Official Samsung UNXXES6100 Thread - Page 23

so i bought this tv home last night and it has some clouding, after playing with settings i couldnt get it to go away very much. had backlight turned down to 9 and during scenes of dark knight rises it was distracting. i even found two stuck/dead pixels! the sad thing is i bought the ES6100 and a EH5000 to test and the EH had almost now clouding because of the backlit led but also had a stuck pixels. Did i just get super unlucky or are there some samsung quality issues now? ES had a TS01 panel and EH has TS02 panel. Will the ES just always have clouding? Should I just skip this tv for now?

Not sure if this is the whole "auto dimming" thing but when I'm in movie mode I noticed during the opening scene from The Avengers when the scene goes "black" the tv seems to look like it turns off? So the scene with go black and then you see a little "ghosting" then it's "black" like the tv is off but comes back "on" when the scene resumes?

Can someone please tell me what the best settings are on the 60" led. It's not used for gaming?

Right off the bat, I'm an idiot.

So I acquired a Samsung HW-E450 sound bar and some Sewell brackets to mount it to the TV with. While I was installing the brackets along with my wall mount bracket I ended up stripping one of the lower Vesa mount holes in the back of the TV. It's totally stripped, as in the bolt will slide in and out without any turning. I'm actually quite mechanically inclined and was not applying that much force when tightening so I was shocked at how delicate the threading on the mounting holes is.

Regardless, I now have a completely stripped mounting hole on the back of my TV. Fortunately, it's one of the lower holes but I would like to fix it if possible. Has anybody run into a similar situation? Any way around this? I'm assuming those mounting holes are attached to the internal frame in the TV somehow and probably cannot be replaced with ease. Anybody have any ideas?

hello

I'm glad that I found this forum. By the way I just bought a 55ES6100 at best buy few days ago and it was just last night that I was able to open the box and try it.

I'm quite disappointed with the picture quality it has right now. I really thought that It would give me that crystal clear, high definition quality that I usually see from their (best buy) display units.

This is my first time to have a LCD LED, coming from old boxy TVs)

I tried this setting that I found on the internet, http://reviews.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/samsung-lcd-tv/samsung-es6100-picturesettings.html, but unfortunately I still have that grainy picture quality.

By the way, I have this kind of problem while watching on cable (Shaw) I think.

Best Regards,

Bon

Hi. Welcome to the forum. My settings are similar to the link you posted. Mine looks great. I would suspect your cable may be the reason. It all depends on your provider and how they compress the signal. Have you tried Blu-rays yet? Mine look absolutely perfect. For example, Skyfall was stunning. Very vibrant colors, just the slightest bit of grain with deep blacks.

And there is your issue. I have SHAW cable (Gateway DVR) and their HD offerings are awful. Highly compressed, severe macro-blocking, clouding & halo's; just plain woeful.

I have the 55" version if this LED and Blu-Ray, along with MKV files show wonderfully on this screen. I initially used the same settings from the LCDTV site, but they just seemed a bit dull for me.

thanks for the quick feed back. So it must be the Cable provider is the real pain in the bum then. I actually tried watching HD trailer of Transformer on Youtube app on my TV and it was pretty good.

As I was browsing the net last night, I came across with a "receiver" that I have to hook between the cable and my TV? would this help with the issue that I have right now?

If you're taking the signal direct from the wall outlet to your TV, then you will be getting SD quality, which won't look terribly good. You will need to get yourself a HD receiver from Shaw, either the

Motorola HD PVR DCX3510-M
Motorola HD Box DCX3200-M
Arris Gateway

Without either of these 3 receivers, you won't get HD from Shaw.

With regards to Blu-ray, you're Panasonic DVD player won't play a blu-ray disc. Have to buy yourself a blu-ray player, or get yourself a PS3.

No, a DVD player cannot play Blu-Rays, only DVDs. I have 2 Panasonic Blu-Ray players, and love them. My newer one is wifi, which means you can download firmware updates automatically.

Thank you guys. I finally got a HDPVR 3510 from SHAW. it did eliminate the very odd pic quality I used to have. so right now I am doing a fine tuning and hopefully there is some more to offer this TV and the HD box I just had

Just an update on my Netflix issue. Wifi streaming wasn't working very well, or so I thought. The picture quality was mediocre through the TV. I attached an ethernet hard line, temporarily, to test and see if it helped. Some movies looked great, others still looked very soft. I needed a new Blu-ray player anyway, so I picked up a Panasonic DMP-BD87, which has NetFlix wifi built in. It works great and picture quality on everything I tested looks very good.

Weird thing is the Blu-ray player shows only 3 out of 5 bars for wifi signal strength, yet NetFlix plays great. So although maybe I should get a beefier router, obviously the 6100 isn't the greatest NetFlix player.

I just bought one of these sets (UN55ES6150F) this week and I'm noticing that as well. Netflix picture quality appears to be better when coming from the Xbox than through the built-in TV Netflix functionality. I also tried plugging in a hard line to make sure it wasn't related to wi-fi, and there was no difference. It's not really a big deal since I really only want my TV to be a dumb terminal anyway and I don't mind using the Xbox for Netflix. I just find it strange that the quality would suffer this way. It doesn't make much sense to me.

Additional note: I also tried it with Amazon Prime Instant Video and got the same results. For consistency of comparison, I used the same picture quality settings in both samples (the LCD TV Buying Guide settings referenced earlier in this thread).

My wireless keyboard for all 2012 models will not pair either. Did you get a fix?
Since a short year I'm using the samsung 46es6100 with CI+ module..
I've got a small problem after the last update 1.032..
The image in the TV shows a little artefact after 9 á 10 minutes, which is (very) noticable during sportscenes.. And I only think during programs and not during commercial breaks..
These artefacts are there for 1 sec only one the figure who's moving.. Seems the television can''t control the image and has to refresh or something..

