reviews.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/samsung-lcd-tv/samsung-es6100-picturesettings.html

I have been using these since the beginning of the week and really like the look so far out of all the different settings I have tried...
Thanks, Nyan Cat. Guess it wouldn't do any good for Samsung to come out and replace the bluetooth adapter in the TV if it doesn't even have one smile.gif. Would it be possible to get a USB bluetooth adapter, put that into a USB port in my TV, and then use my Samsung wireless keyboard that uses bluetooth connectivity?

Define "best". Different content, different viewing conditions, different tastes, etc. To each his own. That's why I didn't bother trying to pick one for the FAQ I'm building above. It's pointless smile.gif

One of the unanswered questions above was about the manual. If anyone has found the manual PDF, please let me know where. See above for an example of the PDF that I already know about that is NOT the right one.

Just purchased a Samsung UN50 ES6150 at Costco. I'd like to use Chrome as the browser, but wasn't successful downloading / installing it on this TV.

Any suggestions?

Hi
i just bought this TV after my LG plasma (which I loved) died. The store gave me a credit and I picked this TV due to the best color. So far Im happy but the lighting and darkening when the scenes change is really driving me nuts. I found a fix to go into the maintenance/service mode which will void the warranty. If I enter service mode, is it logged some how?? This would be the only setting I would be changing

thanks
