Cheap butter dispenser

I know this has been talked about from several to a few years back. What are really frugal people using besides the Paragon "ProStyle Warmer with Pump" for popcorn butter? I'll probably go with a squeeze bottle.

1. Presto hot topper (discontinued but still being sold on eBay.

2. Baby bottle warmer with baby bottle


3. Squeeze bottle


4. Paragon ProStyle Warmer with Pump (too much for my frugal butt)

Hey PC,

I still use squeeze bottles zapped in the microwave. Quick, cheap, low maintenance and does the job.

Thx for the response!
I told my sister that I plan on buying butter topping for the next movie party and her reponse was "great!". I guess she didn't know that you could buy butter just like the movie theater.

It always puts a smile on my face when my guests mention that the popcorn tastes just like the theater's. And movie nights with friends or family are always a lot of fun.

What brand of butter topping do you use?
This may sound crazy but where did you purchase your squeeze bottle?
What size is the tip of the bottle?

I have a couple that I use.

One is the popular oil based toppiing that most theaters use today.

Odells Superkist II

The other is from the days when theaters used real butter topping. It's more of a nostalgic experience, but today's tastes have been programmed to enjoy the oil topping. The Kids grab the oil and the Old folks will grab the real deal when they're getting their popcorn.

As far as squeeze bottles, I use the condiment size (12-16oz) and I think I picked them up at one of the local stores. They look very similar to the photo you posted.

You guys don't mind if I throw out a recommendation for the Hot Topper do you..LOL I still use mine about 8 yrs later and works great although the prices for them now seem to have really went up.

Oh for topping, the favorite of choice is still Lou Ana's buttery topping.Although most times just eat the Megapop as is .

Thx Brickie. I'm temped to get the Lou Ann's but a gallon of topping would probably last 10 years. I wish the Lou Ann's came in a 10oz or 16oz container.

Hey, Brickie sighting! yay!

I've never found a satisfactory container for warming butter in the microwave. Plastic is always a bit of a gamble in the microwave so I usually just use a glass measuring cup. I used to have an old Hot Topper plug in but gave it away 20 years ago...

Hey, I've tried just about every butter topping. Favorite is still Odell's real butter topping but it's too small, and I use mild flavored olive oil for it's superb consistency and healthy quality. Well I just tried the tiny 4oz sample bottle of Wabash Valley Farms buttery topping on another members recommendation and I was literally blown away. Rich buttery consistency, EXCELLENT taste, very much like theater topping, not quite like real butter (but few theaters around me use butter anymore) and just delicious!

It's outstanding! I'm ordering the gallon size and I think my search for the perfect movie butter is over at last! (ten years later)...

Yeah, the whole plastic microwave factor is why I went with an electric Hot topper. Also liked the idea of not running up and down the stairs to warm topping when it cooled off.

As for the Wabash Valley topping, never tried it..Have to admit I'm a bit out of the loop. I really haven't used topping in a LONG time.Actually really only use topping when we feel the need to go to a commercial theater.I just set it out in case guests want some. Go figure that one out.

As you get older you start to take your health really seriously! I still LOVEEEEE popcorn,but it's much more an occasional weekend type treat.Thing is I just refuse to try to make it healthier "oil wise",so I just don't eat as much as i use to. No more eating it for breakfast! LOL

PcDoc, it's actually funny you mentioned the 10 yr comment. I have a gallon jug of lou Ana's and it has lasted me exactly about that amount of time!!!! Wonder if anyomne should be consuming it..Looks okay..

Speaking of 10 years, do you remember the thread I created about buying boxed candy for guests? My Granny said to not buy candy for the guests and you called her cheap. The comments from that thread cracked me up! I wish I would have kept a of it.

Not on hiatus just not posting as much.
It doesn't seem the same around the "Accessories" forum anymore without you and a few other folks.
I remember people used to talk about making popcorn carts, dvd intros, etc.
I used to love seeing the diy folks posting stuff they made.

I use Megapop popcorn (Gold Medal). I'll probably get a much smaller version of salt. I don't have that many functions for the 32oz size. I do use Gold Medal's carmel glaze stuff to make my popcorn taste like cracker jack.

Pcdoc, glad to hear that a few others and myself were missed!

I was gonna say that's alot of flavacol to use if you're especially using Megapop. Actually we were just at their location about a month ago picking up a case of popcorn.I too have that very same 32 oz pack thinking we would need too add some to the pre-paks and it just didn't happen. The pre-paks are great as is. Unless you're making popcorn using the bulk method it will take forever to go thru all that flavacol.

And still haven't tried the glaze yet. Whenever i think about it,the cleanup factor pops up in my head.

I probably won't buy any flavocal.
Since I don't think I'd use a gallon in three years, I'll probably get the Ordell's 10oz tub. I feel like a gallon is too much for me. I just wish they had the Lou Ann's in a 10oz or 16oz container. Maybe I could split a gallon with my Dad but I guess I'd have to find another container to keep the other in.

I have a case of this stuff. Every time I make it, it tastes slightly burned. Maybe I'm not using enough oil?

Too bad my Megapop doesn't have buttered flavored salt.

My guest love the carmel stuff.
I pour in the oil let it get hot, then the salt and then the carmel stuff. (I think that's what I do). Look on the front of the carmel package, it says how to prepare the corn when using the carmel. It says you are not supposed to use salt but since my popcorn and salt is together, I can't separate it. This is what I'm using. My Dad gave me a ton of 12oz packs and my popper is 4ozs. I have to put his packs in half.

My popcorn pack looks like this but it has "Megapop" on it. The salt in at the bottom of the popcorn pouch.

Thanks (or maybe not!) for this thread. Based on your research, I bought one of the Presto Hot Toppers and have had it for a week now. I have had the Louan's Butter Topping purchased but hadn't tried it out before this week as I didn't have a good way to heat it and apply it. The Presto Hot Topper works perfectly in this regard.

The addition of the butter flavor topping really makes the popcorn have that genuine movie theater flavor. It tasted so good that I have eaten a big batch of buttery oily popcorn 4 out of the past 5 nights.

Yesterday I noticed that I have picked up a slight flutter that seems to be coming from somewhere to the left of my stomach Are there any important internal organs in that area? I may need to slow down on the popcorn consumption. I think when I go into my next doctors visit he will say that my arteries now look like gummi worms.

Took my own advice and bought a case. Made a batch on the stove top in a dutch oven that was perfect for the job. Absolutely the real thing in movie theater popcorn. The stuff is even good when its cold! This stuff is the real deal. Look no further. Does not take anything special to make and plenty for everyone!!!

Flutter? Hmm, sounds crazy. Yes, you better ask the doc. I don't know what could be fluttering on the left side of your stomach.

Flutter...Yeah that's bad.That(health) is why I had to dial back my popcorn eating!!! Those Hot Toppers are awesome though!!