The second weird thing is the workaround as a kind of solution..
When I use the external HD and record the program I've none issues..

Do someone know what's wrong here or has the same issue? (problem with firmware?)

Image: natural or standard with all picture improvements off..

I've got another TV hooked to a STB and has not given that sort of issues..

ps. also no problems when watching movies with allshare..

I can tell you 1st hand...as I own the 40 version. About 8 months ago we experience a power surge. The screen had a sorta green tinge, then it cleared up. Ever since then, every time I went to connect to Netflix, it would take perhaps 5-6 tries before it would take. Then, I noticed after every firmware update, (maybe a span of 3 total) I couldn't automatically log into Netflix, meaning each and every stinking time I'm had to put in my name and password. I also noticed that at the bottom of smart hub, I used to be logged in all the time there as well. I realized that when I entered my name and password there, and ck'd the box to remember, that as soon as I turned off the set, it would not automatically log on.

Ok heres the deal with firmware updates. Since we have a year complete warranty, Samsung...after me bitching and complaining for nearly 3 months sent out a repair company. They told me...."DO NOT UPDATE THE FIRMWARE". They said they had seen firmware updates ruin the main chip on the main board, to where there was no fix other than replacing the motherboard, which they did. It is now working like brand new, with the firmware being about 1 year old. They said there is no reason to update the firmware.

I also (after the repair) called Samsung to update my file. I asked that they retrieve my old motherboard, which is "usually" their policy and per my complaints...(netflix not automatically connecting, smarthub not remembing my name/password and auto connecting, the number of times in which Netflix takes to connect to a show and a grinding/buzz intermitent sound now and again in the set) and disect into the board to figure out what the hell had happed. I also told them what the repair company had told me about the firmware issue. Samsung agreed, that updates should not ruin the hardware. I mean good grief, there are even warnings stating, "take this upate may void your warranty". Why the HELL would they even allow this?

Anyway, this was my experience. I suggest you get a very good voltage/surge suppresion system, including the antenna, and NOT take anymore firmware updates. Just because they are there and available, does not mean it will make your tv work and better.

Please share this info along with other...

I know the UNxxES6100 has a slightly different contrast ratio than the UNxxES6150. I have not seen the two of them side by side, not that I'd be able to see the difference, especially in a store. But what makes them different? Is it the panel or does the 6150 have a more matte screen which may affect this?

I noticed that both models are on Samsung's website but I thought the 6150 was newer, even though introduced in 2012..

I guess I should ask what the 2013 model line up is. I saw several articles regarding CES 2013 & Samsung and all they mentioned was the 4K and OLED TVs & maybe 1 or 2 more. But nothing about the more affordable models. I thought about getting a UN50ES6100 from Costco. Is it still considered a 2013 model?

I just joined the forum to ask you guys for your help.

I unfortunately committed a sin and entered the service menu and accidentally changed the panel type.

I bought this set less then a week ago and the auto dimming was pissing me off and after looking online for the solution I was told to go in the sm. I entered the sm and did not change anything at first and looked for the elusive ce dimming but could not find it. Afterwards I resolved myself to instead go into the advance and see if it was there. Once there I was stopped cause I could not change anything.

This is where a sane person would stop but unfortunately I didn't. I poked around( clicked options) and found panel type and clicked on it. Then by accident I tried to return but changed its type in the process.

I immediately panicked and changed it back to what I thought it was and the whole screen colours came out distorted. I panicked and tried a different number and It restored the colours to normal.

I contacted SAMSUNG over the phone the csr said that it should be fine with a factory reset he had no idea what the original panel type was. I hung up thinking it was over. After the reset I went to re-calibrate my set and could not enter movie mode anymore. The screen would freeze and just screw up.

I called Samsung again, needless to say it wasn't very helpful and it ended with him saying to either take it back to the store or that for no charge they would send a tech over and fix it. I asked for the tech guy number and said I would think about it. Since my options were to return the set and get a new one or undo my issue. I called the tech guys number to see what he could do for me and it came back out of service. Both csr assured me going into the sm did not void my warranty.

I looked online and found a thread ( on this website maybe) that explained the panel code. I attempt a few ones and eventually found one that allows me to have the proper colours and access all my features but I don't know what my actual default panel type is. I think I fixed it but how can I tell what the panel type is suppose to be?

Is it on the box? the sticker? anything short of opening the tv is there a way I can find out?

model type" 55unes6100f , manufacture in November 2012.

the one that I have set in the sm right now is 55r1Af6E ( panel type)

Please guys I just need to undo my mistake.

tl,dr: I an idiot who can't have nice things.
You shouldn;t have gone into the service mode to fix the auto dimming. There was a post here a while back explaining how to fix it by just changing a few things in the normal menu. I did, and it works great now.

So if I update with the new firmware will all of my picture settings go away? What does the latest firmware do?
Your settings shouldn't change. Mine didn't after the last firmware update.
So what does the latest firmware even do?
Hi all...

Complete newbie here.

Thinking about getting the UN60ES6100, but have a simple question.

With it, can I completely get rid of my Roku? (In reality, move it to another room).

Thanx in advance!
Jaronoff: Not completely. Roku may have apps Samsung does not. Also, I've enjoyed watching Netflix via Apple TV vs Samsung App; the picture quality is better than that offered from the Tv. IMO, I'd use both depending on what you are watching or using it for.
Drmjc: newest firmware, I noticed better overall AMP processing, especially with 1080p@24hz and 60hz.
